Ooooh a crestie! :) NSW has a fox rescue, they hand raise them from kits. But that's legal here. sorry I meant european not fennec!
-
Seriously want! Saw a doco on them They can hear their food scratching around underground with those ears!

Just like everything in life it depends on the home and the dog. People are clearly getting insulted but Jed is talking about her own puppies from what I can gather, she can choose whatever owners she wants for them.

Two Devon Rex Beauties -special Needs
_PL_ replied to yellowgirl's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
YG this is going to sound very vague but a few yrs ago a rex pair (the crinkly type lol) was left at a boarding facility for re-homing. They got in touch with either a club or a referral rescue service and they found a really nice rex-savvy home from their waiting list. If I can find what it was I'll PM but you might just have to goggle it. x eta (I see you already have pretty good coverage) :) example from google rex fanciers club SA rescue -
There's a lot of rescues that do that, they register them as greyX if they are not tattooed. That denial just boggles my mind. I may as well tell people my terrier crosses are pocket-pet safe and then act surprised when a few kid's pets get eaten.
-
I'm not sure why greys attract people who are so determined to ignore the prey drive factor. There's also the rescue who is/was(?) telling people their greys need no muzzle if they aren't tattooed.

Merry Christmas To All In Rescue
_PL_ replied to HazyWal's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Merry Christmas everyone, big hugs. Have a beautiful day with your doggies and families. (or just doggy family :D which is often the more peaceful alternative) And for those who have had a fairly average year... here's to a new 2014 Wishing you all the best. xxx Anna -
Halfway through listening to the podcast, it's fantastic Judi, I'll be recommending our puppy applicants check it out. Anyone with time over the holidays.... (podcast is at the bottom) linky

Like I said Mita, I'm poking fun at this 'study'. With a little attention grabbing (slow news day) article and no web link to the results and snippets of interpretive quotes from a professor. Study might be a great piece of science but who knows? I feel slightly stupider after reading that faff.

Jesus, dogs are dogs! They all have their moments, and owners who overindulge & under-train aren't limited to little breeds. Lets go further... do research on Big Dog Syndrome. Balance out the results by testing for: counter-surfing, full stretch bed hogging, ability to clear a coffee table with a single wag, the lean in for a hug by nearly pushing you over, presentation of the soaked tennis ball in the middle of your lap or dinner plate, the room-emptying silent farts, their notion that they are in fact lapdogs and their artistic side: Pollock inspired snot and slobber paintings on the inside of the car. Yes I'm making fun of the study and can't be bothered looking up exactly which the 36 undesirable behaviours were included.

Dog From Pound With Exposure To Parvovirus
_PL_ replied to Mangoe's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If he didn't have a microchip I'd say it's more likely he didn't get his puppy vaccinations. Fingers crossed. -
edit re the pitfalls of buying power. Sorry Anne, missed your post above. Like PP. The franchisees could only buy from the one company, this company with it's promised buying power was also owned by their franchisor. He held their contracts, told them the rules and got his profit at both ends. Then it all fell over.

We're on that list! :D AND we have puppies, they are on the website as 'Sabrina's Story'. edited because I'm a nitwit and have updated the page now too Sabrina and Puppies Home page Inner West Sydney NSW

God I hate fleas. Had the same thing one year and switched flea treatments around until I found one they weren't resistant to. This year it's advantage. Next year it will be something different I'm sure. I've got wooden floorboards so mopped with eucalyptus or lavender instead of bombing (Takes about 2 weeks for the bomb to interfere with their breeding cycle so if you only did it recently don't stress). Last thing was to clear them from the back yard. Get food grade diatomaceous earth from a produce store and dust the whole yard (natural but terribly messy!) because I didn't want to use Coopex but you could try that first (water soluble version) if you don't want the yard to look like a weird snowstorm and have dust tracked in. :)

Rspca Withdraws Cruelty Charges Against Kim Hollingsworth
_PL_ replied to Aphra's topic in In The News
Just a question (I don't know much about the case), are the horses ever rehomed or do they just live there forever? I heard the number 200, surely that can't be right -
Our First Ever Foster Dog - The Final Update
_PL_ replied to Michelleva's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
You have a new permanent family member I think  Merry Christmas Bonnie -
And again. Our e-news is for adopters and supporters not your moles. Piss off. btw none of this is directed at muttrus who started this thread ages ago. I refer directly to someone who reads DOL avidly in case her name is mentioned. I'm talking about one specific "rescuer" (in the broadest sense of the word) who cannot move on with her life. Fact is, if this crazy with a busted moral compass has refused to let go it's her own issue. But it wastes my time and it's clearly a sickness. She needs to get help.

$1000 buys a lot of parvac for a rescue and it's volunteers to work with council on an incoming dogs vaccine trial.
-
Yep, it can work when everyone is on the same page. And I'd have to state the obvious: when a rescuer spends two days navigating a long distance rescue and making room before they commit: then find the dog has been taken in a wholesale grabathon by someone who refuses to work with others, frankly after a few wasted attempts you just get fed up and go elsewhere. Kenreb, I'd like to believe that you are just mislead instead of deliberately accepting the dogs in your pound be collateral damage in your agenda. If you'd been around longer than 5 minutes and had a little humility you'd be able to see what a disaster you've created. And now we have a pound who has effectively fallen off the map because you wanted monopoly. Parvo apparently rife in the community and pound... so no ethical rescue will put dogs on private transport without quarantine. If you aren't offering local help so how do you propose anyone get dogs out? Don't blame others for dead dogs, from the outside.....this has been %100 your own doing. But maybe they aren't supposed to get out, that would certainly give you leverage as the one and only griffith rescue.
