  1. I've just been informed that if numbers can be got we can run a tracking workshop in Nowra in the near future. No date at this stage, need interest first. Please message me if you might be interested. Other possibilities are show training and other dog sports such as dock diving, rally-o and dancing with dogs. Please let me know straight away if any of these are of interest, we need to show that there are enough numbers to make it feasible to get it organised :D
  2. Is anyone in a position to assist a large breed dog who is pregnant(due early april), owners are moving and she is in danger of going to the pound(and she's not got much weight on her as it is ). She's a pretty tan girl, dane/mastiff/wolfy, slimmer tending towards the dane/wolfy I think, like a scruffy dane. She is located very close to me and I am happy to get her and hold her for now as long as she gets along with mine but can't have a heap of extra puppies here, can go part way towards Canberra or Sydney if it helps anyone.
  3. Well someone sent the owner a message to check if she was one of her dobes and was basically told to mind her own business. If there is a rescue that could possibly take on this girl and then go from there trying to contact the breeder it would probably be the only way.
  4. Oh damn T I didn't think of that, good point about a false positive!
  5. If you do come to suspect it could be a light dose of parvo can I suggest getting him tested just to be sure. At least that way even if he is fine if he has got parvo you will know not to allow others on to the property with young/unvaccinated dogs.
  6. Do you have a link? If so I'll share it on the gossip facebook page in case that helps get the breeder in touch
  7. Did the wildlife shelter apply for a grant Alpha Bet? I only ask because the government doesn't just willy nilly look for people to hand out grants to, the organisations apply for them.
  8. Images of his face need to be spread far and wide so everyone knows what he did, if he can't get a proper ruling under the law at least he'll have the disgust of the majority of the public. I hope he finds it near on impossible to find work or even walk down the street, it would serve him right!
  9. How did you go RSA? I'm hoping to get an early start tomorrow to get to Sydney and it might be evening by the time we come home as I'm going to visit my baby nephew who is in hospital after major surgery and my mum has come up from Melbourne to visit with my brother's family so we want to make the most of the day. :)
  10. No, your husband of course, it was his dog after all.
  11. Very hard We've lost a few over the years but we always bury them with a plant on top and I explain to the kids that s/he has died and can't be with us any more but that his/her body will go in to the ground to help our garden grow more beautiful and when we look out at the flowers we'll know they are still helping. Our most recent loss was our very loved cat alley and she has a lime tree planted on her, that tree is so lovely and lush and grows amazing limes and we still thank Alley for sending us the limes. :)
  12. If you were at a crossing and a car didn't stop then the driver of the car is at fault but if you are driving and someone runs in front of your car and you had no reasonable ability to stop then it is deemed to be an accident and the driver can be cleared of fault. In this case I would think that a crossing would be the equivalent of an ON lead area, in this case it occurred in an area where dogs were reasonably allowed to be off lead and was purely an accident. I see your point about loss of income, etc but this is why you have things like income protection insurance, especially if you are paying a mortgage or similar, sometimes accidents happen and they aren't really anyone's fault, my mum tripped over a paver in her yard a couple of weeks ago and broke a wrist, ribs, cut her head open and sprained the other wrist, she's off work because she can't type, etc. Maybe she could sue the person who lay the pavers...
  13. That would be great :) They weren't doing dogs for quite a while due to a bad experience with someone who took them to court(through no fault of theirs) but have fairly recently started taking them on again so any dog stuff would be very helpful. :)
  14. RSA I am friends with the lady down here who co-ordinates the AWL animals for the Shoalhaven area. She works her butt off and most of it comes out of her own pocket, she works hard for a lot of the more needy cases too. I'm sure she would love any bits and pieces if you are willing so she could distribute them to her few foster carers. It sounds like I may be heading up to Sydney on Saturday morning early returning that night if it suited.
  15. My girlies. They love a trip to the beach :)
  16. Yes I agree. People are often surprised when I happily grab their dog too for a walk and walk all three together in one hand. My dogs are easy going though, if they were all like that I could walk three in each hand happily. :)
  17. Scratch that question found the prices :) Anyone going?
  18. We are heading to Canberra tomorrow and thinking we might detour via Braidwood to have a look at the doggies :) Wondering whether anyone will be there and also if anyone knows what the entry prices are, googled but can't find them. :)
  19. LOL I love that photo, I'd love a pack of bassets one day, all fully trained for trailing, would be awesome!
  20. At the moment I could do three quite happily as long as they got along with our current girls. When we build on our property and I have options to separate dogs for training etc then I'd be happy with 5 or 6
  21. I think it really is going to come down to what they need the dog to do. My son is a similar age but for us the primary need is simply for the dog to be there and be attached to his hand LOL, so good training and the ability to work nicely in public are all we need to deal with. It sounds like they would also benefit from a dog that can alert to them to trouble if he were to have an anaphylactic episode or other such issues so it would be better in that case to have a dog trained for them.
  22. I looked at them as an option for us but neither are breeds I could live with due to the high shedding. There's another group in NSW who train various breeds but can't think of their name right now.
  23. I agree with testing him with dog breeds if possible, my basset doesn't cause any reaction with me at all but my kelpie does cause a mild if she is blowing her coat and I don't strip it out and JRTs and labs make me sneeze and itch as do some cocker spaniels.
  24. I schedule everything for standard, easy to remember times. Anything that is 3 monthly such as worming gets done at the start of each season, Anything monthly gets done on the first of the month and anything yearly gets done at the start of the year.
