  1. I take my Cavalier to see Pam,at Gladesville, for acupuncture on her HD and yes they are very good. Rosalie is the wife of my regular vets-small world. Lani developed a sensitivity to chicken, she now has turkey necks, lamb necks, veges and Royal Canin Hypoallergenic dry food and is doing well. When she has fish, I usually cook white fish, not sardines. Her problem was more related to the bowel but everything is going well at the moment-paws crossed ;)
  2. I have used RC Hypoallergenic and found it to be ideal for my Cavalier. You will find it more expensive but i don't use as much because it appears to be " denser", so it works out OK in the long run. I also supplement with veges, sardines and bones Edited because I can't put a sentence together!
  3. Goldielover, My cav has had the same sort of bowel symptoms, and i tried the chicken and rice but i found it was making it worse. Some dogs do have a sensitivity to chicken and rice. i am now trying her on a single source of protein which she hadn't had before, lamb, and it appears to be settling down.
  4. I bought some from Pets"R" Fun at Hornsby, at the beginning of this week
  5. I have a cavalier with HD and she is only 2.The only reason I found out she had it was I thought she had a sore back and xrays were taken. Her hips are pretty bad but she is managing well now.I too thought it was the end of her enjoyment of life but I was wrong. I took her to a pyhsio and we now do exercises every day, she has acupuncture and is on every supplement possible. Also a series of Cartrophen injections as arthritis was present. She has to be kept lean, which is the biggest issue, especially with a cavalier Looking back, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, although she always wanted to go for a walk she tired easily, and she had the wobbly hip walk, and she also has a bunny hop when she runs. But if i hadn't had the x rays taken I probably would never have known until it was too late to do anything about it
  6. Jed, if you are really interested in Cavaliers teeth.....Lani is 2 and the only thing I can thank the breeder for, is that she started her early on chicken necks. She now eats chicken carcasses, lamb shanks(cut in half lengthwise), lamb neck and forequarters, beef brisket bones. The tougher the better Her teeth are sparkling white. Hope she has all her teeth when she is 8
  7. My Cavalier also has HD.She is given human glucosamine/chondroitin tablets, sardines, and has acupuncture, which is working really well. I have just received my Flexicose, from the US. It is US dollars but you get "free" shipping. I had a naturopath friend look at the ingredients and she said that the only thing extra to add would still be the sardines twice/week(also good for their coats. Apparently as it is a liquid it is more easily absorbed.
  8. I feed my Cavalier the "diet" one and i'm very happy with it-her coat looks good and small poos. But she does also get other foods, such as raw bones, meat and vegies. It was also the only one she would eat.
  9. Thanks Tracey. I have seen that product on various other lists. I will certainly order some, when i run out of the glucosamine. My little one very rarely shows any symptoms and it was only by accident we found out
  10. Tracey, just a quick hijack of the thread, where do you get you Flexicose?
  11. My 2 year old cavalier has just been diagnosed with HD. She is on Glucosamine supplements as well as fish oil capsules, or sardines. She does exercises prescibed by a canine physio, and she is also having acupuncture. The only way you can tell she has HD is when she is tired her back end will sway, but that is much less since the acupuncture. She has also had a a course of Cartophen, as she had a little bit of arthritis and trigger point therapy. She never limps or has difficulty running or jumping. or getting up from the ground. They are not to have vigorous off leash activity, and must be kept lean. Please PM, if you need any further info.
  12. "tried acupuncture but Miss Sophie was not a good patient and kept trying to return the compliment with her teeth" I must be lucky-Lani is only 2 and goes to sleep for the full 1/2 hr that the needles are in. The vet comes in after about 15 mins and gives them a twiddle and she doesn't stir. That's a cavalier for you
  13. If it is arthritis, a series of cartophen injections would be beneficial. One/week for 4 weeks and then a top up when necessary. She also has a glucosamine and Chondroitin tablet of 1500mg every day and a fish oil capsule, or sardines, for the Omega? 3 and 6, every day. And we have just started acupuncture which is working very well
  14. Hi Larry, No, I'm not in the US.... I actually live on the North Shore, in Sydney The vet had just got the food in and only had 2 small bags and 1 bigger one.
  15. I have just come back from my local vet and saw Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. They had a 2.27kg bag for$ 23.?? and a bigger bag. Chicken was the first ingredient followed by organic brown rice and other organic veges. Such a coincidence after I had been reading this thread
  16. Just from an economic point of view...... if the dry foods are not working for your dog, are you taking them back for a refund? I know how expensive it can be, trying different types of food
  17. In a health food shop. Don't forget to give them at least 1/2 hour before the trip. And it might take more than once.
  18. Ginger tablets are good for this. Give them to the dog about 1/2 hour before you are going anywhere Don't feed the dog before you go on any trips Even put the dog in the car, in the drive way and just reverse up and down it . the dogs normally grow out of it.
  19. We go to Paws4Fun at Castle Hill, on Sunday afternoon. Good fun and well organised and not too competitive . Very proud to say there are at least 8 Cavaliers there !
  20. Where and when is it on? I am interested in clicker training for my cav
