  1. Bosco, about 10 weeks old. Bozzy at maybe 6 - 8 months?? - i need to start dating my photos! Bozzy on his first birthday, And in February this year on his 5th birthday.
  2. I would love to catch up with all those that I have not seen in ages, and it would be lovely to meet some new faces, human and pooch I would not be able to do this weekend though, and if it is a doggy meet, Bosco may have to miss out... He has become a bit feral as he ages, little shit he is
  3. Bosco was always pretty good, and never really chewed the normal things that puppies chew on - however, when he did chew something, he did it right, and it was always due to his seperation anxiety. When he was a pup, I used to keep him in the spare room to keep him out of mischief while I was not home. He ate the bottom out of a lounge, presumably so he could sleep in there, and he also used to chew on the bottom of the door trying to get out. Once I had to put him in the garage because I had to keep the dogs seperated, and I came home to one of the corners chewed out. He ate through my wooden fence at home and escaped the yard. Admittedly, it was just normal planks of wood you see on fencing, so probably not too difficult for him. This was while I was out of state with work, so my dad collected him and kept him at his place. Bosco then ate through my dads wooden gate, ate a hole straight through it, and this gate is about twice the thickness of standard fencing, and solid wood. He escaped again. After that, mum took him until I got home, because she has metal dog runs. After I got home from said work trip, I had to keep him in the house for a week while I was builing him his own run, and I came home one day to a half chewed through laundry door. I bought some chicken mesh and nailed it to the door in the hope that he would leave it alone. But when I got home the next day, he was waiting at the front door for me. He had managed to not only eat through the chicken mesh, but also the rest of the laundry door (which I obviously had to replace) and then started on the front door trying to get out of the house, destroying the carpet in the meantime. The run was built that following weekend, and as a result, have not had to replace any doors or carpet since.
  4. Run free over the bridge Ollie I'm so sorry Jodie, he was a very special man
  5. oohhh, I might have to go and pick one up for Kyah. Her food lasts all of about a minute!
  6. Naked dogs in our house too. When I still had Loki, I used to have collars on the dogs but one day I took them to the training grounds for a run, and I had the same issue with the dogs playing, and Bosco got his bottom jaw stuck in Loki's collar. It was awful, as soon as Bos realised he could not release his jaw, he panicked, tightening Loki's collar. I'm just glad I was there, because if it had have happened when I was not home, it could have been pretty awful. I too have heard some terrible stories of dogs hanging, so I don't leave collars on. Both Bosco and Kyah are locked in the run when we are away from the house anyway, so they can't escape unless someone jumps the fence and cuts the padlock. I still don't use collars though, because they play quite rough with each other, so it's just not worth the risk IMO I do understand the other side though. When Loki went missing she had no collar on, and it was only due to her microchip that the vet's knew who she was, but it took them a couple of goes to find it.
  7. Two mutts. My boy Bosco was adopted as a staffy X, and Kyah is a true bitza. Apparently she is dane x mastiff x bully x dog knows what else
  8. Great idea RnB! I would love to help too, I just feel really helpless about what is happening, because I have absolutely no idea how to help, or even where to start.
  9. Canberra's closer. I'm pretty confident the ACT won't get on this bandwagon. I hope you're right PF - I don't like to think what may happen to Bosco if they do decide to follow suit. I just saw this link on facebook, and my stomach turned.... I feel sick at what is happening. So many families are going to lose beloved family pets who have done nothing wrong, and so many innocent dogs who are going to lose their lives. I really am just speechless.
  10. I too hit "don't know" for most of the cross breeds, or the ones that I thought were cross breeds anyway. Although, I did think that maybe it could also work the other way around, and serve as a way to prove that the general public really does not know what the crossbreeds are, and that most people will just assume they are all APBT or crosses whether they are or not, if that makes sense? But I guess the creator of the survey would also need to know the parentage of the crosses for that to be possible.. I dunno.
