  1. Enjoy watching the footy tonight snuggled up with Mac, I take it he's a Crows supporter?
  2. What a dear little soul, it's made my day that the little guy was saved and will be going somewhere safe to live out his retirement years. How are the Westies holding up with an intruder in the mix WM?
  3. Good girl Poppy for helping Amber to eat. (I do this with my two when one won't eat a worming tablet hidden in something)
  4. Fingers and paws crossed she will be okay Jules, hopefully in a few days she'll be back to her usual self.
  5. I'm so sorry to hear that, sometimes we just don't get enough time with them
  6. It's nice when they have good days Waggy, and I think the sun (when it finally gets here) helps them a bit as well, warms up their old bones and gives them a bit of a spring in their step.
  7. It's a hard question, and I think it's an individual thing. Quality of life, how you feel she is in general, she is eating which is a good thing, sometimes you know because the life has gone from their eyes, it's a difficult thing to describe, and every dog is different. Such a hard decision to make isn't it? Has your vet given an indication on how she is health wise? I'm having that same dilemma with my old boy, who is 16, almost 17. He's mostly deaf, eats well to the point of being food obsessed, but iI can't keep any weight on him at all, he is getting bony all over, especially his head, I think the vet said that is just old age. And his back legs go out from under him at times, hes a bit wobbly, and he can't hold his bladder for very long. And now occasionally he just pees wherever he is standing, I don't know if that's bladder incontinence or a form of dementia. He can't be left alone, or he gets a bit frantic, he has to be with you all the time, which is really hard, he even has to come into the bathroom when I shower. But there are other times when he quite happily trots along to get his food and wags his tail. It's so hard. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your post, I just needed to tell my story as well.
  8. Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions, gotta love DOL for great info. :D I'll grab the one Snook recommended as it's just down the road from me, but if it doesn't get rid of the smell, then I've got more suggestions to try out. It'd be much easier if they used the pet loo I bought them, but no. Difficult bluddy dogs.
  9. I rang my local horse feed place, which is a 3 minute drive and they have some in stock. That;'s where I'll be headed on Thursday.
  10. I don't have one of those, but very handy to know TSD. :D
  11. Thanks Snook, I'll see if my local place can order some in. Fruity sounds nice, much better than dog pee for sure. :D
  12. Okay, I have a unit with a very small paved courtyard (tiny) and have tried a pet loo but the dogs (10 and 16) won't use it, they just pee on the pavers. I tried a piece of fake grass on top of the pavers but that just stank after a month (even with regular washing, so I ditched it) Anyway, I've been using a bucket of water each time they pee to dilute the urine and it runs down into a drain (i'ts on a slight slope) I've been using a household disinfectant to scrub the whole area twice a week with a stiff broom as well, which has worked so far. BUT, now the weather is warming up and I can smell pee. What do people use on their concrete/pavers if they have dog runs to get rid of the smell? My old boy pees a lot lately, and I can't take him for a walk 10 times a day for him to pee down the street. Obviously people with dog runs and boarding kennels have to use something? Tell me your secret. I don't wanna smell pee anymore, and after yesterdays sunshine, geezus.
  13. An 8 year old might have had no experience with dogs, still a child, and probably saw the dogs nose sticking out under the fence and went for a pat. This is the fence apparently, there is a communal footpath, that's where the kids were playing supervised by an adult, but 6 kids all playing are hard to keep track of no doubt. And the blurb for those who can't access the link
  14. Poor kid, losing a hand. Very sad situation all round.
  15. What a beautiful dog, could you not build a fence, or at least a dog run for him? It would be awful to rehome him over something that seems easily fixable.
  16. Oh great news for Pudding, and look at Rupert, he looks totally innocent of any wrong doing.
  17. Everything crossed that Pudding pulls through, and don't beat yourself up over it, we all make mistakes, accidents happen and dogs will eat rotten things.
  18. that's Jolie. I'm assuming she was safe inside with her babies since she wasn't mentioned. ah, that's it, thanks Kirislin.
  19. Oh gosh, how very scary for you all, fingers and paws crossed that they all pull through okay. Is the mum who had the pups recently okay? (sorry, I can't remember her name) Dogs do find the most disgusting things to eat don't they.
  20. Mac Attack breath, I has me one of those as well WM.
  21. Some puppies can really test you, and some are just very easy going/trainable, a bit like babies I guess, they are all very different and it will take a little while to get to know each other and figure out what works for you both. It's great you are getting some professional help, it really does make all the difference. I'd had dogs for 20 years and just assumed I knew what I was doing, but 45 minutes with a really good trainer and I was set straight and never looked back. I'm sure I could do with more lessons.
  22. Gorgeous photo of the all the westies and honorary westies. Glad it went down well, a lovely memory to cherish.
