Competition if you have more than one dog. My older one hasn't been doing much in the way of training for the past few weeks and last night was her first opportunity in ages - she has been coming out but mainly staying in the car while I train my younger girl and she was really fired up last night.
-
I am about to start my youngster shortly but not sure she is a hugely good comparison as she has had maybe 1 or 2 2-3 minute sessions and she happily drives through the poles. SG did emphasis making sure your dog was fired up to play by having a game etc prior to commencing a session. ETA. SG mentioned not using a clicker on her blog when it was asked. Can't remember the reasoning but you can probably find it if you look.

Hey Dova, I saw you in passing but didn't get a chance to say hi. Sounds like your two did well .

Awwwww Ptolomy no teasing about the i-squeaks - mine still aren't on the way yet and I am getting very impatient . -
Yep its heads up heelwork Rubystar - if you look on youtube and search for crufts obedience you will probably find some clips.

I would tend to agree there DD - I know my older girl's turns aren't to crash hot but not the end of the world for the first dog I have trained. I have been doing lots of perch work with my younger girl and that has been the extent of our turn practice although I actually don't think her LAT in the ring yesterday was to bad all things being considered. I rewatched the video this morning and the missed sit in the figure 8 which I first thought was due to the "scary" figure 8 post I have come to the conclusion was more to do with the fact I had rewarded her just prior to the halt and she probably hadn't completely eaten her treat .
-
I tend to teach it using placement of reinforcement. Not sure if that helps or not but to get her to go ahead over a single jump I throw the reward out so she has to continue on further to get to me. If you build value for the obstacle as well that can help with sending the dog out. Bit like the SG 2x2 weaving.

NC - I don't know but I know its on Quick road so I guess its the same one . I am so looking forward to actually getting serious with her training as she has so much potential .

Go Feloe and go Barkly :D :p .

Hahaha - yeah toys rate higher then food and I am not to concerned about that. Toys interrupt the flow and today I was just aiming for her not to freak. Also like I said she hasn't ever done anything not even at a club level so this was an entirely different ground for her where she hasn't worked before (or relatively little). Will aim at putting her into the training ring at club and just doing small bits with her and making better use of rewards and certainly won't be allowing any switching off. I will also say I don't know how hungry she was by the time she went in as I had to use good sized container of my treats when some stupid women decided to stand less than a meter from her crate with her kid and keep talking to the kid so I was sitting there feeding Kenzie to stop her getting scared - which it worked and she didn't notice the people. As for the turns PAX - hmmm actually still need to break them down and work on them separately. Her left about turns need more work and they do actually need to be trained properly . Her RATs are better than her sisters so at least I have improved my ability to train somewhat.

Bugger you PAX . This is a BRAGS thread for bragging about whatever we feel like LOL.

Ok here is the link to the video for anybody who wants to watch.

Its coming I promise I will share the link when its uploaded - I am quite chuffed with her. Nah its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but then she has a long way to go. Her attention at the start peg is better than her sticky beaking sister . I will say I had to be prodded to even put her in the ring as I thought she wasn't ready but watching it surprises me how much she actually can do . There is certainly a lot of feeding going on and before anybody wants to throw criticism at me for that its certainly not the way I do it in training .
-
Darn PAX what about Miss Kenzie!!! Well done Rubystar . Just watching the video of my round this morning and its even nicer then I thought it was .

Go Ptolomy and the tollers . I gotta add a brag on my own this morning. I put Kenzie in her first trial - well ok a mock CCD obedience trial. Any way for a girl who is pretty people timid and never really done a full round she did very nicely . Her heelwork was super - some lovely fast sits and drops and she even managed a stand which considering she hadn't really worked on until last night I was pleasantly surprised . She nailed her slow pace halt as well as her fast pace halt (both of which her older sister has hassles with ). She did some nice signals type work as I really haven't put verbal commands to anything yet - oops. It occured to me I haven't done anything much in the way of changes of pace with her but that didn't seem to bother her. Her figure 8 was the first she had done around people and she did a lovely outside post and even her inside post she didn't freak as badly as I thought. She did a SFE with a stranger without acting super timid. Yep she moved a couple of feet but she didn't run away. Her recall was nice. My friend said two kids caught her attention outside the ring as I left her but she stayed and didn't spook and then waited until she was called. Didn't do stays as well she isn't rock solid so no point. All up I am particularly happy with her performance. I guess I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Sure we have work to do but thats not a concern as there is plenty of time for that.

Obedience Scent Discrimination And Tracking
ness replied to Kynan's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hey Kynan, You will have to keep me posted on the tracking as I really do want to do some this year. Just checked out the date of the picnic and unfortunately its the same day as Kenzie's first birthday DOL meet so we won't be able to get there. -

And to think I let Miss Caffy hold Ness whilst she was in Adelaide to try and get her fired up before an agility round - hmmm maybe I will be more careful next time . -

yep they are the only ones doing tracking here in SA. If they actually tell you when they train - I tried to do it hmm last year or the year before - left phone messages and they said they would ring me when they trained never heard back . -

Who are you doing tracking with - maybe approach the people running the tracking and find out what there preferred method is. I know a few of them are also involved/have been involved in obedience. -

I wouldn't worry to much about confusion - its not likely the articles used in tracking will resemble a DB or a scent article. Mainly they use items of clothing - old socks, t-shirts etc. -
