  1. Something I've been musing on for a while now. I have a breeder who I really like and have got to know for a while now(not a member on this site). They have lovely dogs which do well in conformation, etc but I just have a feeling they aren't the right style within the breed for what I'm looking for. I've had my eye on dogs from a few other breeders, been watching their progress, etc and have an idea of where i would like to look when I'm ready for my next dog but I know that the breeder friend of mine isn't fond of one of these breeders in particular for their own reasons. So I'm feeling a little in a bind, I think their dogs are lovely but they aren't what i want and if I do get a dog from someone else, particularly if it's the breeder they doesn't like(who has actually offered me a pup in the past but the timing was bad) are they going to feel like it's an insult to their dogs(which it certainly wouldn't be meant as, theirs are lovely)... Sigh, makes me wish it was a totally different breed! So if any one can advise how best to sensitively approach this situation I'd really appreciate it. A lot of the breeders I've been considering have recently had litters and won't have another for a while and it's likely that I'll need to start seriously considering my options and talking to breeders if I want to get the sort of pup I'm after in the next 18 month ish.
  2. Nah it was a little while ago so would have drpped off the first few pages by now, wasn't having a go at you for posting another thread I promise :) Any excuse to talk about golden oldies with new found loves is good with me :D
  3. In theory it would be OK for short trips on a cold day(no worse than some of those crappy set ups you see on utes in that regard!) but for anything more would have needed some more ventilation added and some insulation at least. In terms of design it was a dog trailer, 4 berth, internal dividers, etc, just not the level of comfort and suitability for all weather that most showies need. As I said, it's similiar stuff to what I'm doing on the caravan I'm repairing so if you were good at DIY you could have fixed it up relatively cheap.
  4. This one was pretty old and basic SS as the price suggested, definitely would have needed some hard work to make it suitable for serious use as a dog trailer but as I said I've never transported my dogs in a trailer anyway, they always travel in the car with us(even wet and stinky LOL) and the gear travels in the trailer which is what I would more likely have used this for. I have two medium- largish size dogs now and could easily fit two more in the back of my car(as it is I load half the boot with gear and my dogs travel in the other half) so i see no real reason why I would need to put my dogs in a trailer. If we stop I either take the dogs out or I open the very large boot back(top opens right up and bottom folds down flat to the full height and width of the car interior) and the dogs simply sit in there within my line of sight.
  5. I had a thread not long ago about exactly the same thing! My kelpie is 9 and has only recently discovered them!
  6. Certainly worked for us trifecta, it was what the vet told us to use. The mange was beginning to clear within a week(she was 8 weeks old at the time) and she's nearly 10 now and has never had a recurrence of any sort. Vet said frontline spot on was no good for mange but a good soaking with the frontline spray would treat it which it did.
  7. By soaking with frontline I meant a good spray all over with frontline spray so that the whole body is damp.
  8. It's sold by the looks. I personally was considering it just to carry gear, my dogs travel in the car anyway and I like I that way. I'm half way through fixing up a very large caravan taking it from a $1000 piece of junk to it's former glory and worth probably well over $10,000 and will have spent less than $800 to do so, so in my mind it was a frame to be built on only. I wouldn't have used it as is for dogs, would have been basically a camping storage van which is how my parents use their dog trailer.
  9. Find out what it is and call the companies advice line. I use glyphosate a lot around my place and just keep animals away from that area for a couple of days but it's impossible to say without knowing what it is.
  10. In an ideal worls I agree that they are best done but not until older, however in a realistic world where more than enough morons with no clue how to properly manage their dogs around I think it's a catch 22 where some are probably better desexed early before that rush of hormones hits...
  11. Oh no I wouldn't have used collapsible crates on the plane, was referring to when we travel the other way via car :)
  12. Doesn't take much to add more whirly gigs and some vents if you wanted though. Show trailers go for thousands so it's be a cheap base for someone with some DIY nouse. I did check with him and he said the only things needed for roadworthy and mudguards, I replaced the mudguards and did the wiring on ours for under $150 for heavy duty mudguards
  13. Hope this is OK to post but someone on my local buy and sell on facebook is selling a 4 berth dog trailer for $450. Not registered and needs lights and mudguards done. Not the ritz of trailers but looks in decent condition for someone willing to maybe spend $150 to fix it. If anyone wants a link let me know.
  14. Thanks Wayrod so is that $480 the accompanied price or unaccompanied with crate hire?
  15. Just a thought but for now could you help her make a little pair of pants for her girl out of a pair of small undies(hole cut for tail) and some sanitary pads so that at least she can keep her girl clean to start with and also reduce the chance of a male dog managing to get to her, I imagine it would be hard to find a safe place for her where she can be kept completely away from other dogs in her situation.
  16. Cazstaff print this page out and give it to your friend. Any of these groups can give her a referral letter to Pets in the Park for assistance with free vet treatment. :) http://admin.petsinthepark.org.au/forms/List_Of_Referral_Services.pdf
  17. https://www.facebook.com/petsinthepark.au There is pets in the park that do smaller vet needs but they may be able to recommend somewhere for desexing :)
  18. I'm sure I've heard of an organisation that helps with desexing for homeless peoples dogs.
  19. Thanks for all the tips guys! I'll definitely look in to that crate exchange thingy, if we travel with crates I'd rather travel with collapsible ones so would use airline crates to get over, ditch those and use the collapsibles while travelling. We'll be going out of Sydney so there's a fair chance someone might need a crate or two returned. :)
  20. I was just looking at my new bag tonight thinking the kibble looked slightly different, anyone else noticed anything?
  21. You made a hard decision but it was the right one for those wee little ones. You and Reba have done so well to come through this and although it doesn't take away the pain of losing these two precious souls I am glad that you and Reba still have your three others to hold in your arms(paws) as some comfort, you should both be very proud of the way you have come through the past weeks.
  22. Another one to try is Kirkland brand if you have a Costco where you are, $49 for 16kg and apparently the same product as Taste of the Wild. Gets really good feedback.
  23. Does wayrod do other states as well or just in/out of tulla?
  24. Thanks M, so if you were flying too it would just be $135 on top of your ticket, does that exclude crate hire? I'd probably buy crates any way as we would be travelling back by road so it would be easier to have crates to put them in for the travel.
