My friend has had a case of parvo and we were wondering how best to clean her kennels? She has grass runs and concrete kennels which does make it more difficult

Not sure about the grass but use TRIGENE on the concrete and anything else. It can be ordered from the Vet.

My reading says that there is nothing you can do on the grass. Only sure thing to do is concrete over the top.

Dig out the top two feet of soil and replace. Very expensive option. Some people use bleach but it will kill all the grass and no guarantee it will penetrate the soil.

Other than this very extreme measure you could try VirkonS. It works in the presence of organic material so should also work on the soil as well as the concrete. It is VERY expensive.

Can the parvo spores be killed by heat? I wonder if laying plastic on the grass and left for the sun

( if it stops raining) to sterilize the ground?? This is done for certain weeds etc

No, it can even withstand freezing temperatures.

A friend of mine who had a parvo outbreak sprayed with trigene, lime covering soaking in with water and a couple of other things - will find out what else she did -

It killed the grass but the grass did grow back after a while.

Bleach for the concrete, not sure about the grass but lime gets rid of the bugs in calf pen's if theres an outbreak of scours.

I would try the Lime option too, not garden lime though, it needs to be builders lime, the ground well watered both before and after. The dogs will need to be kept off it as well as the lime will burn there feet.

we use Virkon S at the animal shelter, as someone said earlier, very expensive, but we tried other things and had more parvo outbreaks when we were not using it.

Parvovirus is almost impossible to eliminate from soil. Virkon S seems to be the most effective disinfectant however it still amy ne be enough. Please be VERY careful using lime products around dogs as even dilute lime can cause severe alkali burns on skin and especially to eyes.
