  1. Is anyone else seriously loving Joe's accent?
  2. This man apparently has rescued them, among others http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/ke...akurai1?sk=wall
  3. Yes! I have done it before and it worked well for a while but then start drying the skin around it too much. I got my Mum on to it and she used it no worries for her dermatitis on her hands. You need to leave it on for ten minutes though as it doesn't start acting until 7 minutes. I have also used it on my hair years ago. When I went on quit smoking drugs my scalp got scabby and itchy so I used Malaseb.. eta: I should add that this is my own personal opinion/experiences!
  4. There is no NSW law that says that though , just that they can't be on your lap. eta: the quote thingo stuffed up, but Im sure you know what I mean!
  5. so true Clyde. Not only that but many groups & carers (even though they are trying) are only providing aspects of quarantine anyway. To provide 100% quarantine is beyond what is practical for most rescues or carers. Eta, i am not for a minute suggesting that quarantine is useless, just that it is difficult to make it foolproof. Providing the correct information to new foster carers about the risks of disease in pound dogs, and giving advice on how to minimise them, is not so difficult. Which is why I said that in my initial post.
  6. A lot of rescue groups don't have the means to quarantine before the dog goes to the carer. In this instance the carer should act as quarantine ( a lot don't though!) So while I don't believe it's the end of the world that the group did not quarantine before you had the dog, they definitely should have advised you of the risks so that you were made well aware of what you are in for. I really feel for you, it's an awful feeling. A lot of us have experienced it before so you have a sounding board here
  7. I think the term 'dominant' is overused. A lot of so called dominant dogs are just bossy, or like to stir trouble, or are possessive about desirable things. I don't believe a lot of behaviours people often have trouble with here on the forums is truly dominant. In the time I did rescue I believe out of so many dogs in care over time (about 100?) that only one was truly dominant and he genuinely scared the shit out of me. Some people might think my Stafford is dominant as she always growls at other dogs when meeting, she is also fence aggressive but she's really very soft. I've had people call my Shih Tzu dominant, but really she's just a spoilt little princess who bitches when she doesn't get what she wants and likes growling and yapping at the others to let them know she 'aint happy.
  8. Nothing wrong with being house proud Corvus
  9. I can't see why this would be the case when ticks thrive in moist, coastal areas. My garden was always well watered but I still got ticks. You can plant certain plants which attract birds which eat ticks, although it seems kind of silly to be attracting ticks to begin with! I had my garden professionally landscaped in order to avoid ticks and I still got ticks! I agree with the above posters about insisting on prevention and waivers. Try searching for kennel web sites in the Duffys Forest/Terrey Hills area to see what they say about ticks. eta: Marendale says this: Ticks collars would be good but I guess a pain if the dogs have play time etc
  10. Are there dogs showing at the Moss Vale Show this weekend?
  11. I've had my Studio Sebastian bowls for about 10 years. I think I have about 8 of them, all different sizes. They're very sturdy! Gertie the Tzu has little black and white striped Freedom ones with crowns in them, and I also have the Snooza Eat Drink ones which I really like too.
  12. I didnt end up going but Im only ten minutes away. At around 4pm we were hit with torrential rain, then hail and ground shaking thunder. I hope it by passed them at the Showground!
  13. Freedom and Bed, Bath &Table often have nice bowls.
  14. Just a heads up if anyone is looking for a day out tomorrow. Robo Show has rides and games for the kiddies, Poultry show, cattle exhibits, horse comps and 690 dogs entered!
  15. I thought you had a Dogue? Yet you often call your dog a Mastiff..... technically a Mastiff is an entirely different breed. If you are talking about your Dogue, I know some who have not properly matured until 4yrs although other owners might have different advice.
  16. That poor poor dog.......... I couldnt stop thinking about him when he was impounded. Good on you for taking him, I am sorry about his vet report but pleased he has you in his final days. He's probably never known such love and care
  17. Elina, I am considering 2 days away if you were wanting to stop over in the Southern Highlands on your way to Sydney? I was thinking 18th April so I don't know if that's cutting it too fine for you though to sell your car by the 28th. It's a beautiful area with lots to see and do. Just send me a PM if keen.
  18. Clyde

    Rip Asha

I'm sorry Paula, what a gorgeous old dog . She certainly lived the good life
  19. Just for now, try to keep him out of the garden/off your grass to see if it helps. I have nothing which I am aware about which is itchy to dogs in mine, but if my Stafford goes in to the garden area she scratches for days.
  20. You've always had a natural flair, it's been fab following your journey
