  1. No licking here, although Asya still tries. I have to admit I do blow kisses into their muzzle which they endure with closed eyes, that seems to be different
  2. I have heard similar stories from folk who've had a dog maim or kill another one of theirs. Under those circumstances it would be hard to feel the same about a dog I think. I have no doubt that my Labrador would maim or kill my Rotti/Pittie cross if they were ever to be allowed to get into a scrap again. They both stll bear the scars from their last fight a few years ago, which is a constant reminder to me of why they are separated. On the other hand, I couldn't rehome either of them either - as I know exactly what they are capable of if triggered off. Good thing I love them both to death and can manage to keep them here and keep them separate... but don't think all those evil thoughts about one or both of them didn't cross my mind after the last fight they had... T. To be honest if the vet would have done it she would have been pts on the day of the attack. I tried to get past it but it was a totally unprovoked attack on a gorgeous gentle oldie. I found it impossible to forgive her and after much thought and soul searching rehomed her as an only dog. I have a friend who had a terrible incident where a strange bitch got into the whelping room and killed the newborn puppies. I really wish she had rehomed this dog. It was fed and got the care needed but it was never forgiven. She could have been someone's loved pet as she was a lovely dog.
  3. Yes. I had a bitch that initiated an attack on my gorgeous oldie Kayla who was asleep on her bed, she had over 100 stitches. I rehomed her to a single dog home
  4. Thanks Zeebie. Cowan was fed exclusively via a feeding tube direct to the stomach for a number of mths, it took 5mths before he was eating 100% by mouth. It was a real experience, in a lot of ways easier than what we do now but I was of the understanding that it wasn't an option long term as certainly in Cowan's case he started to have issues with tube insertion site. His issue is not so much a stricture as scarring from his stomach acid as a result of extremely long operations to fix a blockage and then peritonitis. Not a nice experience, it was a really tough journey. I have looked at where they insert a balloon and pump it up slowly to enlarge his throat but it requires repeated operations and each operation is a 16hr round trip. Even then it apparently isn't permanent so I have decided given his age (12yrs) to manage it as best I can. It is a lot of work and can be a bit stressful but he is worth it.
  5. Asya is extremely grovelly and does the submissive cower with eye shuts a lot. I bred her and know she has never had as much as a smack in her life but people would think she was abused and has been beaten. Her mother who I brought in as an older dog used to do the same thing
  6. Is this totally smooth with no lumps? It doesn't have texture? May be an option
  7. I had to use the likes of AD when he was in his recovery period and he won't even look at that type of food now. Might be an option to add a little to his blend though
  8. I have a sheltie that due to a oesophageal stricture can only eat liquids. I have managed him for 3 years and once we got into the swing of things it has been fine. I have been having some issues lately as he doesn't want to eat the food he has been on previously which is dry food soaked and then blended into a liquid in the morning and raw meat, normally lamb also blended with water at night. To get some of these to blend into something liquid I have to add quite a bit of water. He has never been overly food orientated and the sheer volume he has to eat is causing some issues. He is not eating full meals and has lost weight. I am looking for ideas as to what I can add to his meals that will keep the weight on and enable me to reduce to quantity he has to eat. I was thinking protein powder but not sure if that is a good idea or not as I need his diet to be balanced
  9. I have a similar clause in mine but have also added a sentence re buy back value after my friend sold a puppy and they decided to on sell it for a higher amount 3mths down the track.
  10. Some of my favourites are: Devon Cowan Payton Sterling Steele Munro Smith
  11. So did I, measurements are the same. Is it bigger or smaller, mine hasn't arrived yet
  12. Mine has arrived so very quick. The Isqueak lasted about 5 minutes before I accidentally threw it over the fence into the neighbours yard. Hopefully I will be able to get it back. Would love to do another order but am feeling slightly guilty about the free postage which just about cost the company more than my order.
