  1. I own 3 pure bred rescue dogs & 2 mutts. I love them all.
  2. This is my little dog Hope. She was brought from a pet store (not by me) as a staffy X mini foxy (but we think there might also be dachshund in there). She is about JRT size. She was full on for her first 2 years but has matured into a nice little dog (unless there are chickens around, lol).
  3. So sorry for your loss. Rest easy beautiful girl.
  4. I think I've read somewhere that it is called Advocate Plus in the USA but as far as I know it is the same product. It constantly amazes me how so many find it so difficult to work out which product does what. I guess its the same as trying to explain to some people that microchips & council rego are 2 different things. I can understand your frustration. for staying so calm.
  5. I think people in general are becoming more dirty (or feral as I've heard it described). Not only do more people leave dog poo around but also rubbish of all description sometimes despite a bin being nearby. At least (if there is a good side to it) poo is biodegradable not like all the smashed glass or baby nappies or fast food packages, etc left lying everywhere. I really dispair about what we are turning into at times.
  6. I was out walking my dogs a week or so ago when we meet a fellar with a young tan rough coated Lab type dog with a red nose. I asked he he was a Golden x with an Am Staff but was told he was a rare pure bred short coated Golden Ret. I have a small cross breed dog that is black & tan. She is about the size of a JRT. Yep, I get does she have Doberman in her & Oh look a sausage dog.
  7. I'm certain he didn't come to us. From memory the only male we got out of HP was white & fawn plus I get HP to M/C in our name. Sorry this is causing you so many problems. Rescue doesn't need issues like this putting people off helping.
  8. We have similar problems adopting out older greyhounds. I'm not sure if it's because people often think large dogs don't live that long. Pity really because I'd take an older dog over a young one any day.
  9. Correct post surgery care is important so we only have our dogs with specialised carers until the stitches come out. It works well for us & probably saves us a lot of trouble in the long run. It does sometimes make the whole process slow because we can only take dogs if there is a one available.
  10. I have owned 6 dogs in the past - currently own 5. They are 3 greyhounds (14 & 2 x 12 & 1/2)plus 2 small dogs (JRX 11 & small mixed breed 6yrs). They all get along great & all live in the house. I never feel any are mising out on attention. 4 would probly be my ideal number because we have a small home but I keep hearing about old dogs needing homes & can't help myself. I'm trying very hard ATM not to bring home number 6.
  11. They are just too cute! Wishing them & everyone a Happy Easter too.
  12. She could have got a fright while in there one night. It might not have been something you were aware of but it caused her fear that she could not escape so now she doesn't like the crate. If she is fine just sleeping in the lounge I'd leave her there. You could leave the door of the crate open & after a while she might return to it if she knows she can leave anytime she wants.
  13. Dog owner I'm so sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you. I also own 2 little terriers who would act the same way if they ever got the oppitunity, luckily to date they haven't. What I do know is that they can't open gates & they can't get through secure fences. If these chooks had been in a secure yard this wouldn't have happened. Surely it is your responsibility if you own ANY animals to keep them as safe as you possibly can? Too often I see animals kept in very insecure yards whose owners are the first to scream out when something happens.
  14. I had an old greyhound with an ongoing neck problem & I found that the only thing she respomded to was Previcox. After an intial course I just needed to give it to her for a couple of days at the first sign of pain. It made a huge difference to her quality of life. I now own 3 old greyhounds (one 14 & 2 12 & 1/2) & managing pain & discomfort makes all the difference.
  15. This is so my life! Dogmad you are not alone, we may be few but we are out here.
  16. Four years ago my son dumped his dog on us. It took me a long time to bond with her but she stayed because she was great friends with my other little dog. I did try to rehome her early on but Jack was just so sad that she was gone that when she bounced I knew she was meant to live with us & I started to try to form a connection with her. Now I do love her & she will live out her life with us but it did take time & work on my part. If the 2 dogs are great friends I couldn't seperate them after all these months especially as there isn't any issues with her.
  17. We always take the dog back for whatever reason & sometimes it is hard undoing the damage done to the dog by stupid owners. It just makes us try harder next time.
  18. I'm so sorry to hear this. Having a love of the oldies myself I always enjoyed reading about Tammy & she was one of my favorites on DOL. RIP Tammy. Thank you Caz for giving her the best years of her life.
  19. I don't know or care anything about the politics involved but I'm based in Melbourne (& have more than enough dogs down here) & I've been tempted to rescue the odd dog of my prefered breed (greyhounds) because of the tread on DOL from Hawkesbury pound. I don't go onto F/B so would never see them on there. I guess that if all dogs are finding rescue through other means then great but if some are missing out because there is no DOL thread (for whatever reason) then that is a real shame.
  20. I'm not on Facebook (though I do get phone calls from people who are) but I usually check to urgent section on DOL to see what is in need of rescue. Then it just depends on if I can help them. I'm glad that this weeks lot are all hopefully safe.
  21. Can anyone tell me what has happened to the Hawkesbury pound thread in the urgent section? There isn't one for this week despite the fact I've heard of some dogs in urgent need. Thanks.
  22. Happy Gotcha Day, Zero. What a wonderful vid. I want one, lol.
