Kill List Frustrations
_PL_ replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Czzzy there's plenty of people in rescue who will ship a dog sight unseen to a home they don't know as long as the buyer pays for transport. If he wants to take a gamble like that then he just needs to keep looking. -
Anne is 100% right but clauses are shared around anyway. Should be top of the list of your rescue's policies if you want to control desexing, care conditions and adoption process. No sharing.

Two weeks from when the dog leaves your care. Normally, form is signed, they give you the fee and take the dog. That's the beginning. Lots of people do 3 - 4 wks even though it's not in the regulations and would be a technical foul. You will need to have a list of registered carers. When a dog is processed out of impound the carer address goes in the 'address animal will be kept at' (it's not worded exactly that way but I can't be bothered getting a P1A form out) if you don't have carers then your own address goes there.

Rspca 'shocked' At Changes To New Dog Breeding Code
_PL_ replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
So I assume this is new because when I phoned RSPCA about a rescue that never walked the dogs after I documented how often the dogs got our over a few week period and they said they had no rules on how often a caged dog needed to be walked. NSW code says 10 minutes twice a day is sufficient. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/livestock/animal-welfare/codes -
Taking aside the dog-inexperience: what's wrong with taking a mature dog home from the pound?! Your comment about bringing home potential 'problems/illnesses' makes it sound like you should avoid pounds all together! Plenty of amazing, wonderful (and healthy!) mature dogs that need homes in pounds, so with advice and a steep learning curve there's nothing wrong with it! Yeh that is oddly written. Pound dogs are a great option for the right home. But I'm in agreement re logan not just trotting down to the pound and choosing a dog based on looks and age. There's more to life for a dog than just waiting around on the deck for you to get home.

I have no clue what you are going on about with the greyhounds. The two I had when I was on this forum one was adopted and I am facebook friends with her and the dog is very spoiled and in a good home. The other one was also adopted and doing well how that is damaging the breed I do not know. Seems to me that in the last year a few more greyhound rescues have popped up and although they all seem to be full all the time it seems that a lot of greyhounds are being saved, I even referred someone to GAP to get a dog and they did and are very happy with their new dog. So you have me stumped on this one but if that is how you feel so be it I wont ever change your mind. I'll guess it has something to do with muzzles for a start. There was a thread last year where you were quoted from FB.

Is this up to each rescue to decide or is there a recommended temp test that needs to be done? The rest is great and can live by them just wondering about this bit here. Hmm, not sure! They do have courses available but I haven't seen if there is temp test stuff. I'll email Julie, she can pop in and explain further. Honesty about temperament and/or special needs is a must but then again we all have different skills and knowledge. There's certain breeds or traits I have zero rehoming experience with (for example aussie working breeds) so wouldn't just take a rough guess, rather I would seek advice from those with expertise to help me assess a suitable home.
-
Do you have a link :) http://www.mdba.net.au/ Being a member isn't the solution to everything but Julie is always there to help and as a rescue member, I find it gives people a little more confidence. If we did anything wrong by an adopter they could seek resolution via MDBA as a 3rd party. There isn't another org who does that as far as I know. Narga were trying to set up as some kind of national body but I don't want to know.

The page is linked directly to the renbury site so it's kind of seen as 'official' I guess. It's not run independently like the ones who collect pledges, organise transport etc etc. Since the very beginning they've kept a lid on things like people saying they saw on another page that a dog was going to be safe. Plus the abuse re PTS and the FB arguments spectator sports that go on get cleaned up. But they happily discuss everything over the phone and don't hide stuff from genuine inquiries or rescue interest. They just don't let it get to where there's a 100 open debate comments on one dog which takes away from the other animals (and gets confusing if people are looking for accurate info).

He's not going to be bred from and if he does have a chance at a working life he needs to be entire. There's no need to desex on principle particularly if the dog is still maturing. He owns entire dogs and always has without accident so I don't see why the dog needs an unnecessary procedure done. You may not see why, but a desex agreement is just that. A mutual agreement. DAS will sell you a dog if you agree to desex. They don't sell a dog if you don't agree. So if he's truly not going to be bred from and will physically benefit from hormones then a vasectomy would be simple enough instead of being one of those types who lies to the pound and feels they are above a rule that applies to everyone else.
-
I don't see how there should be any difference if an agreement was signed and the dog was released in good faith. Rare breed or not, I don't like that the topic hasn't been addressed if the dog is available for rehoming entire. If he'd come out under rescue there would be a Dol meltdown about dogs being rehomed entire.
-
Was a desexing agreement with DAS signed at purchase?
-
You are correct, but I'm not critiquing the taking of dogs from long distance. Just arguing the fact that it can and should be done a whole lot better and cleaner. With more care for animal welfare, for where the dog ends up and a lot less risk of spreading something contagious all over the countryside. And your radar for responsible rescue had better be well and truly working when it's long distance, that includes the rescuer at the other end who as (given your experience) you must very well know, aren't always told exactly what they are getting.

