  1. thats the best way, but I was dropping off a pup and was so impressed by the crate they put him in I bought one. then thought, hey I need 2 so chuffed. received this today, this is why so many prefer to breed or buy their own instead of a rescue. time will tell how long before freedom of choice no longer survives in the nanny states of australia now. "Hello This is Jodie from Mount Gambier SA I purchased a Blue bitch pup off you a couple of years ago and had her flown to Adelaide her registed name is " Callie" out of Princess by Lightning (we call her Ellie) Just thought I would just let you know she is going GREAT I couldn't be happier with her, a lot of people call her small or think she is still a puppy but I think she is the perfect size and has a perfect temperament she is a fine example of how great the breed is and we are turning heeler haters around where ever we go the usual comment I get is "I don't like heelers but I do love yours she is beautiful" half the time it feels like I am defending the entire breed because someone had a bad run in with a heeler and now don't like or trust heelers even when their owner is standing their with them on a lead?? We have been attending Obedience classes since June as I wanted a bit of me time away from the kids and I LOVE it we have moved up 2 classes already and are now in grade 2. I remember our first club competition to see if we would pass to go up to the next grade I still wasn't sure how it all worked anyway we entered and Ellie had be playing up a bit that day not behaving as she usually did in training/class, anyway I told the judge on the way in she's being a bitch but we will see how we go, and well we came out with a score of 195 out of 200 and took out first place won a ribbon and all I was so excited to show my husband when I got home, we are now into our 3rd week of Agility training and she is doing great as well, at home she climbs the ladder up into the kids cubby house which is quite high but she taught herself that just by following the kids up and down. " Um yeah asal, I just read through my original post and seriously don't understand how the rude comment about rescuing fits in. I don't really care about such and such's brilliant heeler... I wanted to know what crates people liked for a lower price. Yes my dogs are both rescues, as that is our family's choice. I was nearly going to buy a purebred Shetland sheepdog or Papillon, but then we met our rescue pup that we have now. In my opinion there should be that choice to get either a rescue or a pedigree if you wish. I love both!! Yes rescues sometimes have behavioural problems, but if you aren't up for the task then don't get one! Sorry but I don't really like someone being nasty when I was asking a completely unrelated question... it was in my head as I had just been reading that 20 pages of the http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/ima...ember_2016.pdf and Pulford couldn't seem to see if pet shops are so unsuitable for puppies from a breeder, how on earth are they suitable for rescues, they are dogs as well too, last I looked. it wasn't meant as a dig actually, well not at the dogs, but the stupidity of Pulford who I just cant believe has the Agriculture portfolio. But I see now that's how it came out. then to receive that totally unexpected email made me realise why Ive stuck it out now that to breed your own is to be perceived to be no better than being a prostitute these days. have a bad habit of writing what im thinking. I tend to like the plastic crates because, no rust and as I mostly transport puppies in a crate, the adults share a seat and seatbelt. Puppies can throw up when you least expect it or decide they just HAVE to go and the sight of a doo, even worse a sloppy doo shooting (travelling seems to upset some just like kids) out the side of a wire crate onto the seat or seat or boot cover takes my mind totally off driving and the urge to clean up is too distracting if in traffic and cant pull over Ok then. Maybe next time re-read what you are saying and make sure it's at least somewhat relevant to the topic please. Not a good idea to go offending people on a completely unrelated thread. If it was about rescue vs breeding, then I'd maybe consider your opinion, but we weren't talking about that. Cheers.
