  1. This has a few ideas not muich more than what's here already but it also has plant ideas. http://www.ehow.com/info_8300919_backyard-landscaping-ideas-dogs.html
  2. My instant thought was a Golden as well. Sorry to heap about your cav.
  3. Next dog I get will be having it's dew claws removed when it's getting desexed for sure, they aren't worth the pain I have seen one of my current dogs endure. What a difficult position your vet put you both in, if they had have told you when you booked the dog in at least you would have had time to think about it and sort out finances if you decided to go ahead with the extras.
  4. I will keep an eye out for her, and an ear to the ground to try and find out if anyone has recently gained a new staffy. Hope she comes home soon.
  5. Very sad numbers I agree. Prior to GAP I wouldn't like to imagine what it would have been.
  6. I am a big fan of the wobbler kongs, instead of leaving treats around the house you could put them in the kong and make her work for them. My dogs love the wobblers but aren't getting to use them as much since I have changed them to a raw food diet.
  7. So where do you stand with this now?? Will she find her forever home with you???? It is sad that she couls not have stayed where she was but maybe this was meant to be.
  8. My husband thinks I am just plain mean when I give his dog peanut butter, it takes him forever to get it out of his mouth but I think he enjoys it.
  9. I would report it, council are not allowed to say who put the report in so she wouldn't know for sure who did it and personally I think she would presume it was the lady who the dog actually bailed up. Nothing may happen over this occurance but it will be on record and if anything else comes up it is an extra strike against the person/dog, which in the end may help in preventing something which could end up much worse.
  10. This one is not funny but it is definately a favourite of mine
  11. Froggy is named Froggy because of her springing up and down from the moment I met her (and it has never stopped:)) Stimpy is named after the character out of Ren and Stimpy - Stimpy is the cat in the show so no she doesn't really match her name sake, she is totally like the dog Ren BUT she was not originally meant to stay with us and when my ex named her I figured it was a good way to let them bond and then he may decide we should keep her, which of course ended up happening. My husbands dog Chevy is named after the car/engine and he is a boofy powerhouse.
  12. I worry about leaving my 8 year old staffy at the kennels - I dread the thought of leaving her and it tears my heart out to think that she couls pass away while I am gone. I leave the Pets at Peace details with the kennel and do up laminated sheets for them to attach to both her indoor and out door kennels that has all her details, PAP details and her vets details. I also call Shane at Pets at Peace and let him know when I'm leaving, when I'm getting back and tell him which kennel she is at (I work for PAP so it's not like some random ringing him). He knows what he has to do with her (she will be stored) until I return home from holidays if anything should ever happen. And this is how worried I am with a perfectly healthy dog!
  13. I have just in the last week changed my dogs to a raw diet, I had never thought of going to Lenards, I know where I am heading tomorrow!
  14. Lots of ideas were put up in your last thread have you tried any of those yet? A staffy will not just suddenly stop jumping fences, as I said in your previous thread my staffy is 8 and still jumps the fence if given the opportunity - therefore I have to remove her opportunities to do it. She is penned while I am not home, in a pen made cheaply from materlial from the scrap metal recyclers.
  15. You should be able to pick up a small cheapish electric fence box from a farm supply store - like Elders - you may need to google themas I guess they aren't the run of the mill shop in Sydney
  16. I have heard of it before and have heard of some rescue groups who will take lighter colour dogs over blacks any day. Also I know that for movies producers prefer dogs that have lighter coloured faces as their detail stands out better when filmed. When you look at the amount of dogs in movies and advertising there are way more lighter coloured dogs which may subconciously influence peoples preferance???
  17. I hope your friend also mentioned microchipping to the owner. I am still amazed that it isn't the FIRST thing that people get done to their new pet :D
  18. Could possibly be the same one - he belongs to Miller. There is anothon one though who belongs to his friend. I love the build of the breed, but then I love any large short coated, well muscled breed :D
  19. Here is what my local council website says: Council recommends that the number of animals kept at a suburban property be limited to the following: •2 Dogs •2 Cats •15 Poultry - includes chickens, ducks, geese etc. Roosters are not recommended. •100 Pigeon - racing birds, 40 stock birds •50 Small birds - includes budgies, canaries, quails finches •2 Large birds - includes cockatoo and corella •1 Pet rat •10 Mice or guinea pigs •1 Sheep or goat. Billy goats are not recommended. So from this I read it as you can have as many as you like until someone complains.
  20. WOW that's really good I think it looks like it has kelpie in it. The outline looks huskyish to me, I think something needs to be a bit different with the eyes to make it look more GSDish, maybe the placement is a little off. BUT still it's great!!
  21. One of my friends has one, it's a lovely boy and used for pig hunting along with my friends other dogs. He's such a beautiful natured goofy boy A few years back I spoke to one of the original breeders in NT and she said she would never seel one of her dogs to someone in suburbia, she would only sell to those on farms, with previous experience in other strong willed and physically strong breeds.
  22. Not sure about the pvc working. Some people put an extention on their fence that slopes inward, I have not been able to do that in my yard, but in all honesty in my opinion a dog run is the safest way of being sure that your dog cant get out. I bought everything to make mine from the scrap metal recycling place in town, the posts, the mesh and the gate, then I just bought quick set cement from the hardware shop, dug holes put the posts and cement in then attached the mesh. Really give me peace of mind with my brat. When she was younger one day I walked her for 2 hours and within 10 minutes of being home she jumped the fence :D I thought she hated me ;) . People in the past described her as ADHD - my husband say is stands for A D!ckHead Dog
  23. Build an enclosed run, my staffy is 8 and still jumps the fences. Yesterday I caught her climbing on an upturned wheelbarrow trying to use it as height to help her jump over our extended height fence, onto the neighbours garden shed roof, and that was while I was in the backyard.
  24. I know this is a very old thread ;) but was doing a search on this guy as I have just been lent his book to read, I am through the first chapter but am struggling with it :D , already I am finding him annoying but I am trying to push through it to get to his theories. Anyone else read it?