  11. Pitbulls haven't "worked" legally for many years. They no longer perform their original function and much as I would never sanction nor condone dog fighting, frankly I think its part of the problem because the human aggression that would have been ruthlessly culled in the breed is now encouraged by a small proportion of fanciers (and that's the start of the problem) Then we have the type of folk attracted to the breed for the wrong reasons. The tough macho types who give their dogs tough names and drape them in studs and leather and apppear to enjoy them intimidating others. Its one thing to admire the breed for its courage and tenancity and another entirely to encourage manifestations of anti-social behaviour in the dogs. Sadly, BSL has shut down opportunities for these dogs to attend training in most states but we hardly ever see them at our dog club where they'd have the opportunity to be good ambassadors for the breed. The "circle the wagons and stuff everyone else" paradigm adopted by the breeds defenders in the anti-BSL fight didn't help either. But none of this means that the dogs are inherently dangerous.. lets not lose sight of that. Half the time the dog they use as the testing dog in temperament tests on shows like Animal Cops is a pitbull... a happy, tail waggy friendly dog. Well, Bosco and have gone back to training down at CDC, so if you are ever down there on a Sunday morning and see the brown doggy in my sig, come and say hi

Good - don't need this breed of dog. It's certaiinly not what one would class a "family" dog. It's a fighting dog. Tell that to my boyfriends 4 year old daughter, who happily, and calmly sits and pats my Bosco when she is here. She is always supervised, and she has been told the rules of the house in regards to the dogs, and the dogs are not allowed to run around and be a nuisance while she is here. Bosco is always very calm and gentle when she is here and playing with him. Not once has there been even a clue of an 'incident', but I put that down to reasonably well behaved dogs, with rules in place, and proper education and supervision of the 4yo when she is here. I have pretty strict rules in place when it comes to the kids and dogs, as I don't ever want anything to happen in this house. Bosco could quite easily be classified as a 'pit-type' or even a 'pit-mix' and to be honest, I am proud of him. He also lives quite happily with another dog in the house. ETA: Bosco is also very well behaved with my boyfriend's 10 year old, who when she is here enjoys practising some obedience training with him, and he quite happily follows her around, obeying most of what she asks.

  14. This happened to Kyah a few months ago. It was about 8.30 - 9pm at night from memory, and the OH had gone out in the car for something so I was home by myself. First thing I noticed was that she could not keep still, scratching her face, running around and hiding, I thought she was just being silly, so told her to go and lie down. Literally a couple of minutes later I noticed that her eyes looked a bit red and puffy and figured it was from all the scratching she had been doing. It only took minutes for her whole face to swell up and she also started to get hives all over her body. I panicked, rang OH and told him to hurry up and get home because she needed to go to the vet. I think I was pacing the whole while until he got home. Anyhow, we rang the vet when he got home and she said that it sounded like an allergic reaction to something, and that normal human anti-histamenes should do the job. OH took her with him to the nearest 24hr chemist and picked some up and within half an hour or something she was back to normal, albeit a little tired. She never had any breathing difficulties, but we guessed it was a bee.
  15. There are some very worthy award contenders in this thread Oh how I wish I had a photo of the laundry door and carpet after Bosco had to be left inside for a few days whilst I was building his run - He literally ate completely through the laundry door, and once he was out he tried to get out the front door and pulled up all the carpet doing so. I got home from work to a nice mess indeed. I ended up being able to have the carpet repaired, but the door was cactus and had to be replaced. This is actually Loki's handywork, she just managed to escape being caught in the act. Bosco was just finishing it off for her. The book is Marley and Me, and I had been reading it every night so I guess Loki was trying to tell me that I had ignored her way too much. Thankfully I had finished it only the night before. Otherwise, my two were not too bad.
  16. Which Bosco would really, really like to win!! We have put our bid in so fingers crossed
  17. I saw that - and I have put my bid in for Bosco. I figured that if I was running around sporting a K9Pro treat bag, Bosco might be good
  18. Thanks for posting Huski! If nothing else, it's a bit of fun and excitment :D
  19. I'm so sorry for your loss Gayle Run free Benson
  20. Thanks for all the replies! I am thinking of taking Bosco back to obedience later in the year, so I might get started on this at home and give him a head start.
  21. Can I ask, with LAT, do you start the conditioning with no distractions to get the dog used to the behaviour, or do you just go straight out there and find a distraction and then start? I would like to try this with Bosco, but was just wondering if I should start him off at home and click and treat for simply looking at me, or if he needs the distraction in order to be able to look away from it in the first place? Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing, brain knows what it wants to ask, sending it to the keyboard is a different story Thanks in advance!
  22. No need to apologise, Loki is a great name (provided they don't live up to the meaning of it too much) and my Loki was a girl, so that makes it OK
  23. I changed both of my dogs names when I adopted them, one an adult and one a pup, but neither of them seemed to have any problems at all working out their new names. I just started using them as soon as they came home. I don't think new names need to sound like the old names either, I mean Loki started out as Nazeem, and Bosco as Jamie, not much similar in any of those names Good luck, I'm sure something will come to mind :D
