Neighbours Dog

So we have been having some issues with the neighbours Staffy and his owner. We have 2 dogs, 1 Border Collie and 1 Golden Retriever, high secure fences and well socialised dogs who get plenty of exercise and attention.

The couple of issues we have are:

1. Every morning the neighbour lets his staffy out the front off lead while he gets his car ready for work. Without fail, every single time, the dog will come and poop on my front lawn. I have caught him doing this sooooo many times and I shoo him home if he hasnt already gone but he will still go and poo on the other neighbours lawn too. This is an older dog who doesnt like young kids (I have 3) and while the dog has never come near our kids and my kids know to stay away, the constant check of poop is so annoying as our kids like to play in the front yard and this dog has poop everywhere, not just 1 pile, 3 or 4. We have tried to speak to the neighbour and he is usually good for a week or so in picking it all up, but he still happily lets the dog out and then it poops again.

2. This dog lives in a space of about 3x2 metres on concrete right against our fence. Our dogs naturally want to go over and say hello and this then starts his dog barking its head off, and howling. Its obviously bored but its not barking in a friendly way, my dogs hear the barking and come straight away from the fence and tend to actually stay away from the fence so I know they arent doing anything to make the dog bark more. The dog is also trying to dig under the fence where there is a small strip of dirt and can get half his head under, we have filled the hole countless times, put gravel and bricks and then it digs again. we have spoken to the owner about this too but he says well i guess he is bored and wants to play. If the dog is bored, spend time with it!! We have now fenced off that entire section of the fence the entire length and I doubt the dog will ever fit fully under but didnt want our dogs encouraging or making the dog hole bigger!

3. This guy regularly has parties (no big deal) but the problem is the beer cans and bottles that get thrown over the fence. Last week we took 3 cans off our GR who loves to chew ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and we were monitoring him to make sure he hadnt swallowed any metal. I know we can keep the dogs inside when he has his parties, but he has friends over at any time of day or night and I am sick of finding rubbish in our yard.

Any ideas on how to make this guy actually listen, getting a bit sick of talking to him when it goes in one ear and out the other.

Firstly, I would be picking up the neighbour's dog poo and throwing it back onto his lawn or driveway.

Same deal with the cans over the back fence.

You can't control other people's behaviour. You can ask nicely - numerous times if need be - but at the end of the day, you can't change someone else's behaviour.

If he doesn't like his dog's poo squashed on his driveway or thrown back on his lawn, he might be more inclined to pick up after the dog.

You could also mention that you occasionally sprinkle snail bait on your front lawn/garden and would hate the neighbours dog to end up eating it ;)

I just went out the front and flicked 4 poops over that were new since this morning, he will run over them with his car when he pulls in the driveway

Excellent, well done! Now he may know what it's like. Do you know if he does any poo patrols in either his front or back yards at all? Hopefully he isn't one of those people who don't care about stepping in dog shit. I reckon you should add a few of your own dogs poop as well for good measure.:D

I agree, pick up the dogs Poop with a shovel and go throw it over the fence or place it on his driveway where he will surely see it...

My Neighours have late night Saturday parties, makes it much more fun, getting up and pressure washing and playing my music loud on a Sunday morning

he doesnt seem to clean up the poop that often, its a concrete area and when i just peeked over the fence there was about 15 poos on the cement. Our dogs do fairly substantial poops so will add a few to the pile in the morning, Also threw back 2 VB cans this afternoon, grrrr

don't add your own dogs poop into the pile. Just return what belongs to him (or his dog)and he has no basis on which to complain about you to the council etc. Well he might complain but won't have a leg to stand on.

How confident are you that he won't turn nasty?

If he can be that careless, be careful he doesnt have enough of a mean bone in his body he wouldnt do something to accidently harm your dogs, there are way too many idiots out there to be poking the fire.

Return whats his if you must, but keep your focus on your own dogs and things that make you happy. He's not worth it.