  13. I have never been a great dog park fan but the last time I ever visited one confirmed it for me. I had my shelties over in the far corner of the park, well away from the any other dogs and was playing ball with them. One man kept letting his large breed dog run right across the park towards them so I had to keep putting them on lead which I would have though was a clear sign I didn't want his dog running up to me. I asked him politely to stop doing that and he proceeded to tell me that I shouldn't be at a dog park if my dogs didn't want to play and then his dog lunged at my dog who slipped his lead and then proceeded to chase my poor sheltie right on to a busy main road. The worst part of it was once I managed to get my dog and was trying to walk him back across the park to the car he still let his dog come running up to mine and when I lost the plot and yelled at him he said he was going to report me. Apparently the fact that he travelled all the way across town to come to this dog park where he could have a good run and lay gave him more rights than me.
  14. How long do they normally do free shipping for? Have order some now but would love to do another order next pay
  15. Have you scanned her? My old boy Cowan had a partial bowel obstruction that produced very similar results. It went on for nearly 3mths before we found out what it was even after extensive tests. He would go off his food and vomit and then be ok for a few days. During the entire 3mth period he was never quite right but there were periods where he was ok. Because it was only a partial obstruction (tumour) things would build up and after a period clear again. He always had normal stools. He had been x-rayed and had the small bead test to check for an obstruction and because it was only partial neither picked it up. In his case I decided to do exploratory surgery on the understanding that if nothing was found he would be let go on the table. He was 9 1/2 so a bit younger than your girl and he is sitting at my feet nearly 3years later.
  16. How does it hold up chewing wise? Nova pops tennis balls in a single game of fetch
  17. I have done it when my Aussie Reeve passed away unexpectedly. I wanted answers and sending him to the university for autopsy was my only chance of getting them. It was a bit tough but he was cremated afterwards and returned.
  18. When I am looking for a puppy price is one of the last things I consider. Of far more importance is what health testing has the breeder done, what sort of temperaments do they produce and how are their puppies raised. The purchase price is a one off cost while the other criteria's will affect the puppy throughout its life. For a breed such as a beagle I would expect to pay anywhere between 800-1,200 for a well bred, well socialised puppy from a reputable breeder
  19. If I was ignoring the topline issue I would pick puppy 1 as he has the better front. Puppy 2 doesn't appear to have a straight front, slightly east west and in my experience this is not an issue that gets better - in my breed anyhow. Puppy 1s topline could very well be the way he is stacked, would watch him on the ground standing naturally
  20. So sorry to hear the news, it is never easy to lose them. Hugs from all the shelties at Airam
  21. Some good ideas. We have a new manager and he is wanting to make some changes which is great. He is already underway with a dog park and wants some other ideas. Great to see HA, what sort of educational resources?
  22. I have been asked by our local council for some ideas as to what Council can do for dog owners so I am looking for some ideas. What does your local council do or what would you like to see them do? They are considering a dog park as one idea, what do you like and dislike about your local one - other than uncontrolled dogs of course. I have a few ideas of my own such as low cost desexing but would love some new ones
  23. Personally I have had some shocking experiences at kennels and would far prefer my dogs stay home in their own home. Owning shelties I am very aware of things such as dogs escaping so my property is very securely fenced, front and back and the dogs are only allowed in the back area so very little chance of escaping as they woudl have to get through multiple doors and fences. I don't permit them to walk them and would only allow them off the property in a case of an emergency which far reduces the chances of any issues arising. I also find my sitters by word of mouth and have never had any issues with them doing exactly what I want. Mind you I leave an entire folder of instructions and phone every day. There has been the occasional issue but it is normally one of the dogs misbehaving and I have friends I can call on to intervene in that instance.
  24. I think there may be a breed tendancy but they are all individuals. The majority of my shelties love food to the point their food bowl is clean before it hits the ground yet I have a 1 male and his daughter who can take or leave it, quite often miss a meal.
