  1. Then please do everyone a favour and don't ask again if you're just going to be dismissive of the response. It's uncalled for and just plain petty. Oh get over yourself. Petty? You responded and I acknowledged in all honesty. The thread is going off topic and I honestly can't be bothered arguing with you and whoever else will pop in to defend you.
  2. Agree and dodgy is the word. I'd be contacting the Tenancy Tribunal, something's not right here. yep, especially as they would have known the whole time that a) you have inside dogs and b) they weren't going to allow you to keep them as such. Sounds like they deliberately didn't tell you until it was too late. Poor form.
  3. re new breeds: In my inexpert opinion that sounds like what the MDBA foundation registry does. Could be wrong.
  4. I don't really understand this. Judging foster carers and bemoaning them for saving lives is in the eye of the beholder? Come on. There's a difference between having an opinion and using that opinion to pretty much bully people because they're not someone's idea of "ethical." I'm not saying that is happening right here in this thread but that absolutely happens in the 'rescue world.' A lot. No. Not so long ago I would have. I've moved beyond that though and understand that the only one responsible for the death of that mother dog is the pound that kills her. People don't have to rescue at all. I don't much care what their reasons for rescuing are - only that they are rescuing and hopefully doing it well. Other than that, it's none of my business. That's the response I expected. Sorry Loreley, off topic.
  5. ^^ good advice. Even the basic inhouse pre-op bloods could be done before you decide on a full blood panel. Did your vet offer? Maybe he didn't explain the benefits. Sadly sometimes blood results aren't great but it's better to know as early as possible.
  6. Darren I've known you to be just as vehemently 'judgemental'. Adoption fees, the use of breed names, fundraising and marketing etc etc. You have the right to an opinion just like everybody else. But literally everyone thinks they are ethical anyway so yes, you'll get judgement everywhere. It's in the eye of the beholder apparently. Not everyone thinks that old dogs are worth the trouble but in my opinion they are. That's rescue. Hypothetically (but not really because it actually happened). Just on the topic of litters. Cat vs dog. What would you suggest to the rescuer who left behind a rather plain bullbreed/bullarab type female and took her babies, they used the same reasons carer/room/facilities/rehomeable. Mum was pts, pound was packed. Would you judge them? I'm struggling to understand the difference when there's hundreds of orphan kittens needing rescue anyway so that carer's spot could be easily filled and just as many lives saved.
  7. Cat rescue is so hard. But seeing the 'pretty' kittens picked out of litters leaving mum and the plain ones left behind does my head in. If dog rescuers did that they'd be hung, the excuse of numbers and only taking the ones seen as easily rehomeable is common justification. Sorry if I'm offending anyone (cat rescue is bloody hard) but leaving half a family to die doesn't sit right with me. edit-spelling
  8. Let me know what you find out :) I can't see which ones on FB have put the call out but I'm sure some of the far-away rural pounds will need something too.
  9. Oh good idea! Thanks LB I'll ask them what sizes they need. Just pulling everything out, there's more than I thought
  10. needs @22 July Large donation of winter bedding from Gillbear needs a lift from Central Coast to Harden NSW Harden and Cootamundra need wormers. Central Coast bedding still needs a lift PM Panto to give prepaid postpack donations and/or tracksuits for upcycling into coats -panto - Contacts: -Mixeduppup- -Ninahartland- Gillbear for central coast bedding pickup profile Thanks in advance --- A couple of tutorials on making simple jumpers from your old clothes. Doggies get cold too lots of photos and ideas
  11. Czzzy there's plenty of people in rescue who will ship a dog sight unseen to a home they don't know as long as the buyer pays for transport. If he wants to take a gamble like that then he just needs to keep looking.
  12. Anne is 100% right but clauses are shared around anyway. Should be top of the list of your rescue's policies if you want to control desexing, care conditions and adoption process. No sharing.
  13. Two weeks from when the dog leaves your care. Normally, form is signed, they give you the fee and take the dog. That's the beginning. Lots of people do 3 - 4 wks even though it's not in the regulations and would be a technical foul. You will need to have a list of registered carers. When a dog is processed out of impound the carer address goes in the 'address animal will be kept at' (it's not worded exactly that way but I can't be bothered getting a P1A form out) if you don't have carers then your own address goes there.
