Who Wants To Order From Clean Run?
ness replied to laffi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep I have an orbee. The small is a bit small and the medium is a bit large  . Not Ptolomy but you would probably be ok with medium i-squeaks for normal fetching Rubystar. Think Ptolomy wants the small ones for obedience training. -

Depends what sort you want. I find if I have a dog that tugs then the smaller the better. Anything I can hide really easily. With Kenzie as a baby I used lots of braided polar fleece type tugs (you can probably make your own cheap enough). Dead toy carcasses are also popular. I have to say I tried to introduce as many sort of tug toys to her as I could so I would have plenty of options available when she was bigger. Seems to have worked as she isn't that fussy and will just as happily tug on a lead, sheepie toy, plastic bottle anything I present to her. -

Kenzie LOVES her wonder bars . She killed one when I washed it and left it to dry on one of the window ledges. It was a few months ago when she was having a mad chewing moment. So I had to order another one  . -

I have to say my favourite for really motivated tug dogs is the wonder bar. I have the mini ones which I use in training  http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...mp;ParentCat=29 Not to keen on the bunny fur ones as the fur doesn't seem to last very long at all. Spotted devil I have the single handle bunny fur one which looks similar to the one on clean run with the double handle and I wouldn't recommend it for durability. I bought this one: http://www.genuinedoggear.com/GDT-SHPY-BR-...furry_toys.html ETA. Ptolomy do you not have an i-squeak factory over there yet . -

Which sheepie tug were you talking about . -
ok - she is all yours. Should arrive tomorrow.
-
I will try and get some video of Ness playing tug for all those skeptic people who don't think Ness will tug . ETA. LP I just bought her back from the park and for the second night running its resulted in me having to bath her cos she has rolled in something stinky. Maybe I'll just send her over to you .

Ness does tug Laffi just only when it suits her .
-
So I probably shouldn't post the video of my BC pup at 12 weeks at a trial playing tug . And nah trust me you don't want a BC you have to live with them 24/7 .

Anybody think we should murder laffi - Bugger you . -
LOL - ok have stolen that idea . I was rewatching one of the SG vids on her blog and it looks like the dog is actually nose targeting the end edge on the dogwalk.
-
See you put those clear plastic dvds/cds that are on the bottom and tops of the packets to good use LP .
-
If I had a video camera tripod I would try and video what I have been doing as I intend on starting my baby shortly .

Nah I don't think thats the reason. The Royal score (and possible placing) I wasn't even aware of until after she had broken. It was only when Valeta saw that I was upset and called me over to tell me how upset she was for me. All Ptolomy and Deb Hyde said to me after the ring work (one or other of them had checked my score) was that I should be tickled pink with both my handling and her performance. Was really none the wiser about the rest until after the event. Both occasions she has broken her down stay and its been the same thing. She has started licking her tummy and then sat up. I also know it wasn't ring related as both times I had been telling her off in the morning on the way to the trial for licking her tummy when she was just laying around so I think she had an allergic reaction to something.

So what did you order Trishalouise . -
I tried with Ness and Kenzie and a friends dog last night. The two older dogs did it with ease even with Kenzie running around like a lunatic and jumping in my lap. Kenzie on the other hand - well hmmm first up I was silly enough to set Ness up on my left but I set Kenzie up on the right. Well then I go to leave and Kenzie follows and I remember we have only done stays so far with me leaving her on the left. Go and set her back up again. She is fine and stays sitting when I sit down but the I open my mouth and she saw that as an invitation to pounce . Interesting though as it does show me that its not so much body movement with her that is a release trigger but any verbal. I have been pretty methodical at proofing body movement (although I know thats not perfect either) but rarely do I proof verbal commands. Not really a problem for obedience as you can't speak in stays but obviously for agility I need it rock solid so she only releases on her given release word.

Will make a comment on what JulesP said about leaving the dog to go and put equipment away. I have been told a sure fire way to ruin a stay is to give the dog a stay command and not be in a position to follow through with it. So if your packing up or pulling equipment down don't leave the dog in a stay. If either your or another person isn't available to enforce it then don't give the command. Tie them up or put them back in a car/crate somewhere where they are safe. The only time you should give your dog a stay command is when you intend to enforce it. It happens time and time again people give there dogs a "stay" then go off and do something else and don't release the dog and the dog eventually gets up and wanders over. Well what does that teach the dog. Not saying that any of the people who's dogs break stays do this but it can be one reason.

Think the net was playing up - bloody thing.

Hmmm I can't remember what I did with Ness and Kenzie really isn't at that point yet. I don't remember specifically training with other dogs walking in close proximity but then neither of my girls are really that dog focussed. I remember in the deep distant past another dog breaking and Ness getting up and joining them in a chase this was back in the very early days of training. I don't remember making a big deal about it and it only happened the once. A friend and I did set the older 2 up to work on stays and left Kenzie as a youngster chasing the birds but not something I do very often and Ness is pretty rock solid anyway.

If it happened in an in sight stay and another dog even so much as approached one of my dogs with ill intentions I would back to them quick smart never mind what the judge or stewards says. Not worth the risk. Either that or I would call my dog to me. Harder when its an out of sight stay and you can't see the dog but I would be hoping in that instance that there would be enough people around outside who might step in and ensure the dog was safe.