  2. Oh ok so realsmart is pretty good? I was going to buy from them but was a little apprehensive because so many people had bad experiences with them. As well as a lot of perfectly fine ones. Is yours easily bent or rusty or anything? Thanks rubiton :)
  3. Yep. It's a cross bred dog. Probably bred without any health testing of sire and dam and sold for more than a pure bred. Yeah, probably people who like pugs & frenchies (very fashionable at the moment) and can't decide. Also puppy millers who are breeding both and had an oops? Or on purpose. Makes me angry though. Puppy farms/mass breeding without major health consideration is bad enough for any other breed. But then throw in unhealthy breeds like pugs and frenchies, who often need c-sections, and have the brachy face and breathing problems. Not a good idea to breed them like rabbits in my opinion! Really bad for the breeds. I know that there are unhealthy Frenchies and Pugs bred, but do not throw all of us into the category of breeding unhealthy dogs, I have been breeding Frenchies, previously Pem Corgis, for 35 years and most of my dogs have lived to about 14 years old also the ones I have sold only needing the vet for annual check ups, yes the girls do have to have c sections, but then you only ever have two litters, if you are ethical, from the one bitch. It is a lot of homework to be done before doing a mating to make sure that you have health tested dogs also what has been produced by the Sire or Dam from previous litters. Oh no I'm really sorry, that's not what I meant ❤️ I meant the puppy millers and BYB breed without the necessary health testing etc which really effects the poor little guys. Slack BYB & puppy millers don't bother with C-sections, even if necessary and can put the dogs through lots of issues from that. I have a lot of respect and admire awesome breeders like you guys on dol that put so much effort in, and in turn have great dogs. :)
  4. I was thinking wire, but plastic would be ok too. The younger one (Staffy) might not use a crate by himself so it would be nice to pack his away. The corgi loves hiding under the bed, under the table and the bench so I'm sure he would love a crate to sleep in. :-)

" This is a thread about crates. Was the random dig at rescue really necessary? Yes I do not get what you are getting at asal...
  7. Thanks Juice, ???? I think I'll have another look at Vebo, they seem to be good quality without huge prices. I was looking at this random junk website called "Real Smart" because they were really cheap, but that'd be because they're cheap quality. Also apparently some people never received their orders so I'll stay away from them...
  8. the two words dont necessarily go together. I bought a very well made and strong crate big enough to carry a medium sized border collie, kelpie or ACD in a car for $80 from Dogtainers at Mascot. even has bowls for feed and water attached inside. love it. That was brand new not second hand Thank you ???? That's a pretty good price, I just wanted to avoid having to spend a few hundred $$$ on them, Petbarn sells 24" for like $90 or something! A little steep in my opinion... I need one for a 13kg corgi and a 20kg Staffy (tall) Thinking 30" and 36" will be ok?
  9. Hi DOL, For Christmas we are going to my cousin's place, which has been newly renovated and doesn't have a fence yet. They live on a quiet back lane several blocks from Pennant Hills Rd. We think the dogs will be ok in the yard when we are there if we have harnesses and leashes on in case, but considering a crate to put them away somewhere while the humans are eating and at night time? Cousins may have a playpen and crate we could borrow as they are about to bring home a labby pup after Xmas! I was wondering if anyone knew a place to buy a cheap and decent quality crate? Any recommendations? :)

  11. Thanks so much! Yes he was imported from NZ, they got him in the 80s I think from a lady in the Hunter Valley/Newcastle area. Maybe Morpeth but I can't remember, near me anyway. I might contact them just for fun. Thanks again! :)
  12. Oh my goodness!! Thanks so much! I'll go have a look :D Maybe one day we can get one of Stormy's little relatives. Don't think another dog will happen for a while, but when we do, if we want a corgi we'll have a look. That made my day finding that out. I'll have to tell my Grandfather, who owned our Stormy! He doesn't want another dog though, he would love one but he feels he would be way too heartbroken when the dog goes over the rainbow bridge. Stormy was at a kennel while they were on holiday one day and when they got home he was dead! They were too mortified and upset to ask so no-one actually knows what happened to the poor little fella! (Sorry for kind of ruining this feed btw! oops.)