  14. So I assume this is new because when I phoned RSPCA about a rescue that never walked the dogs after I documented how often the dogs got our over a few week period and they said they had no rules on how often a caged dog needed to be walked. NSW code says 10 minutes twice a day is sufficient. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/agriculture/livestock/animal-welfare/codes
  15. Taking aside the dog-inexperience: what's wrong with taking a mature dog home from the pound?! Your comment about bringing home potential 'problems/illnesses' makes it sound like you should avoid pounds all together! Plenty of amazing, wonderful (and healthy!) mature dogs that need homes in pounds, so with advice and a steep learning curve there's nothing wrong with it! Yeh that is oddly written. Pound dogs are a great option for the right home. But I'm in agreement re logan not just trotting down to the pound and choosing a dog based on looks and age. There's more to life for a dog than just waiting around on the deck for you to get home.
  16. I have no clue what you are going on about with the greyhounds. The two I had when I was on this forum one was adopted and I am facebook friends with her and the dog is very spoiled and in a good home. The other one was also adopted and doing well how that is damaging the breed I do not know. Seems to me that in the last year a few more greyhound rescues have popped up and although they all seem to be full all the time it seems that a lot of greyhounds are being saved, I even referred someone to GAP to get a dog and they did and are very happy with their new dog. So you have me stumped on this one but if that is how you feel so be it I wont ever change your mind. I'll guess it has something to do with muzzles for a start. There was a thread last year where you were quoted from FB.
  17. Is this up to each rescue to decide or is there a recommended temp test that needs to be done? The rest is great and can live by them just wondering about this bit here. Hmm, not sure! They do have courses available but I haven't seen if there is temp test stuff. I'll email Julie, she can pop in and explain further. Honesty about temperament and/or special needs is a must but then again we all have different skills and knowledge. There's certain breeds or traits I have zero rehoming experience with (for example aussie working breeds) so wouldn't just take a rough guess, rather I would seek advice from those with expertise to help me assess a suitable home.
  18. Do you have a link :) http://www.mdba.net.au/ Being a member isn't the solution to everything but Julie is always there to help and as a rescue member, I find it gives people a little more confidence. If we did anything wrong by an adopter they could seek resolution via MDBA as a 3rd party. There isn't another org who does that as far as I know. Narga were trying to set up as some kind of national body but I don't want to know.
  19. The page is linked directly to the renbury site so it's kind of seen as 'official' I guess. It's not run independently like the ones who collect pledges, organise transport etc etc. Since the very beginning they've kept a lid on things like people saying they saw on another page that a dog was going to be safe. Plus the abuse re PTS and the FB arguments spectator sports that go on get cleaned up. But they happily discuss everything over the phone and don't hide stuff from genuine inquiries or rescue interest. They just don't let it get to where there's a 100 open debate comments on one dog which takes away from the other animals (and gets confusing if people are looking for accurate info).
  20. He's not going to be bred from and if he does have a chance at a working life he needs to be entire. There's no need to desex on principle particularly if the dog is still maturing. He owns entire dogs and always has without accident so I don't see why the dog needs an unnecessary procedure done. You may not see why, but a desex agreement is just that. A mutual agreement. DAS will sell you a dog if you agree to desex. They don't sell a dog if you don't agree. So if he's truly not going to be bred from and will physically benefit from hormones then a vasectomy would be simple enough instead of being one of those types who lies to the pound and feels they are above a rule that applies to everyone else.
  21. I don't see how there should be any difference if an agreement was signed and the dog was released in good faith. Rare breed or not, I don't like that the topic hasn't been addressed if the dog is available for rehoming entire. If he'd come out under rescue there would be a Dol meltdown about dogs being rehomed entire.
  22. Was a desexing agreement with DAS signed at purchase?
  23. You are correct, but I'm not critiquing the taking of dogs from long distance. Just arguing the fact that it can and should be done a whole lot better and cleaner. With more care for animal welfare, for where the dog ends up and a lot less risk of spreading something contagious all over the countryside. And your radar for responsible rescue had better be well and truly working when it's long distance, that includes the rescuer at the other end who as (given your experience) you must very well know, aren't always told exactly what they are getting.
