New Foster Babies - 9 X Dingo/cattle
Two Best Dogs! replied to tdierikx's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I like SP because his face marking reminds me of a dog I applied to adopt one time (and was knocked back for). She was a heeler cross and had a similar sturdy body and mischief in her big dark eyes  -

Guys! We did a Stand for Exam! IN CLASS. It wasn't actual testing but WE DID it. She kept her feet still, wasn't worried by trainer (did sniff approaching hand) and hand was run down head and back. Very proud of her :) She did it twice, too. Although second time she shuffled her feet a little but this isn't competition obedience, this is life style "not everything is scary" obedience. She also did sits and drops in circles with other dogs and me at a distance and people weaving between her. She did get worried when a water bottle was thrown past but was very good and didn't break. She was also very good at a literal strangers house while we played tetris with my car and a tank. I'm actually kind of confident to ask if we can test for the next level? Dog tetris: -
Canberra Woman Mauled While Walking Dogs

Mauled by a wombat. Wombats are just as dangerous as 'roos. Give them plenty of space. -

Brown with big white face marking is my favourite, please give him or her an ear scratch for me! -
I could only find the WA Supreme Court judgements (part 1 and part 2 - not sure the difference between part 1 and 2...) where the appeal was dismissed? I can't say reading the appeal is making me sympathetic to the lady. 38 degree day, only partial shade, over 4 hours. It's quite upsetting to read even in 'lawyer' speak. The bit I quoted from the appeal dismissal is the bit I'm currently most troubled by - the lack of remorse or acknowledgement on the danger the dog was in Is it an upcoming case? I'm not sure how to find those. Googling her name doesn't come up with much except the news articles and the occasional dog show.
-
Where? All I could find was that the lady attempted to appeal the decision and the court upheld the verdict. Does anyone know where to find WA court decisions? http://www.coastlive.com.au/perth-appeal-against-animal-cruelty-conviction-thrown-out/ Additionally seems she was "only" fined $5k for leaving the dog in her vehicle, the other $30k being legal costs
-
I was wondering what the lady in your link had for a set up and my heart stopped when I read about it 38c day, in the average car?! The dog needed to be treated for heat stroke?!? http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/dog-breeder-adele-culverwell-left-dog-in-car-as-she-shopped-at-carousel-on-38c-day/news-story/95e7704c24d972f695ae657cf21ef8ca ???? Only way I'd leave my dog in the car on a 38c day is if I had one of those big white dog trailers with the fans and air con.

How Do You Exercise Your Dog?
Two Best Dogs! replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
For your new question: As I mentioned earlier, 30 minute walks twice a day. Short but loose lead, quick consistent pace. No sniffing except as a reward in specific circumstances. Our walks are for energy burning and small part of the day's exercise. Neither of us are there to socialise or admire the view. It is very hard for a scared dog to get worked up over different things when you are constantly moving. It's also very difficult for us to be surprised by offlead dogs that are being "walked" when we are already further down the street before the dog has realised we are there and my dog isn't getting time to overthink the new "arrival". Neither of us particularly like walking in our local neighbourhood. And that's all my neighbours see. What they don't see is: Flirtpole or chuckit for a few rounds after we get home. Body awareness confidence building exercises - this week we have been doing stand-drops-sits on a home made wobble board. I don't consider obedience (once a week) or desensitisation sessions (twice a week) to be exercise although they certainly exhaust her brain. Park visits (twice a week) are mostly for her to run about sniffing or chasing a ball, within reason and safety limits. Weekly adventures to wherever I have decided for the week...dog parks, play dates, forest adventures, markets. We do have a treadmill for rainy-days. Walks are a very small part of the day and we have no need for them to be the "quality" exercise of the day with everything else we do. Consider our walks the warm-up for the real activities and fun. It's neither right or wrong, just a different option. -

If it works for them, it works for them. My walks are all business. I keep the sniffs, fun and games to other times. All up an hour and a half over a day for a young dog? Hardly too much. My walks? Fast consistent pace, 30 second bits of training maybe twice during the whole time. I will do LAT with two front yards and there dogs and that's about the only time we're stationary. Nothing wrong with our walks. Just different type of walks. -
Older Bitch Spay Incontinence
Two Best Dogs! replied to trifecta's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My report back is that it didn't work for us ???? We are currently in a lull - the incontinence comes and goes with months between. We are waiting for it to come again for more testing - although I am periodically testing her ph (oddly high some times, reasons unknown) - but the high ph and leaking doesn't seemed linked. I made the corn silk tea so perhaps I made it wrong. I think others are using capsules? -

Definitely get a muzzle or you might find your choices taken out of your hands when she makes contact with someone. A soft muzzle is dangerous for walks, get a baskerville. If not seeing a vet behavourist who can identify causes, triggers and what to look for that indicates you should leave now (versus leaving after a freak out occurs) etc - consider working with a trainer? At the least, a trainer could help set up fake daily life situations and you can work on training your dog/rewarding appropriate behaviour in a controlled environment. Good luck

We went to bunnings last night! It was no big deal at all. Walked in, asked for item locations, still struggled to find items (literally right in front of me), Thistle was quiet but not overly uncertain or shutdown. She did start walking faster when a big guy with a trolley was going past so we moved over. Didn't try to get the muzzle off, grabbed our stuff and left (she walked a little faster when someone was throwing big heavy things into a car as we passed which made big banging noises. But she didn't bolt or freak out) Will be trying different muzzles tomorrow as it looked too small, sent a photo to head trainer and he agreed. Haven't put it on her properly since getting it so hadn't noticed. I think one more size up, hopefully. All in all, afterhours weekday bunnings isn't a big issue. -

I started out using single words and now use dual for most things So left/right for spin, heel/side for going to heel Different ways. Flip to heel on right. Around to go around me and behind to do it backwards. Paw vs fist bump. Up/on/booty for how many limbs on an object and which. Can use words you want and remember XD For the crossing if fading out your signal id go two commands.

You guys are disturbing me lol I should add. T does have a dark circle scar where it was. I had it removed because I like to give her ear rubs. She has a different benign wart on her tummy as well. But it's unchanged in size so I leave it. -
Looks like the Sydney dog lovers is getting a much better haul than the melbourne did  i am glad, all we got was treats, treats and more treats. would have liked more cheap toys/decorative leads and stuff (woofy wash bag?). I'm hoping we get to see Malcolm in his new harness!

It looks like the wart T had on her ear when it got wet. It was benign but I didn't like it, so asked them to remove it
