Thanks everyone, and thanks for the PMs. not up to replying He went downhill over night. I called the vets at 1 saying he collapsed on me but was up and ok, i checked him out and he seemed ok. had a drink, went to the toilet and was ok. Vet was happy with him staying with me I checked on him at 3 and he was fast asleep, nice normal sleep. 7:30 this morning i went to get him up to take to the vets on my way to work. He couldnt stand, his eyes were glazed over, breathing really deep and snow white gums We loaded him in the car and i flew over there, had him in my car while wating for the vets to show up. 10 mins before the doors open i was out the front waiting, then he stopped breathing on me. I half picked him up and dropped him and shook him and he took another breath. Slammed on the locked door till they opened it. His heart had stopped by the time he was on the table, they put a tube in and tried to get his heart going but nothing. They offered to keep going after a while but I told them to stop. I had all the vet nurses and vets in there with me who had treated him for his whole life, Dad was with me (had to do a job and popped in to see if iwas ok, he also didnt think this was going to happen) I wish i took him in earlier. my OH is beating himself up because he didnt come to the vets with me, but i honestly didnt think it would end like this... Pets at Peace have him now. I will contact them and arrange what i want done so i can get him home ASAP.

  4. Vet nurse here now, she is letting us in once she has sorted things and calling vet to hurry up
  5. I'm sitting out the front of the vets with Atlas. No colour to his gums, eyes glazed over and unable to walk and breathing really deeply. 3 hours ago he was a bit unstable but otherwise looked ok.
  6. Oh hun. I wish I was closer, I would take you to him or go and sit with him myself I'm not in a good place for advice, but let me know if you need to talk.
  7. Not happy at all *on my phone and can't edit
  8. Just went and saw him, bit happy at all I only got one tail wag the whole time I was there. He had just chewed his drip out, so at least he is doing one normal thing
  9. Just got off the phone to vets. He Is a little better but still very sick. Another 24 hours on steroids then we work out what we do next. Going in at 11 to see him and talk to the vet again, I'm at work so it was a bit hard to chat.

  11. Thanks. My vets do a lot of transfusions. They have a list of dogs to call when needed. (I offered my guys but they didn't weigh enough) Think the biggest worry Is that he has two things going on at once. I'm heading to bed now. Kaos knows something Is wrong and hasn't left my side. I'm smuggling her into bed while OH is at work and going to try to get some sleep Will pop into check on this tomorrow and will update when I know more Thanks everyone
  12. Thanks Do you know how their dogs were treated? And how old they were? Specialist vet may be out. I will talk to my vet tomorrow, but I'm 3 hours from Sydney and have no idea where the closest would be. I trust my vet. If this is over his head he will say so.
  13. i just went and read some of the old threads. Think i am more worried now. I have a list of questions to ask the vet tomorrow. I wont let him suffer
  14. thanks SSM Steroids were started tonight, the vets have the web cam set up on him and honestly, he is in better care there. I am sick at the moment and spending most nights in the bathroom being sick, if he went down hill i might miss it or be unable to get him into the car if he has to go anywhere. I feel so guilty, he was sick on tuesday but he normally gets over these things, so i left him to see how he was going Wish i just took him into the vets then. They said that depending on how he goes tonight, he may be hit with chemo tomorrow to see if that can help. Its also making it much harder on his kidneys.
  15. In first stages of kidney failure It can be handled ok normally. He has immune medicated hemolytic anemia White blood cells are attacking his red cells. Vet said it can be caused by things like eating onions but he has never had access to them Really need good thoughts, vet is very worried about him
  16. I'm on my phone and can't find my other thread. I have Atlas at the vets, vet thinks he is at the start of kidney failure. He said there is a slight chance of it being something else, but us doubtful. Really need good thoughts I should find out results of the blood tests by tonight Edited to change name of thread... turns out it is something else
  17. How sad... they only kill knees. atlas did break mums arm and almost snapped her hip... He stopped walking in front of her and she kept going, then he had lots of fun trying to play while she was on the ground in pain
  18. Lock Jaw and that both my dogs are those dangerous dogs that kill people *sigh*
  19. I think she is referring to the ABC programme, 7.30 Report tonight. Thankyou! :) I guessed those bits, but what is it about? Is there something in a subheading I'm not seeing on my iPhone? yes! it was pissing me off so i got on the computer it is: Pig dogging
  20. After what I have seen, I will never let a dog do it. Maybe it won't turn into something more... But I'm not taking the chance
  21. I hate it and dont see the funny side of it. I held a 6 month old bull terrier puppy in my arms while he was PTS because he was a spinner. The owners did all they could, after 4 solid days of spinning, and trying to spin while sedated and wearing the pads off all his feet they made the choise to PTS. It was one of the most heartbreaking things i have ever had to do. Hold a wonderful healthy puppy and see him leave this world. Warning, story in the link is very very sad http://www.btneuro.org/?page_id=39
  22. http://www.centralwesterndaily.com.au/news/local/news/general/putting-a-leash-on-bad-dog-owners/2592384.aspx Putting a leash on bad dog owners By LUKE SCHUYLER Sat, Jun 16 2012 LUCKY DOG: Chair of the Companion Animals Taskforce Andrew Cornwell, Member for Orange Andrew Gee and Summer Street vet Kimberley Rickard-Bell get to know Woody. Photo JUDE KEOGH 0615animals 4 STRICTER dog laws will come into force in NSW later this year, according to Companion Animals Taskforce chair Andrew Cornwell. He said 20 dog attacks in Orange last year was far too high and the taskforce would look at options to reduce the number. "Any dog attack is one dog attack too many," he said. "We're working on dangerous dog laws over the next few months. "We'll come up with more recommendations we think will help bring down this number. They may include things like microchipping, breeding regulations or tougher registration and pet ownership laws. "Something has to be done." Mr Cornwell said education was the key to better results. "The most important thing is education, unquestionably. We want to make it easier to be a responsible dog owner and that will cut these attacks down," he said. "The vast majority of people are great pet owners. Unfortunately, some people don't do the right thing by their pets and by the community. These are the people we want to target and help educate." Mr Cornwell was in Orange yesterday to discuss the NSW government's Companion Animals Taskforce discussion paper. The hot topic was the number of animals euthanased in the central west and what could be done to restrict this growing number. On average, more than 4000 animals are impounded in the central west each year, and less than 10 per cent are identified. Nearly 70 per cent are euthanased. "Each year there are 20,000 dogs and 30,000 cats euthanased in Australia," Mr Cornwell said. "That number is far too high. We want to substantially drive down those rates because they're unacceptable." He said it was vital the Orange community had their say. People can view the discussion paper from the Division of Local Government website www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/cataskforce. "People's attitude towards their pets has improved a lot in the past 20 years, but we still have a way to go," Mr Cornwell said. "We want people's feedback, Australia has the highest number of pet ownership in the world and all submissions will be looked at." Submissions close on July 1, 2012.
