If there is two shows in one day, I'm pretty much going to be there, regardless of where it is in my state. If there are 2 days of 2 shows a day (or more!), that's even better. I'll travel anywhere within 10 hours for that. If it is a breed specialist, or a UK judge, I am more inclined to travel as well. I really dislike when judges are doing multiple groups. It holds up everything if 6 groups are judged, and then one judge continues onto a second group. Very annoying! I am also the kind of person that likes to get going straight away, so if my group is on second then I am not inclined to enter. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Clean facilities Great canteen - will always buy if I can... Because we believe its important to suppor the club.....but being Gluten intolerant not many shows will have say bacon and eggs on a paper plate .... Level and well maintained grounds with large and well roped rings - with a walkway where people cant camp Cabins / caravan park nearby for double weekend shows Two day shows will nearly always get my vote because we make a weekend out of if with friends. Gazebo space is last on my list... while its nice to sit ringside and watch what is going on, its not the biggest priority - If I can keep an eye on what is happening, dont miss my call, and don't clutter up the marshalling area, then I am happy. Oh and sometimes a 'doggy shop' incase you break a lead, need a new bit of bedding or bowl etc... naturally of course I like the Albury Shows - that's our home show and it ticks all our boxes, and we dont show there now... but after that I love Tumbarumba and have already booked our cabin for next year's show... you have to get in early. Then I dont mind the shows at Thurgoona - thye are only 5 minutes from home also but the food is dreadful so I take my own Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

So a 2-3 show weekend somewhere interesting is nice, Ovens Valley was on this weekend and we went up in the mountains and just drove around and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery!! Overseas judges from US/Canada/Scandinavia Neuter classes offered Accomodation nearby that allows dogs inside (we don't camp ) Competition We usually show at KCC where there is plenty of space but if I go away entries are usually smaller and the group is over so quick I don't bother setting up! Korella Posted April 3, 2011 Share Posted April 3, 2011 In defence of Gundagai (thanks Poodlefan for mentioning it), it is DEFINITELY easier in the new location than previously right in the middle of the horses!!!! I have been asking for an alteration to the perimeter fence, but with all the damage caused by the December floods, we were lucky to have a show this year, let alone getting alterations. Hopefully it will happen for next year. We are lucky we can boast lovely full size rings for everyone and some catering. I know the Society has secured a grant, so hopefully a new toilet block is on the agenda too. So there's lots of plans for improvements. (Anyone got any other suggestions for improvements???) Am open to all ideas to pass on to the committee. As an exhibitor, I agree the Tumbarumba weekend is a beauty now it has Bethungra, and more so now that the cattle railing has been removed. It makes parking a lot easier. Praise also to Morsha and her helpers on the Albury showground canteen. It's a great effort. Two of my favourites are The Rock and Ardlethan (although the Ard Royal needs some imagination for toilet facilities!!!!). Relaxed atmosphere and we always do the picnic thing. Being able to gain access to the ring if I have had to set up behind, or if I am set up ringside, access out to toilet my dog. My pet hate is when no-one leaves walkways, it's so claustrophobic and a few people get really angry when you have to sneak through to close to them. It doesn't really affect me but something that I find annoys some people is when the rings are mowed but the grass clippings are left, it's simple to fix too. I cringe when the Puli's come out of there and have actually swept a path and then the owner has to head back to their gazebo and remove it all from the dog's coat to go back in for group. Some of the grounds are pretty small (for those Tassie people I'm thinking of Westbury) and the "crack of dawners" set up along the edge of the ring (which is fine, first come and all) but a lot of people have to set up on the other side of the gravel road. Wouldn't be so bad if the ring entrance was on that side but when you have a trolley and can't just duck through the barrier it's a heck of a trek all the way around the rings. klink Posted April 5, 2011 Share Posted April 5, 2011 I agree with most of the comments re show venues and the standard of some of these locations and at the same time I appreciate the efforts put in by clubs trying to organise shows, many times with limited help from their local councils etc. I think ,like many have remarked that " cluster " shows are the best option for exhibitors ,particularly those that have to travel distance around country areas. I would also like to comment on the fact that in spite of all the money being poured into Erskine Park in Sydney, a ground that is not owned by Dogs' NSW and is leased only largely with members monies that we in Nsw still do not have an all weather indoor arena .
