Keeshond First Seizure

Recommended Posts

HI all,

I've read through all the posts.. But I didn't know where else or who else to tell. and I know you are all very supportive and a wonderful community.

Hazel just had her first seizure tonight. She kind of just vomited all her food went into a corner and looked like she was sulking. I went up to her and she kind of just fell into my lap kind of stiff, eyes wide open and glassy and her legs stiff but slightly paddling. Her stomach was sort of pulsing in an exageratted motion. not sure if that makes sense. I immediately called the emergency vet to find out where they were. and while I was on the phone it stopped. Lasted about 40 seconds.

She also lost control of her bowels and after she seemed really exhausted. We just dropped her off at the hospital, they cleaned up her bum (cos of her hair) and she is on "seizure watch" tonight.

I just feel so scared, not sure what the outcome is going to be. If the full blood work comes up with nothing, is that good or is that bad?

Can't wait till morning to hear the results.

:D

No, as far as we know, everything was as normal. she is an inside dog so she's hardly outside in the grass. no pesticides around my house no bugs at my place..

well they're watching her and doing a blood work.. hope its just a once off...

thanks for the thoughts

hmm.. feel kinda odd that no one else has offered any advice? Must be out on this beautiful sunday.

Called up twice today already. Bloodwork has come back and all except liver enzyme seem normal. So we're looking to get an ultrasound done on Monday with the specialist. She has had this weird "strawberry jame" diarrhea (the doctor calls it) and it keeps runing so she can't come home yet. Also she has weird enlarged lymph nodes on her back legs. so. hopefully the ultrasound will fix all.

wil be going in to visit her today.

Oh I am so sorry LLD, poor Hazel

I have a dog here, Bailey who has had seizures but only partial seizures, they are scary enough to watch, I can't even imagine a grand mal :walkdog: I haven't really go any advice unfortunately, we use to just have to let Bailey ride though his.

Hang in there, I am thinking of you and lots of healing vibes heading Hazels way

THank you all for ur support.

We spent an hour earlier today at the hospital just spending time with her, patting her, watching her sleep.

She's on antibiotics and its made her quite drowsy. so she was just sleeping while we were there.

that was at about 2.30 3ish. Just gave them a call and they said that her continuous diarrhea has stopped and she has only had one episode of diarrhea since we left. Which is better but still unusual.

Anyway tomorrow we're going to go ahead with the ultrasound so we can get some sort of idea of what's going on.

will keep updating...

Thanks guys.

Cockerlover: it was frightening to see her like that. I was so freaked out i immediately called the hospital.... and to see her eyes like that and not knowing what to do.

Rang up this morning. the diarrhea was darkish brown last night and she hasn't diarrhead overnight.. which is a good thing.

They've noticed that her heartbeat is slightly irregular (which we thought was always a known thing) but since the specialist is having a look at her, they will let him know (since i'm paying $170 for consultation) although an ECG will cost about 300 more.

IT's weird though. Wanted to get her pet insurance when we got her 2 years ago, but we were advised against it because we hadn't had her as a puppy and were told that there would be alot of exclusions cos we didn't know what pre-existing conditions she had.

oh well.. too late now..

we're up to 2000 bucks now..that's exluding the ECG and mostlikely tonight's stay..

i just miss her.. and i want her to be ok. and i want her to come home

hi all, just a quick update as the specialist has just called.

She's had an ultrasound of the heart and an ECG done. and they think she had a syncopy or something? and they observed a really abnormal rhythm from the ECG and says its ventricular tachycardia where the pulses which are suppoesd to originiate from the SA node are orginating from the ventricle in multiple locations.

They're starting her on something that sounds like "Lignacone" and they said that it may or may not work and it may or may not have a worse reaction.

Just got back from the hospital. She seems almost like herself again, she's eating again because they're feeding her chicken and she lovvveesss chicken.

the ultrasound on her abdomen found enlarged lymph nodes an a 2-3 cm lesion on her liver.

so we have some things to consider whether we want an MRI done before we do a liver biopsy/remove etc..

but first we have to focus on her heart. because she has almost no normal heartbeat. the vet explained her ecg waveforms and comparison and all..

sigh...
