If you don't struggle with increasing and decreasing it is easier to knit squares on the diagonal.

Start with two stitches

Next row - knit one, increase one into the second stitch and then knit to end

Repeat until your side is required size

Then decrease

Knit one, knit two together and then knit to end

Repeat until you have two stitches left

Cast off

That way you don't have to guess how many stitches you need.

I've done a couple of circular scarve thingis, different sizes, done on a big circular ring in the same manner as the tomboy stitch of schooldays rather than the wooden cotton reel. Saw them at a market and thought they were a great idea, problem is it does'nt get cold enough here to wear them, can be used in a variety of different ways.

What about a donated dog coat - do you still want already knitted items for auctions too? If so where do I send it?
