  1. Many years ago I did my "apprenticeship" in dog obedience & agility with Cardigan Corgis before I "graduated" to the sheppies. On the 16/6/90 my Cardi Corgi, A/C Cambrian Nike Cdx became the first Cardi Corgi in Aust to obtain her AD title. She was followed two years latter by her son, bred by me, Cardireign Armadeus AD to obtain his AD title. Back then you had to qualify in the top 25% fastest dogs in the second round and there was no other classes such as Adx etc. Also there was only two class sizes and the spread jump was three bars wide and measured 700mm wide and 400mm high for the small class & the A-frame was a lot steeper. My.......the sport has evolved since the "early" years :p I am pretty sure too that Jan West of Llandaff Cardi Corgis obtained the very first ADM for the breed in the mid 90's.
  2. I dont know much about them either however years ago I knew even less about them when I was at a friend's house who bred pugs & also had a couple of griffons. I was about 14 & had never seen a Griffon & unfortunately said......."Scruffy pugs!!!" I was told quite curtly....THEY are Griffon Bruxellois!!!!!!!! Opps
  3. For me definately...................just after my husband died my old sheppie went & sat right in front of his chair. So what you say, you know when you scratch a dog right on the "sweet" spot of their chest & they go all gooey?? Tia sat in front of an empty chair, with that expression on her face & then looked straight at me as if to say "he is here" fwiw :D
  4. There really needs to be an emotcion for ............spitting ones coffee all over the comp :D It sounds like and episode of the Young Ones, where the Rick goes through a friends handbag and finds a "little white mousie"
  5. I'm not naive enough to think that. But I don't think you can fix a severe behavioural problem in one session. I think good dog training probably doesn't make great TV. But what he does does. I just don't think its a fair situation to put her in. Isnt what Cesaer is "generally" dealing with............dogs that have been allowed to get away with certain behaviour?????????? IS it no different from the Nanny 911/Supernanny deals with?????? Children with no boundires, no respect therefore no consequnces to their behaviour??? In the perfect world it would be wonderful to fix all dogs with food & cuddles, however no all dogs are wired to respond to that reward base. Like children they need to know boundries & when they have crossed them & THAT consequnces will follow & sometimes those consequnces are not pleasant. I am not advocating the alpha roll either, though conequnces must be made clear to certain behaviour. The other aspect that i like about Ceasaer, is that he teaches people animal, dog, name. That the dog IS NOT a furry person & to stop treating them like that. Very similar to Dr Phil too, in the respect of STOP feeling sorry for your dog (if it has been abuse etc) & to move on, yes what happened in the past is horrible but it was in the past now move forward to the present/future.
  6. Mostly I enjoy watching Ceasar (particulary if you watch South Park, they "do" a great episode) I enjoy what he teaches about calm assertive energy, to me this is part of life, not running around like a chook with it's head cut off. Adults/children & animals do/will respect you more if you have that calm assertive energy about you. Body languge too is as we all know an excellent tool when dealing with people/animals ........................ however..............as Adian knows from a couple of our PMs, Ceasear doesnt deal with multi pack familys well. We had an incident a couple of months ago when two of our sheppies triggered into an attack on our our x-breed when she was choking. A couple of episodes when something like that has happened in the background, I have noticed it was edited out :D when they replay the incident. I have no problem with an older dog putting a younger dog in it's place when required. What i would REALLY like to see is HOW all those dogs at his centre REALLY get on when either he or the camera crew is not there. To me if you have over twenty dogs running together, there are sub packs therefore conflict within those sub packs. I hope that made sense
  7. Thanks! That's the plan but not sure I'll achieve it this year! I've got 6 trials left for the year.... I guess we'll see! 6 trials ................I wish, we have only three left Seita....... do you know a Qld judge John Robken????
