  1. Another problem is that the people who have no experience other than being a dog owner are taking on these dogs but when attacks or other incidents happen they need to call the council and the police, not PR. Dogs that attack need to be dealt with by the authorities - ie taken away. Then the authorities can contact PR and tell them that the dog now needs to be monitored, locked up and kept in an enclosure with very specific requirements. This is what happened to my neighbour, not a PR dog but an aggressive bull breed that got out and attacked several people and their dogs over the days it was loose. Needless to say they didn't have the ability to comply so the dog was pts. At least it is now safe to walk around again.
  2. Jill, i think we'd all sleep better at night if we knew that PR only took dogs with good temperament, got to know them over a period of a few weeks during which time all vet work would be done and then matched them carefully into homes that were fully vetted. It's def. not only about the collection of money for dogs they don't take. For me the issue of putting dangerous dogs back out into the community and into the hands of people with NFI is of far greater concern.
  3. She should have been desexed at the outset - it's no good having this type of dog undesexed I'm afraid. Is the Chow Chow desexed or undesexed?
  4. I don't think that is what we are saying. They are soliciting for money for dogs they aren't rescuing. The proof of that is that they don't forward the money to the rescue group who has taken the dog. That's not their aim. Collecting the money is. If they wanted the money to go to the rescue group who have taken the dog then why don't they ask their followers to send the money direct to the group concerned? I wouldn't want their money, ever. It is tainted.
  5. Leopards don't change their spots Jill, I'm sorry to say. They will be busy reading this - I can smell them from here, they stink. Part of their belief is that it is easy to rescue small dogs, anyone can do that. They are something special because they take the dogs noone else will - the human and dog aggressive large dogs. Perhaps they also take large dogs that are sick? Take a dog like that and you need to be very, very careful, you need to get vet treatment for sick dogs and sometimes it's not a quick fix which wouldn't suit their way of operating as the dog has to be sent or shoved somewhere quickly so they can cope with the next euth list dogs. Instead, for them and their dumb supporters, they all pat themselves on the back because the dog hasn't had the green dream. No, instead it has gone somewhere interstate or is sitting in a kennel. It is an accident waiting to happen in many cases.
  6. ... except the fact that the majority of rescues I know of can't agree on a common set of policies or procedures... *grin* T. Not only that T but I believe some rescues are "in bed" with them ... no amount of money or promises would induce me or the ethical rescuers I know to profit from such an organisation
  7. Only lowlifes use intimidation and abuse tactics to get what they want, it speaks volumes about the type of people that are involved in running or support this organisation doesn't it?
  8. HP does not currently desex before release. As transport goes from that area I doubt that the dogs go via a vet first.
  9. Nope. They placed an unknown dog into a home with a cat not so long ago all the way down to VIC. Thankfully I tracked down the new owner and she has an idea of how Greyhounds can be and has taken steps very carefully with her cat (and appears to be cat safe). Shear luck IMO. OMFG. How long has it taken for Greyhounds to become more accepted and popular - it's taken years for this wonderful breed to be more successful, thanks to all the efforts of people like GAPVIC and GAP NSW and other Greyhound rescues and now PR come along and turn it all to shite potentially? But why wouldn't they when they are prepared to take dangerous dogs and turn them loose amongst the unsuspecting public?
  10. Hi everyone - i thought i'd post here because this has recently been done in the rescue forum for other pounds so we're probably all out of reserves. There is a pound in NSW nr Wagga that currently has large, medium and small dogs with temps down to -4 at night. The dogs are frozen. There are no coats and they don't have bedding although they are off the concrete floor, there is little protection from the elements. If anyone is interested in contributing any old coats or blankets they no longer want or need, I will add an address once I have spoken to the pound tomorrow and find out where to send it. All help will be appreciated by the dogs. There is a thread in the Urgent Rescue section with pics of the current dogs there in case anyone is interested in looking - there are 5 very nice natured small dogs there at the moment - 2 young Foxy & JRT cross males and 3 older Malt types in urgent need of tlc from a home of an elderly person who passed away.
  11. What a gorgeous dog, so much love and soul ... glad he is now loved and valued.
  12. Thanks SM, one didn't get back to me and I forwarded the other to a breeder - she needed a very specific dog to suit her requirements which would be challenging for some dogs.
  13. We are very happy to help you rehome her rather than shift her again, they are very sensitive dogs and she sounds like she's settling in with you well. I'm happy to put her on our website but would like to chat to you when she's a bit better. We have rehomed a no. of Iggies to QLD and have a couple of homes waiting at the moment there.
  14. We take crosses two, if we have room and her behaviour that you describe is quite typical of an IG in that situation - it's why the RSPCA euth them and pounds as well. A sweeter dog you couldn't find but when they are scared, they act like that and people who don't know the breed naturally become worried and think they'll be bitten. It's really unfortunate, in an ideal world they'd never end up in that scenario but sadly we are seeing more and more of it.
  15. She is gorgeous, how old do we think Honey is? Also, if you see any more in QLD pounds, or if anyone does, please contact us, we are NSW based but rescue from interstate all the time.
  16. Try asking some pertinent questions on PR's Facebook page. You will soon find yourself deleted and unable to contribute further lest you unsettle the vulnerable, stopping them from sending money or taking on a dog from another state with no knowledge of what they are getting themselves into.
  17. You have no idea who I am and what I do then. I have been rescuing for 8 years. I was expecting a Perth rescue group to contact me - I didn't get off the last bloody banana boat so I'll thank you to take your attitude somewhere else. If you want to discuss what I've been doing for the last 8 yrs and how i operate, let me know by pm. I have used Google photos in the past but in this case in particular - not that it is any of your business - it won't do. And I ask you again - do YOU know the address of this potential home, which suburb they live in even? No, because i didn't post that as you incorectly stated.
  18. No shortage of dogs, there's even a Weimeraner rescue. Unless showing, desex for sure, life will be much easier.
  19. They look gorgeous, I love their colouring! Well done, it's so lovely to see the dogs happy and well.
  20. Are they putting the dog outside when they are out? That would be part of the issue of the dogs are inside dogs and then get put outside.
  21. I presume you mean my thread? As an experienced rescuer, there's far more to doing a homecheck than simply looking at Google earth but I won't bore you with the finer points. And I won't be publishing anyone's details so they become identifiable in a public forum. I have concerns about my privacy, why wouldn't I extend that to other people? If it is my thread you are talking about - which suburb in Perth is it? What's the address? No, you don't know because I haven't put that there nor will I.
  22. Judy in NSW is Rough Collie Rescue - she might be like me (Italian Greyhound Rescue) with people waiting all over the country. If there is a local Rough Collier breeder chances are this is there dog, if not they may have a waiting list for a more mature dog - not everyone wants a puppy!
  23. Breeding can be a costly business. What if the dog ever needs a caesarean or other treatment? I dread to think. This is a highly irresponsible thing to do if you can't afford it although i'm sure she was looking forward to the money at the other end of the process - selling the puppies. I hope she can afford to now get this poor dog desexed. And Romana, I'm not a "nasty" - I'm a rescuer who believes in responsible handling of dogs whenever they need medical help. There are way too many out there breeding for profit - it's the animals that suffer. We also euthanase 150,000 dogs every year, no need for people to make more unless they know what they are doing and have the animal's health as their paramount concern.
  24. I believe so. As I said before, it will be the dogs (and cats) that suffer thanks to PR's modus operandii. It may not be obvious right now but it will come.