  13. Nope, no need to! With persistence, consistency, yummy treats/toys and sometimes a marker ("yes" or a clicker) you can teach anything. Ignore bad behaviour and reward good ones. Dogs are incredibly smart and even pick up on some things without reinforcement or punishment. My dogs know in and out just from me saying the word when we go inside or outside. Maybe look up on YouTube; Grisha Stewart, Zac George & Kikopup :) They have some helpful videos. If your trainer/club is teaching things you don't agree with, there's no need to do that. Find another more positive trainer if you feel that is best. I also have an amstaff (1year old) who was riddled with issues and had no training. Now he's such a good boy and is very obedient and much more polite. He is friends with about 4 dogs now so that's a good start ????
  14. Yeah, I've been trying to track them down and see if they are still breeding. :-) He was called "Stormwey Dark n Handsome" so they called him Stormy. I can't find his pedigree online or anything but I can find his sire and dam. I think Revelmere Cockahoops or something? Such cool names hehe :-)
  15. Our neighbour has a little dog who has ACD markings and fur, but has little legs and a long body like my corgi x terrier rescue :-) He'a a funny little thing, he can't actually bark properly, he sounds hilarious!
  16. My Dad had a corgi x kelpie as a kid, he was a lovely dog with many funny stories that I grew up hearing :-) They also had a pure Pembroke corgi called Stormwey. Now we have a corgi x jack Russell rescue boy too. ❤️
  17. Wait what? How does not feeding offal work?!? That would mean HUMANS can't eat offal...?? Because how can they sell it for humans but not for pets? Pets need it in any raw diet and it is incorporated into any dry kibble/tin food too.... how are they supposed to regulate that? Just completely discourage raw feeding?
  18. You could make a puppy only bank account and add however much you can each week/fortnight/month for a while to save up a few thousand to keep away just in case. (Say add $50 a week for a few years and don't spend any of it on other things.) Then you don't have to pay an insurance fee/bill if you end up not needing it. We were contemplating pet insurance because both our dogs have had several issues, but obviously they won't cover existing issues. (Corgi tore ACLs and is likely to get arthritis, which they wouldn't cover so it's useless for us)
  19. Im torn. I think they have the right intentions. Puppy farms need to be shut down (even ones like Banksia Park, that have decent standards it's still mass producing pups, there are already too many. Plus they breed "designer dogs" (mutts for 10x the price)) And I agree pet shops should only sell rescue puppies & dogs. I don't think any good breeder would want to waste the first few essential weeks and socialisation opportunities of their puppies life in a shop window. BUT if ALL breeders, even responsible, loving, smallscale breeders need to have kennels and a DAB, that is just ridiculous. If that means I can't have a well socialised puppy (which has to happen young!) then that's rubbish. They really need to just put a bit more consideration into this so it does abolish puppy farms and mass breeding pups, but responsible breeders of pedigree dogs aren't affected. Realistically the only people that will adhere to these laws are good honest breeders. As if accidental litters and BYBs are going to get a DAB license. I've seen pups on gumtree who aren't even microchipped yet at 6mths! People like that aren't going to care.
  20. Our dogs do very well on Black Hawk. They seem to be pretty bulletproof stomach-wise though. But not sure as Blackhawk seem to be changing their "recipes" and they have a new grain free version so maybe the old one will change. The emu oil has been really good for our itchy dog's coat. (In addition to coconut oil and raw fed for dinner) Worth a try. :)
  21. I watched all of them, thank you for recommending! I found them very interesting, the one about dog-fighting was quite confronting though of course, but it was still interesting.
  22. (Hello, I'm new btw thought I'd introduce myself) :-) We managed to grab 2x Ruffwear front range harnesses for $40 for the pair on Gumtree! Best thing EVER! Really good harnesses, they are clear of the shoulders, have a front and back clip and have two snaps so it does up like a collar essentially and they are awesome quality. LOVE our front range harnesses!! Also if you are looking for a springy lead for running I'm selling an Ezydog one, I tried it once and I don't really like it for walking.