  8. Seita................CONGRATULATIONS Now on to your obedience championship
  9. Ooops ;) I am sure that you aren't the first & certainly won't be the last to get caught out Still annoying though

  11. ;) EXCELLENT NEWS It would be a huge relief for Kylie & Tina
  12. Oh Ness you have been so close, one bloody point, as I am finding out too........the highs & lows of UD
  13. Congratulations again to everyone who had a great weekend!!!!!!!!!! Seita.....for your 2nd UD pass Sue....for your first ever pass ;) and of course to the lovely ladies over in WA with those funny red gundogs........well done AND 100 to the newbie Cider!!! I have no brags, not until the end of October which is our next trial We have so few trials down here, I am finding keeping the consistancy for our trialling the hardest to maintain. Seven knows the work, we just dont have enough trials often enough for her to keep that consistancy that is required for UD.................the question is how do you/any of you how have few trials to attend maintain the consistancy that is required????????
  14. CC, just curious.....do you use perfumed powder carpet freshner?????? I found that would trigger itchness in my corgi's. Just a thought!
  15. If i try and remember everyone who has done well this weekend, I will leave someone out, So...................................... HUGE CONGATS TO EVERYONE for excellent results at all levels of comp with your gorgeous doggies Ness, i think you are thinking of Leo Kuipers He used to live/judge in Adelaide when I was just a "slip of a girl" trialling my very first Cardigan Corgi. He moved on to the ACT.
  16. Poo...bum......bugger...... :D I should have looked at my calendar first before posting I am still at "trade school" that week, so won't be able to make either state
  17. To the Victorian Dolers out there, I know where Werribee is & how far from Melbourne................. however..................Riddells Creek...............where is it & & how far from Werribee is it too???????? Just thinking maybe/perhaps about "pooping" over for that lot of trials for the Oct weekend........maybe/perhaps
  18. Our 7yr old pointerxkelpie had some pretty serious surgery last week to repair her chest/sternum as a result of a "altercation" with our others.....another story...... She is still at the vet's & recovery well considering the damage. I would like to supplement her recovery with herbs etc as she has always been fed a natural diet. Has anyone have any suggestions or sites that I can go to for further info???????? Thanking you in advance......
  19. I rang our vet today for our daily update on our pointerX who had major surgery. The vet nurse put me on hold so the vet could speak to me directly & her first two words were........... "I'm sorry.......... Vet A is having the day off, however I will update you" Jeez, for that splint second I thought the worst!!
  20. I am curious to why dogs will "set upon" another when that dog is in physical trouble ie choking on a stick. Why & how they can trigger on another's pain. Is it someting we can control or just manage or even don't fully understand??????
  21. Jess.......that's another Aaaargh down here too, because we don't have the numbers going through the higher classes, the "newer" judges can't get their experience up to judge those classes. Generally I am the only one in UD ;) There are only three judges that can do UD down here & two of them are almost retired. I'm lucky I have friends to stay with down in Hobart, so I can dothe 4hr drive the night before & have a good night sleep, plus the sheppies can sleep with me too Ah the joys of living regionally
  22. I would LOVE too Ness.............that's the main part of my Aaargh........getting the time off & the $$$ to "pop" over. I just needed to vent, just feeling frustrated at the lack of trials down here
  23. Got the bi-monthly Gazette today & there is only 6 trials in it for Sept/Oct One club has cancelled their trial, another is just having open, novice & Ccd & out of those 4 we can enter.........it is the same judge Aaargh!!!!!!!!!!! AND one of the clubs that is having a trial, is known for cancelling due to lack of numbers, so there may only be TWO trials!!!!!!! Here in Tassie it seems to be a catch 22 situation.....the lack of numbers coming through the trialling classes, so clubs aren't running trials cause they cost money & because there are so few of us competing the clubs don't make money, so don't have the trials to encourage new competitors A good trial down here now is 15 competitors How do you Dolers out there who are regional triallers cope with lack of entries
  24. Congratulations on everyone's great passes this weekend Xena98.......your girl's are a credit to you Ness......... for all of ONE point
