Agility Grand Prix

I would love to but with the 7 hour drive each way and having 2 days off work it would blow the budget. I will plan better for it next year!! -

Rollerblading With Your Dog?
rastus_froggy replied to KitKat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
2 of my friends do it regularly, one has a mastiff and the other has a border collie. They love it and say it is super fun for both them and thier dogs. Surprisingly neither of them have ever fallen off. They blade about 3km to a school then go into the asphelt area and have races! They crouch right down and say that it enables their dogs to get up much more speed. I dont think I will be trying it any time soon with my banana brain staffies. -
Right Hind Leg Limping Occasionally
rastus_froggy replied to Jezithong's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Previous owners dont want to talk as they dont give a sh!t about her... think they forgot that she had a microchip and werent expecting the new owner to be able to get their number, but I must be thankful that they drove 100km to dump her as if they didnt I wouldnt have ended up having such a precious little thing in my life. IF the chiro is not right about her condition, I will then go to the vets, I would prefer to do it this way and find out the chiro is wrong before I go to the vets. This condition whatever it is, is not slowing this boisterous girl down yet so I dont feel it is causing her great pain but I do want to get on top of it now so that she can live a long, happy, healthy, boisterous and agility filled life -
Right Hind Leg Limping Occasionally
rastus_froggy replied to Jezithong's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I took my new dog (a 2 yr old 5kg bitsa maybe a staffyX something small) to a chiro last night for the first time. She was carrying her right hind leg alot, it was suggested to me that she may have a slipping or laxating patella (apparently not that unusual in small dogs). So I took her to him - I have not taken her to the vets as yet to see about this problem - he said she has a rotated pelvis which can cause the patella to laxate, so he worked on this. He is not sure that this will solve her problem but we have to see how she goes for 2 weeks and see if there is any improvement. I must say that I really did like the fact that he did straight out say that he was not sure if this would fix her. He also said that it did make it a hard case too because I have no knowledge of her history beyond 1 month ago. Just my experience with a dog chiro, he also works on racehorses which I think would be great to see! -
What About Your Obedience Club?
rastus_froggy replied to a topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The obedience club I train at has one instructor who talks about the use of clickers although doesnt actually encourage people to use them in class. Check chains are ok with them (reccommended by some instructors, not by others), food is also ok but all in all I still feel they are very old school, I still get looked at strange if I play with my dog when an exercise is finished or if I use a toy in class. But agility on the other hand (at a different club) is all fun and games!! As both clubs train at the same time I usually only go to obedience once a month and that is with my dog who doesnt do agility. My new dog wont have any "formal obedience" but she has started agility already, OT - I have been VERY fortunate with my new dog I have had her one month and so far she has had a 100% perfect recall (which I am still yet to achieve with my other 2 dogs). She thinks that I am the centre of her universe. She was dumped and I think she just loves me to bits for finding her. -
It's the BEST feeling isnt it!! I know how I felt when my Froggy first mastered it, and just getting a new dog it has also made me remember how much work went into getting it... and I havent even attempted it with her yet. I really should start.

I was wrestling with my girl one day and then she started barking at me, so I used this, it was very easy but with my boy he just gets so frustrated when I try it with him, I try everything and he runs around, jumps on me, throws himself on the ground and ends up just walking off, but I will keep trying until I find what works for him.

I dont know a lot about obedience and it's trails but I was super impressed by this.

Where Do You Train Your Dogs
rastus_froggy replied to Henrietta's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would also say maybe try shortening your sessions at home, then when she is making it through a certain length then add a little time to it (perhaps just one minute). I have just got a new dog and I as yet have not done more than 1 minute of training with her at any one time (she has already learnt a few tricks and I have only had her 2 weeks!) -
RIP Mary to you and your family Your heart dog is now running with lots of friends.

My Froggy loves the tunnel too, but she is also one of the dogs who gets to the top of the A frame - stops and has a good look around - then zooms off to the best thing she has spotted while being up there!!

Multiple Dogs Misbehaving
rastus_froggy replied to leopuppy04's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My dogs have the same commands, I just say their name before the command so that they know who the task is for. Its a habbit for me to say a name then the command, so at dog school I am continually getting into trouble for saying my dogs name too often -
