auto Posted April 24, 2011 Share Posted April 24, 2011 (edited) I have a 2yr old bitch, that is in whelp( with 9 days togo) that is vomiting red blood. Started the day before yesterday, the vets are stomped. she has no temp, no discharge,did not vomite allday yesterday when she was on a drip, was fed last night and still on drip and vomited blood over night. rat sack posioning has been ruled out because has had blood test for clotting and her blood clots she has passed stools so blockage has been ruled out. thanks for adivce in advance. Perhaps it gets 'opened up again' when food passes through, and starts bleeding. Poor girl. Hope she will be ok. did she eat sharp bones/eggshells/foreign object that you can think of ? It could still be a partial obscuration, a tear somewhere or an ulcer. I would go straight to the specialist and get the camera that they put down her throat done. They can then get a really good look right down the throat, stomach and bowel and you will know exactly what is wrong. LizT Posted April 24, 2011 Share Posted April 24, 2011 Is she still under veterinary care? There is no point trying to treat her for stomach ulcers unless that has been diagnosed. Portia is on 2 different medications for a month, she was also on bland Hills i/d prescription diet for about a week so as not to aggravate her stomach. She was low in one particular protein which *may* have contributed (but wasn't a certainty). A check about 2 weeks later via full blood test and that level was back to normal. This was Portia's first litter also, but the pups were 10 weeks old by the time she was ill. She had previously been trying to escape the yard.
