Can't help you with all of the questions you have, but

When I was researching a Pug on the limited register on a desexing contract was $1500.

Not sure about health tests, but they can suffer from a problem with mal formed vertibrae(sp?) in their lower spine.

They can also suffer from narrow nostril openings and elongated soft pallets

Not sure about a Cavalier. Cav's should come from parents tested free from Mitral valve disease (heart disease)

If the puppy is a cross from un-health(highly likely) tested parents you have the potential to all of the potential issues crop up in one dog and that dog may just end up with your friends.

Registered pedigree puppies from ethical breeders may cost more in the beginning, however over the life of the dog will cost very little. If the puppy ends up with health issues they may die prematurely or cost a lot of money to maintain starting from an early age.

They have back up for life from an ethical breeder. With a DD you pay the money you leave - end of relationship. Any problems or concerns down the track - you are on your own. An ethical breeder is always available and will provide backup (different with each breeder) for the life of the puppy they have bred.

A Designer cross breed is kindsa like a lottery - if you lose you may end up with a lot of heartache.

No No No isnt that what Don Burke promotes I mean who wants what he has got ?

what about a purebred ex show dog ( already passed the annoying puppy stage, house trained and so much more bonus points)

I am sure there are heaps of breeders on DOL who have ex show dogs and WHY pay all that money for a crossbred dog that may have a myriad of health problems ?

A pugalier dear me

I will admit 6yrs ago I thought they were gorgeous,I looked into buying one att they were $750 a pup so we were not bringing in much money so I couldn't not see the point of forking that much on a desingner that hadn't been out long

I emailed you heaps of pugs looking for homes and FROM proper breeders! Rach,

Good Luck

You can only try your best, in the end it is entirely their choice and their money, but remember that, they will choose, you can only offer to educate and always nicer when an education not a harp harp harp.

Good luck

NO!

Have a look at Charles Wentworth's health problems - he is a cav x bred, and his health problems have cost thousands of $$$$ to maintain.

Please point out to them that if they get a pup from a puppy farm they are likely to end up with an under-socialised, high-maintenance, hard-to-train nightmare.

NOT that I am saying that every pup from these farms is - just that inexperienced puppy owners will not have the skill set necessary to cope IF this is what they purchase.

Why not ask them if they would like a Griffon Bruxellois - the smooth ones look quite similar to a cav/pug crossbred, except completely and totally gorgeous!!

You know what sometimes it doesnt matter how much information you give people, they just don't care.

My friend has been wanting a pure cocker spaniel for months. I gave her a list of all the DOL Breeders, gave her website information on why not to buy from puppy shops because you will be supporting puppy mills etc.

And what does she do??? 2 days ago she bought a cocker spaniel from the pet shop. ARGHHHH. All my trying to help her was a waste of time. Apparently she rang alot of melbourne breeders and they all had waiting lists and she was way down the bottom and she didn't want to wait any more. So she rang up pet stores and asked for a Cocker puppy and she got her wish.

I was just shocked that she didn't care about the puppy mill issue. If people want something, they really don't care one bit!!
