  1. You want a good working dog? don't get a dobermann.
  2. Dang it. I wanted to go through that doorway. ;) I hope it is because you have nuclear weapons as drugs are bad. ;)
  3. What do the handlers have to do to become licensed dog handlers in WA? I hope the change has been more thoughtful than the one that occurred in NSW several years ago. They added a 1D licence class for security dog handlers as well as several other categories. The problem with the change was they allowed dog handlers who were already working in the role to apply for RPL without them gaining any extra knowledge through undertaking additional training and no testing of a handlers dog is required. I believe there should be a standard which both dogs and handlers should have to pass to become accredited to work in security roles. Reputable security companies and dog handlers do seek out additional training and have standards which a dog must not fall under but there needs to be an Australian wide standard set for dogs and handlers working in these roles.
  4. Yeah, I think we can aim for a couple of hundred people within a few days. The thread just needs someone to spice things up a bit. :D I recommend people train using head halters, they work on horses so why not dogs? Schutzhund training creates unstable and overly aggressive dogs that will eventually snap and go on a killing spree. E-collars are cruel and have been known to malfunction causing dogs to catch on fire. Prong collars were originally created by the CIA and used as a torture device.
  5. I thought there were unlimited spectator positions? Seeing as this has now changed I would have thought there would be no tickets left as they have been selling tickets to the event since November?
  6. I do not know if it is still running. [email protected] is the last contact email I can find for Sanne Pedersen the club secretary. or contact Maurice on the details from his website. http://www.k9workinglines.com/main/contact.php
  7. Have you seen the article on the Vanrusselhof website? http://www.malinois.net.au/Intervariety.htm it answers a few of your questions.
  8. Yes as with most breeds there is a huge difference between working and show line. You also have a difference in drives and temperament between working line Malinois being bred for different sports/pursuits. eg KNPV and Schutzhund. I recommend obedience / agility owners as Nekhbet suggested look in to the show line Malinois first.
  9. I agree with people interested in the Malinois to contact Amanda from Vanrusselhof. She is a great person to deal with and will give you accurate information about the breed.
  10. I do not have the DVD but I dare say there would be useful information contained within the DVD. Tony McCallum is a very experienced working dog handler / trainer.
  11. I think a lot of trainers just attach the title to there name to gain some type of recognition. I know the North American Police Work Dog Association and other Law Enforcement Associations give out the title to suitable canine trainers/handlers. I believe the US Military also uses the term.
  12. I would go with Stewart Hilliard which would be either option.
  13. We are talking about a German Shepherd with aggression issues, and with all due respect for Susan Hazel I fail to see how she would be more experienced than Mark Singer with dealing with German Shepherds and aggression. Lets compare there experience with working dogs Dr Susan Hazel Mark Singer I know who I would be contacting if I had problems with training my German Shepherd.
  14. Playing COD and teaching the Afghani kids Aussie slang is pretty much the only thing to do during time off.
  15. I have had to choke dogs out to get them off the bite before. I believe K9 Force has had to do the same thing. The wheelbarrow technique Aidan described works well but sometimes choking the dog off is the only way you will be able to remove the dog.
  16. Sending you an email, Kelpie-i. Cheers Erny Sorry did not see this till now, have sent you an email Kelpie-i.
  17. You will of course ensure that I am second in line to you in signing up for that one, Kelpie-i, won't you Kelpie-i ? I would also be interested in looking at the course Brenda Aloff is putting together. Please give us a nudge when more information comes out.
  18. Great photos, I wish I had time to take some decent photos. I only have poor quality helmet and body cam footage of the landscape.
  19. Nothing exciting, I have been busy with work trying out new jobs and managing to stir the pot with management in each position. I will have to catch up in the new year sometime when work dies down a bit.
  20. Welcome to NSW I heard you moved up. I do not know of any dog groups but it is good to see you have moved to NSW and are settling in well.
  21. Paint her black and I will tell everyone she is a miniature working line German Shepherd.
