WExtremeG Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 attacks my dog while mine is on a leash and they're not is going to cop a swift kick to the head. I'm sick of it. My dog is only 19 weeks old and obviously still a puppy. She has done nothing wrong to deserve being attacked by 3 separate dogs on 3 separate occasions, none of which were provoked in any way. It seems you can't take a dog for a walk anymore without some idiots' dogs running loose and finding it 'fun' to attack a baby. Sick, Sick, SICK OF IT!!! sausy.dog Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Don't blame you. We had a jack russell cross living near us that used to be such a menace when we walked the dogs anywhere near him. Yesterday I was walking my dog with my daughter & up ahead was a woman, her young child & an offlead staffy. As is my habit, I crossed to avoid it- I have had too many bad experiences with offlead dogs. Just behind me was a woman walking her sweet little pomeranian & sure enough the bloody staffy saw it, raced up to it & lunged to grab it!! Luckily the poor woman managed to whisk it up (by its lead!!) just in time! Made my blood run cold. And I was very thankful I'd followed my own instincts. I take a big stick with me and if any dog even tries to get near mine I give it all ive got with the stick... one of my dogs has scars all over her face from attacks from loose dogs on the street I dont give a shit anymore, if your dog comes near mine in an aggressive manner, its going to cop it!!!!! We have been rushed at so many times by wandering dogs it does my head in, almost every time the dog was not friendly. We just rush back at the dog and it's worked every time, just jump at it and yell if you have to, my OH has said many times he wouldn't hesitate in kicking a dog if he had to. WExtremeG Posted December 19, 2011 Author Share Posted December 19, 2011 Thanks everyone. Yeah, she's okay. A few superficial puncture marks on her hind legs that hopefully won't take long to heal. I don't know what it is, but it seems like every time there is a dog loose it has to rush over and start attacking her- I don't trust any loose dog! The dog that attacked her today was apparently a stray, they (the people who found it) were trying to locate the owner but were keeping it at their place until then. Anyway we (my son, daughter, OH and I) were walking down the road and I saw this dog behind a gate with some kids who were coming out. I said to my OH "now that's a dog I wouldn't want loose" and you guessed it- the kids coming out weren't quick enough closing the gate and the dog came CHARGING FROM ACROSS THE ROAD straight for our dog. I jumped in front of it and yelled at it, but it ignored me and latched on. My poor daughter who was walking the pup at the time was trying to pull our dog away as I tried to pull off the dog as it had gotten our dogs leg in it's mouth. Of course there was a lot of commotion and the people who had claimed they found the dog were over to help. The woman explained and said that she'd call the pound to come and get it as she wasn't expecting the dog to be so aggressive (I would've thought strange dog anything goes?)- so no we haven't reported it yet may not need to- hopefully they've done what they said they'd do. I've been told that giving a dog running towards you a confident 'sit' command can work, not sure if with a spit moment to decide my foot wouldn't come into action first though. One thing I'd be careful about doing is picking up a small dog to protect it, you can end up in the firing line instead. Of course that is easier said that done when your baby is in danger. I've done this, walking Saxon and a young GSD running loose towards us. I'd rather xx kgs ;) of me go up against an unknown dog than 5 kgs of Saxon. In this particular situation I saw the dog running towards us, grabbed Saxon, held him in one arm behind me, walked towards the GSD and told it loudly and firmly to stop, sit. Luckily it did, turned out it was actually a nice and well trained young dog, but Saxon stayed in my arms until the other dog was headed off to his house, and I'd do the same again any day. I do think being confident and assertive with an approaching dog is the best bet in trying to stop it, I'd do whatever I could to avoid physical conflict with a large dog, and I do think in the cases of a pet who has escaped this will generally work. But still, if it really comes down to it I will put myself in the firing line over my 5 and 6 kg dogs. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Casima Posted December 19, 2011 Share Posted December 19, 2011 Luckily the areas I usually walk my dogs in we rarely see a loose dog, and the few we do see are usually only over friendly rude dogs rather than aggressive, I've socialised my own dogs well such that those rude dogs don't bother them. The odd occasion we have been approached by an unfriendly dog, I've found these types of dogs usually have a pretty healthy respect for angry people and in all cases but 1 I've managed to stop these dogs in their tracks just by yelling and charging towards them myself and looking as mean and angry as I can, keeping my own dogs behind me. Only once did a dog keep comming, and I must say it got swift boot in its side sometimes you have to do whats best for your own dogs. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It is suppose to be an adventureous time for him. I hope he hasnt suffered mentally from these aweful interactions. Its my worst fear, stray dogs, they are just so bloody unpredictable & usually very defensive. Maybe you could take your littley for a short drive, might be able to find a somewhere more quiet.
