  1. I got 27/50 for the first one some of the ones I missed i tried to enter and must have been spelling incorrectly Other than that it probably is a good reflection of my level of knowledge - I definitely have a lot to learn  I found I had to run it in internet explorer not my normal browser firefox so if you have trouble getting it to work that may help.
  2. beautiful photos as always ... we are going to Australia Zoo on Friday for our work party :) I hope some of the animals are awake while we are there!
  3. i keep hoping to find somebody credible willing to say that those pet protector discs work  It would be so great if they did but given the lack of impartial (ie not the people selling them!) reviews to be found I guess it's unlikely. sigh
  4. Thanks for the info guys ... I actually saw his dad the other day when I took him to his breeder for a visit ... dad is very stocky and muscular but Hunter is already taller than him. Its amazing how alike they are ... their faces are near identical Hunter already has the tendency to gain weight really quickly if we miss any excercise during the week so I guess we will have to be extra careful about that when we get him done as well.
  5. oh Seven ... in that case totally looks like a slobbering vicious monster a snuggle monster maybe :)
  6. yep, just double checked on the council website and I'm almost positive my council charges us annually. It doesn't come right out and way one way or the other but they offer a pro rata discount if you register in the second half of the yearly term so that seems pretty damning lol. $128 undesexed or $31 desexed, yearly. Some of you other council areas have it pretty good
  7. if you were walking Dyzney (in particular) out of your sig picture, I don't know how anyone could look at his face and call him vicious! What a cutey.
  8. Yes. From memory, that's about right. I have always had a problem with it though. In effect, the councils are coercing people to have their dogs desexed before six months. In practice, the council is unlikely to go after the owner of an unregistered six month old - desexed or not, and my understanding is that an owner needs to be given 28 days notice anyway. It's a one-off fee that lasts the life time of the dog. My issue is that if an owner believes it is better for the dog to be desexed later, they are not given a choice. I would like to see an option of paying the higher fee for an un-desexed dog at six months, then getting a refund for the difference when the dog is desexed at a later date. I thought you had to pay the council rego every year at the higher rate? or is my council ripping us off  My boy is coming up to 12 months old now and I want to get him desexed soon... I know that staffies are supposed to keep growing till about 2 though. I think Hunter has pretty much reached is full height, but he will probably fill out further and get a bit stockier. I am concerned that getting him desexed to early will affect his musculature. At the moment he is all rippling muscles and I don't want him to lose that condition. Am I right in thinking the hormaone changes after he is desexed will have a large effect on this, or is it more a case of just keeping him excercised?
  9. i have Hyundai Santa Fe ... its diesel so very economical, heaps of space in boot and the seats lay down flat. I have fit a blow up queen mattress in there before with a bit of squishing lol. It does look a little soccer mum-esque and is really more of a "soft roader" than and off roader but it tows the camper trailer really weel on rough dirt tracks, and keeps me from getting bogged in the mud at festivals so it works for me! Fits the dogs, and the child, and the camping gear in it fine, and still leaves everyone comfortable. Would definitely recommend if you are looking at SUV style cars :)
  10. I use harnesses and the short leads that clip into the seatbelt latch. I always through it was law that they had to be restrained in the vehicle, but after much searching it appears that it is correct that there is no specific law here in Qld at least. I'm obviously not as smart as some others here on the forum cos I got hopelessly muddled when trying to search through the actual law directories  ... resorted back to google and found the info below posted in another forum which clarified the issue for me. Information from the Qld Department of Transport which pretty much expands on what Danois posted :) .
  11. cool site... I got it wrong too  but interesting just to see what the other dogs actually are... I've never heard of some of them.
  12. mum's current horse Diesel is an ex-pacer ... lovely boy, beautiful nature. He only ever paces when he gets a bit overexcited or confused now  . He's a bit dopey bit we only really do a bit of trail riding so his easy going, calm temperment is perfect for us. I don't think he has an ugly face at all! Hard to keep condition on him in winter though .. compared to my quarter horse and the Hackney/Australian Pony anyways haha
  13. that's an interesting point about girls growing a brain quicker than boys ... I have definitely noticed that with my two but i thought it was just their individual personalities rather than a sex thing. He is definitely the cuddlier of the 2. Hunter is nearly 1 now and has never marked in the house ... he does mark at every possible tree, post etc ect and also have to keep a very keen eye on him if I take him into cityfarmers or somewhere as he will mark inside places like that where other dogs have been.
  14. haha just establishing the "pecking" order  .. sorry :p
  15. thats the picture of doggy happiness right there! gorgeous
  16. well the puppies loved their first taste of the VAN health booster ... I was a bit worried that picky Juno would turn her nose up at it but they licked the bowls clean lol ... now to give it some time and see if anything changes I guess.
  17. will do - I think there are lots of people on this forum who use it already, and I've only really seen good reviews so I am hoping my dogs do well on it. It is more a "peace of mind" thing for me ... I don't to be inadvertently depriving the pups of anything they need in my attempt to feed them a healthy raw diet!
  18. I only got the VAN today so I am probably the furtherest thing from an expert you will find but ... I think it includes all the vitamens and minerals they need however they sell a separate omega oils product so I am thinking that you would still want to add in the fish oil... Vehs, my girl got desexed a couple of months ago which would tie in with when she started to "calm down" ... would you suggest that this might be a factor? I hadn't really connected the dots between the two events before lol
  19. I'm following this thread with interest.. I have noticed that Juno seems to be a lot calmer/low energy lately. She still has wild zoomie moments and goes flat chat for as long as we let her at the park but she also spends a lot of time lying around looking a bit listless when at home with nothing much going on. She seems very healthy - coat, eyes, teeth, weight etc all great ... perhaps she has just started calming down and maturing? She's only 9 mths so this seems a bit early. I have just received my first tub of VAN Health Booster today, to make sure I'm not missing out any vital nutrients/vitamins in her raw diet so I will see if this makes any difference.
  20. I have no advise re babies ... just wanted to echo the call for a photo
  21. does anyone have a picture of a NZ Huntaway? I have no clue what they look like
  22. Poor Neko so adorable... I would so fail at ever trying to be firm with her haha lucky she is a little angel I know she is about the polar opposite of a staffie that you can get but so many of her facial expressions remind me of Juno when she was little!! I think it's the ears
  23. Wabbit I have been looking for my two staffords as well.. the main problem for my two is that their bums keep sinking as they aren't kicking enough with their back legs lol... wondering if you have a similar issue and do your life jackets keep their bums up?
