  1. oops.....sorry KC, obviously I didn't see it
  2. I have an (almost) 7yr old sheppie, who up to the last few months turned her nose up at toys. The standard joke at agility foundation training was "throw Tasha's toy, get her excited!!!' My reply was "Tasha doesn't DO toys" She would look down her nose at them, it was almost beneath her to lower herself to play................... Until now....................... She has discovered the joys of running after a thrown toy, jumping to catch it and tossing them into the air & then killing them Anyone with a late toy player??????????
  3. I do the same with my pups same here....started our 3 wk old sheppies on soft lamb ribs, it's so funny watching babies (with no teeth) suck & gum meaty bones to death......... my husband was watching them one day & commented on "what a slow but cute way it would to be suck/gummed to death by a pack of toothless puppies" By 6-8wks of age, the pups were very capably devouring 1/2 a chicken carcess each
  4. yes please.....another one who wishes to be kept up to date in regards how you all are doing with Aidan
  5. I've had a similar thing when one of my pugs was playing with an Aussie shep pup in the park, and when the owner came over I said "she's a gorgeous Aussie, what's her name?" and she started to say "no she's an Aus..." and then stopped, realising what I said, and was embarrassed because she was so used to explaining that she wasn't a random cross of whatever that it was automatic, and she was surprised that I knew. But there are actually several Aussie's at my dog park now anyway so it's not as much of an issue for them  Reminds me of an evening here in Adelaide when I was with my girlfriend & her kids walking down to the beach at Semaphore.........the kids know I "know" dog breeds, so when they saw a dog they would test me.........border collie, german shepherd, etc then we all saw one breed & I replied very quickly "oh thats a Nova Scoatia Duck Tolling Retriever....of course the kids thought I was making it up till the owner replied very surprised....."no she is right"
  6. He is doing what we "trekkies" call the Vulcan mind meld....................my mind to your mind........ that or he is just trying to get another meal out of you
  7. hey everyone!!! We have recently moved into our new house and I am planning on planting out a herb garden for not just ourselves but for the dougies too. I am currently growing wheat grass for the dogs to graze on........which other "grazing" or self medicating plants would you recommend for the dogs???? Also do you plant straight into the ground or use planter boxes?????
  8. this little dog looks familiar..........does Maggie "do" obedience & rally????
  9. When we bred our litter of Gsds, the father of the litter, Seth his own rules about the puppies playing with him..........he would not partake in playing until the individual pup would engage him in a particular way which was licking his mouth and then sticking their heads in his mouth............ When one of the pups left us to another home with an older male Gsd, the first thing the pup did was go up to the older dog & stick his head in the older dog's mouth Apparently the older dog was quite confused as what to do..............
  10. My 45kg sheppie boy Seth fell in love at first sight with a 12wk old Welsh Springer puppy It was a bit disconcerting for the owners of the springer, when Seth would take her in his mouth (gently) Robyn got use to having the puppy returned to her covered in Seth slime............. Seth would spot the pup from several metres away & his attention would be only on/for her
  11. oh and how long does it take to train one please..............................I work 100 hrs a week & don't have time to train a dog, though a mate told me that if I just watch stuff on youtube I can train my own dog particulary attack training!!
  12. and one that doesn't shed or bark or dig holes in gardens or pulls clothes off the line or poops in the wrong places or can just stay in the front garden area with the gates wide open.................................
  13. we just recently moved into our home in the Barossa Valley and it hasn't taken long for the resident sparrows to figure out that they are on to a good thing with having 3 sheppies in the backyard......... It's only a few minutes after I have groomed all three, that the little birds fly down to pick up the left over hair! Even when the dogs are outside relaxing, the little birds are hopping around picking up bits of fur from the bedding. It's a matter of time till they start plucking the fur right out of the sheppies coats
  14. it is only early days for all of you with your training, concentrate on the basics and continue having fun and building confidence