Hi czzzy. Apologies for the long post but you're new and wanting to support some animals who really are at the end of the line. Problem being, what's from the outside seen as bickering is in fact genuine, sometimes frantic concern. The 'it's all about the dogs' gets thrown back in the face of anyone who questions ethics, morals or general practice. General practice such as temperament assessment, quarantine and adequate vetting of new homes are all being thrown out the window. Because anyone who even attempts to point out the historically sound and proven methods of rescuing: methods which really really are "all about the dogs". Finds themselves shouted down by people who cannot see past their own feel-goody rescue angel needs. Competing for praise and a good looking tally of dogs they have rescued. I can guarantee you now, dogs are being placed into situations where they would have been better off put to sleep at the pound than suffer what some people do to them. Unchecked homes with no fences. Terminally ill dogs being given away *crossing fingers* that they'll be taken care of. So you can make room for the next dog. Dragging dear old seniors around so you can get a pat on the head and a few sappy photos for FB. Hoarders, dog abusers, on-sellers and backyard breeders pretending to be rescue (this dirty little secret is more common than you'd think). And then there's poor bloody unrehomeable dogs living in a kennel forever. Going kennel crazy and being sedated every night. Because whoever saved them can't let reality get in the way of being a self appointed saviour. Your own dog is being put at risk as well. Maybe in the hold of a plane next to a parvo ridden dog somebody was so determined to save that they don't care what happens to anyone else. Could be a fresh pound dog sitting in the vet's waiting room coughing all over your dog. The dog before yours at the groomer. Or the one that's being dragged all around a local community day so that the 'rescuer' can tee up some interest or a bit of cash. Maybe by your neighbours who have adopted a fence jumping dog aggressive horror, a dog that they adopted in good faith that a 'rescuer' wouldn't put them and their family through hell. And then there's taking of your money. IF the 'Rescue/r' does not have fundraising approval. DO NOT deposit money into their bank account or one of those 'chip-in' things. Pay it to their vet, or directly to an account with a goods and service provider. Or you may as well just give someone travellers cheques for their next holiday. I don't blame anyone for unknowingly supporting a dodgey rescue they find on facebook. Because if they don't know what to look for and anything critical is blocked and deleted how could they know? So that's it all on the table for when you read what can sometimes be seen as a rather aggressive spanish inquisition.

I dont have a CFN I do have a go fund me which I was told is legal to use and if its clear you dont have tax deduction it would be fine is this not correct? I have only been able to speak to one member here in person and I did apologize and I think we patched it all up. I was going to start a post here but thought the members wouldnt want a cat fight and I just want to help dogs not fight with people over my stupidity. Its no excuse but I was convinced this forum was full of terrible people that I should hate especially silky and seniors but from all the research I have done and people I have talked to Silky and seniors is a top notch rescue. No SSR is more than just me and shouldn't take the blame for being unpopular in certain circles because of me. (and we are top notch btw lol) BUT me hell yes! : Anna Faulkner .Despised by dodgey rescue far and wide. GoFundme and Chip In etc, look they aren't exactly kosher. They just launder money and take their %. Completely legal at their end and they aren't the ones who get busted. If you are still in NSW check the Office Of Liquor and Gaming fundraising approval. It's not hard to get. Nothing to do with gift deductibility which you do not have to get if you don't want. I still think one thread would get it out and done. Say sorry, move on. I wouldn't have even noticed you if you hadn't started a dozen threads here, something didn't seem right. Like you were trying to catch up.
-
That's right, you did too Maddy. Dol always gets painted as unwelcoming which is not the case at all.
-
Honestly, you made a spectacular mess of your last go at Dol. You insulted a lot of really good people and it got really ugly. It's not that hard to work out who you are and I was waiting for you to say something on your own instead of starting new threads all over the place trying to rewrite history. Just front the one thread. Say sorry and move on. Maybe clarify how your new fundraising works because I can't see your CFN anywhere, this is important. Reputable groups don't get involved with iffy donations. I have no vested interest in you or your history by the way, for once I wasn't the one called a piece of shit on FB but a lot of other respectable people were.
-
Oh yes that is me not a large group or anything and unfortunately cant help as many dogs as others can but we try to do what we can Hang on, if you're Outback Anima Rescue, then your old petrescue profile belonged to Homes For Hounds aka greylvr. Who badmouthed DOL and also moved up to work in thePR kennels. So what exactly happened? Had a turnaround?
-
Maybe the fact that this is a dog forum and not a victim support group with dog people who have experienced stupid acts from the public in face of dogs can see outside of the square perhaps? Great attitude
-
A person at elevated pace (jogging) towards a dog and handler can alert a dog to threat switching the dog into defence drive is not uncommon. Had the innocent female jogger been a thug intending to assault the handler, the dog did it's job, unfortunately a mere dog may not discriminate against intent and see only someone quickly approaching and act accordingly whether it's genuine threat or not. For all we know the jogger may have been so close to the dog she was only millimetres from making contact herself, or......perhaps she stopped suddenly within millimetres of the dogs nose or ran into the dog who jumped directly upwards who knows? None the less, the dogs were still leashed, they were not at large which IMHO needs some extra scrutiny into how the incident unfolded as leashed dogs don't present highly due to the restraint factor in common attacks. Perhaps the jogger did something completely stupid being the reason the handler didn't offer much compassion and legged it to save his dogs......to me there is something not right or not disclosed regarding this incident with leashed dogs involved in attacks?? Who the hell cares. Owners are expected to own up for any and all behaviour in their dogs leashed or not. You are dragging this thread in circles and throwing in harebrained theories in an attempt to dissemble the facts. The victim is not at fault.

This poor owner and his two otherwise harmless (except for the face biting) dogs were suddenly set upon by a threatening female jogger. Who, despite all good sense and in full knowledge of dog behaviour made an informed decision not to run in a large circle around these dogs and incorrectly assumed that them being on lead with their owner and out in public meant that somehow they were safe to be in the vicinity of! She also made the mistake (so common in society today) of believing owners are responsible for their dogs and if they are reactive or nervy in any way, they don't take them to popular running tracks. So the poor dog lunged out of his owner's control and instead of covering her face the jogger did not take advantage of the split second she had to move away. Then having been bitten and frightening the dog owner by shouting and bleeding all over the place, he: understandably shaken, walked her to her car, gave her his favourite shirt to wrap her head with, then legged it.

Oh OK, you're looking for Pound Rounds franchises. Fair enough. From your posts in the urgent section I thought you were probably Outback Animal Rescue but you haven't really said.
