I'd have to agree. Only dog I've ever been bitten by and met some shockers, also loved my boyfriends mothers cattle x dingo dearly. I watched a 12 week old cattle pup race over and stand over Gus who lay down to play and promptly rolled over when pup got growly and got chased off by the pup while the young female owner giggled and said 'your dog is so soft!' the other day and I really shuddered. She's in for some real trouble I suspect. I try not to be too prejudice but I certainly don't go out of my way to correct my assumptions, which I probably should work on. There's good and bad, logically I know this. Haha.

What I meant was even the (real) news and papers are heading the same way. I certainly have never watched that drivel. Yuck!

I don't agree 100%. We loved ours! We're not total novices but it was handy to have everyone in the same boat, the dogs got a play and owners got advice specific to them and we all got to have a chat and have a laugh. We did learn some skills and new approaches and any problems that cropped up IE leash chewing and toilet training were advised by the instructor, who was a vet nurse. I attribute a lot of our fabulous dog to the early socialisation and introduction to new people, dogs and places. The vet nurses even bought their older, calmer dogs in one day too and did some demos and let the pups meet some older dogs. Of course this can all be done in house, it certainly isn't essential but we really loved ours. I guess we got lucky in finding one we loved and it lived up to that. Certainly wouldn't have bothered if they'd all been rubbish in our area.

I'm pretty over the media and it's so obvious 'flavour of the week' where they dredge and dramatise any story related to their chosen topid. Anyone in Melb knows it's bikies this week, next might be dog attacks again. I expect more from my media than Today Tonight and am continually saddened. Sigh.

Jesus. Some of your vets rule! The local one here is lovely, she's really nice and talks frankly but she's medically pretty useless IMO. 2 x $70+ appts for a mucky eye. First one was told 'he's too lively to handle' as he was licky and happy, wash it with salt water and come back if it doesn't fix up in a week. Second time I took him for an hour run before so he was less wound up, she gave me a $20 misc cream. I asked what the cream did and what she thought it was and she said 'could be anything really' and wouldn't put dye in it to check for abrasions, though she mentioned it both times, because 'it would just end up everywhere' We don't go there any more, as lovely as she was she just gambled things and ignored my concerns. I know Gus can be a PITA being a big happy puppy but I imagine it could be waaaaay worse! Turned out to be a major pain in the bum to get rid of the infection after all that as it had run rampant. I almost wanted to call in and express my sadness at the service but never did. I just let her keep sending me vacc reminders...

Getting Two Puppies To Keep Each Other Company...
Steph M replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gus and Rosie are very happy as a unit, I'd say as much. They do keep each other happy and busy and it must make a long day more fun and bearable. I always planned to get a second, however I don't judge anyone who chooses to have one, 3 or 5. As long as you can cope and your dogs are happy, power to you! -

We have two 6 month olds (luck not planning!) had one since 8 weeks and the other a recent addition. So far so good! We do walk and train them separately though. Definitely partners in crime though! -
Have you contacted Dogs NSW? Not sure if that would help but it certainly can not hurt. I'm an FC person too. You are in for so much fun when this all gets sorted!

bet the pug was HEARTBROKEN!

Rosie is a bowerbird too. I find bras and shoes and socks and letters everywhere, god does she love letters! She will do it in front of you but try to be sneaky. The only success we've had so far is baby gating off one half of the house. Haha. I just try give her minimal things to steal and lots she can. Seems to be the best thing so far is just preventing access to things. Not always an option, I know. Cardboard boxes are amazing! Coke bottles too loud for her, but we're working on 'give' with her too. Gus has a really good 'give', even if that's dropping it and running off to get in more trouble...haha. I feel your pain, we have two teenagers now! With the recall might it be worth treating her every time she comes to you inside from a close distance and giving her a cue and working up to outside and a bigger distance? Start with baby steps but if she learns every time she comes to you she gets a treat or a click or praise and a cuddle perhaps that'll override the thrill of being a monkey over time.

I saw in another thread she was proclaimed to be a good rabbiter, probably because she was bloody starving. Disgusting! -
Looks like a deadset snugglepuss to me!

Relaxed is his default state, that or zoomies or hungry. Haha.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Steph M replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
I posted this in the photos thread but thought I might share it here too, just for a laugh. We were having a lovely lazy morning yesterday and I hopped up to make some cups of tea and came back to this… I suspect somehow that the critters were not the instigators here. Something tells me… (Brooke knows I posted this, btw. And aside from threats to embarrass me just as badly, doesn’t mind. Haha) And a big highfive to a few friends on facebook who sent me messages saying ‘WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A WHIPPET X AND CATS? THEY WILL GET KILLED!’ So far she shows no interest in them really, they’re just part of the furniture, albeit a sharp part if you get too close… -
I have a suspicion the critters aren't the guilty party/parties here. None of them got a cup of tea either, serves them all right!

I went to make a cup of tea on Sunday morning and came back to this. I guess I'll just leave them to it...

Strangers Dog Went For My Face This Morning
Steph M replied to jess5's topic in General Dog Discussion
It was definitely not your fault, whether you leant over the dog or not. If he knows his dog is unpredictable then he shouldn't be letting strangers have any interactions with the dog, particularly unmuzzled. What if you were a child or an older person with thinner skin? I feel you certainly should. Next time it could be a kid or the owner could be distracted and real damage done. He needs to have a muzzle on it full time for everyone's sake. -
I wondered the same thing, interesting show. I thought she might wake up married to the son though! Haha.
-
I would agree with him. Mmmmm!
-
Good point, I omitted that part.

Usually what you get when you pick a good breeder, I believe? Certainly doubt any realistic breeder wouldn't want to know about something so big and do what they can.
-
Definitely true, but at least if it comes down to the too hard basket hopefully it's a temp situation. It certainly isn't ideal but an intense baptism by fire I guess. I hope she'll just wake up and realise that it's a huge undertaking and her whole life would need an overhaul. Personally I wish she'd got rid of the boyfriend and kept his dog but that's a whole other story. Haha.
-
We've been friends a long long time, and she does ask a lot of questions so perhaps I'll get lucky and if I drag her along by force then she can't say 'yeah yeah, will do' Haha. Hopefully!

I'd love one in Vic too. One day I'll find one! I curse masterchef for making it an 'in' ingredient! Haha.
