  1. I have all their books JackieW It is something I haven't heard before that's why I thought I would "throw'' it out there to pick other people's thoughts
  2. just wondering about your thoughts about protein % levels and behaviour in dogs. I have a 3 yr old male Gsd who has a high to very high level of reactivety who is fed raw meaty bones as his diet. I have been chatting to a friend a FB about this and she mentioned lowering his protein levels to help calm him down Thoughts??????????????????????
  3. not a conformation brag, but an Adelaide Royal brag all the same My sheppie girls competed in rally obedience, held for the first time at the Adelaide Royal... they both passed each of their two classes, Tasha winning both classes and Seven coming a close second in both too
  4. GOOD LUCK to everyone competing
  5. if all animals could leave with the love that is in your heart & home......................
  6. Hugs to you both Jules I know what I am about to say sounds odd, however, I have always felt it is a honour to be beside my animals at that moment they pass over We greet them with love when they arrive in this world, it is only right & fair that we are there with them, with love when they leave Love light & peace Jules
  7. I find it ironic, when a highly trained/titled obedience dog who performs perfect recalls in a controlled environment of the trial ring, can not do a basic recall in the real world..............
  8. Another one for Dr Douglas though my experience with him was 20 years ago now (maybe abit more) I was doing agility with my cardigan corgi, Mitch, when he got the landing all wrong after the spread jump (back then it was huge) and he hyper-extended his neck Took him to the vet a couple of days latter, as he was extremely stiff through the neck/back and they placed him on anti-inflammatries, which of course worked by masking the pain, which meant he was back to running around. Back to the vet to look at other options and they recommended Ian, who back then was working out of the Birdwood Clinic. No such thing as MRIs back then, though the X-ray showed the damage to Mitch's spine and fenisration (sp) was recommended............... We were quoted....from memory....$1500 or there abouts. We talked about our options, as Mitch was still a young dog 5 maybe 6 and very fit and he was my Mum's dog too! Mitch went on to live till he was 16..............for us it was well worth the money.
  9. some amazing results.........WELL DONE to you both CC and to the gorgeous Rory
  10. For me, it would be time to think about that power we have to give our furred family the wings to soar away from pain and frustration ..to leave broken bodies behind ... I have been hesitating to say something similar as I couldn't find the words. I to have been there and done that. One of the hardest things ever. Take care, you are not alone I concur too I have been thinking about you Ness and your gorgeous girl over the last fews weeks and been thinking about "what if it was me".............. We may have to let that beautiful free spirited mind free of her broken body and let her soar free...................... Just know that though you may feel very alone atm, there is a whole community right behind you and will support you. Love light and peace
  11. been a week and haven't heard back from Barossa Council, yet. It has given us time to get out and visit our new neighbours, one side has two rescue beagles and joking asked whether I would be able to help train her beagles The other side didn't even blink when we mentioned 3 Gsds, they were more relieved that we were going to be living in the house and not renting it out Settlement got moved back to this week sometime as the vendor ( who wanted a quick turn around) has had issues with their bank Mrs Rusty Bucket......don't have a cute puppy, though we did make it clear to come and talk to us first, that we are approachable and responsible with our dogs. Oh and I also got our vet in Tassie from the past 8 years to e-mail a reference too..................
  12. breathe, take a moment to READ the signs and have fun
  13. Thanks everyone Jules... we moved back in july last year, we had planned on only staying with our friend a few months, we were about to sign a contract on another house in Lyndoch back in Sept, but with the Olympic Dam expansion falling through, the flow on effect meant the Mike had to leave the job he was at as contracts had stopped and we had to pull out of signing on the dotted line We both found work, but the banks weren't real keen on leanding $$ to us as we had only just started new jobs and most want at least 12 months working history............ We can never thank our friend enough who opened his house to the two of us, four dogs, two motorbikes and three cars for this length of time
  14. we are finally moving into our new house next Friday, after renting a bedroom from a very generous friend for the last 12 months. I have just put a permit into the local council for "an excess of dogs" as we currently have 3 sheppies and a kelpie X. We have been living in an area where the council is zoned for dogs & kennels etc and previous to living here, we were in Tassie on 2 acres where dog numbers were not so policed. We are going to be living in a regional town on a good sized block and when I put the application in, I also had a covering letter out lineing my 30 yrs experience of dog obedience with various clubs and what my OH has done with nursing visiting. I am getting quite anxious about the outcome as it is now down to "their" call............. I normally am a very positive person, it's just "IF" they say NO to the 4 dogs.......... Any kind words of encouragement??? btw it is the Barossa Council
  15. there is nothing I can say Ness though I can offer you this
  16. Looks like we are no longer "homeless" will be living in the heart of the Barossa Valley, Tanunda.................... So we will be looking for a new vet, does anyone know/recommend one in either Tanunda or Nurioopta?????
  17. WELL DONE Xena98 and what good girlies............ It was a long day yesterday, as one judge had to pull out at the last moment through injury though it was a beautiful day weather wise I was pretty cuffed with my team also particulary with my sheppie boy coming second by one point to your gorgeous Gabby in advance A. Won't bore you all with the scores.....as I had my 2 sheppie girls, Seven & Tasha in RAE who passed at all 3 rally trials for their first 3 legs of RAE........my sheppie boy, Jim who passed also all 3 trials, though his handler did have a brain fart & picked up a 10pt for forgetting to sit on a station Jim now has his RA and last though no means least..........my "plus one" sheltie passed his first 2 RA legs in Sunday's double What was nice is that Saturday's trial was cash for 1st placings and between my 3 had a nice pay packet One bottle of honey bourbon was purchased on the way home that afternoon
  18. all one can say is two words........ WOW.......... and CONGRATULATIONS
  19. It's quite a long haul - and expensive - and a bit stressful if you have 2 dogs doing it (and even more so if they have slightly different cues ;-). I must just need to get a life. :-) WELL DONE everyone on wonderful results.......again................. Tassie I have decied to have a go with both my girls in RAE too Though I have gone two steps further with bringing my sheppie boy (Jim) up to RA and now my "plus one" Sheltie is very ready too for his first RA!!! So for our next rally trial, which is a double, I will have a team of four, all four have slightly different cues for the same station, particulary the sheltie Like you too.................I must get a life
  20. As you may guess by my user name, I ride motorbikes and have done for over 25yrs now They are one of my passions and are also a lifestyle choice. My other passion is dogs.......3 sheppies and my husband's kelpie X, which we do showing, agility and obedience, they also are a lifestyle choice too Yesterday I was unable to compete in a rally trial, so I choose to take my bike out and just sit and watch my friends compete. On the way home I was thinking about how two of my passions in life clash with each other as I can not combine both at the same time, that or I get my husband to design a sidecar for my bike What hobbies do you find clash with your other hobbies??????????
  21. I am after an animal communicator, preferably in Adelaide. Can anyone recommend anyone???? I don't want this turning into a debate of whether you are a believer or not..................... Just pm please
