I have read about regular bathing etc. I am after recommendations of brands of products. Ie What shampoo, moisturizer and sunscreen. :) I was told coconut oil...Thoughts? CrazyCresties Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Hi Fergiesmum and welcome, great to see another crestie owner - there's not many of us on here :) I have 3 cresties, a puff, a hairy hairless and a hairless. To be honest I have found the less you mess around with their skin the better. My hairless guys get a wash with some mild puppy shampoo every couple of weeks and a small amount of coconut oil rubbed in if needed. My HHL is just over a year old, so still prone to the odd 'puppy acne' break out. Try not to mess with any spots and just let them dry up and heal on their own. From your photo in the other thread s/he looks to have pretty good skin from what I can see. A good quality diet is very important too, what goes in helps as much as what you put on the skin externally. What is your little one's name? I look forward to hearing more and also more photos :) Feel free to ask any questions, I'm not a breeder but have owned cresties for a few years now. He is apparently a crestie crossed with a silky terrier. Although i believe that his lack of hair may be due to one of his parents being very inbred with its siblings etc (puppy farming grrr). He is 10 months old and gorgeous. Not well socialized but getting there. Although we haven't taken him out much as he has only just been vaccinated and desexed a week ago. He hasn't had a bath yet as I didn't want to freak him out in his first week and the 2nd week he had his desex. I am currently wipeing him over with water and an enjo or norwex cloth and them using a little coconut oil. I just really want the best for him and was wondering if there were any specific products for cresties or recommended products. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He certainly looks like he is has a lot of crestie in him :) Well done for giving him a home, mine are all rescues of one type or anther too. Two of mine have issues from not being socialised properly when young, so it's important that you do what you can to help him with socialization. There are no 'crestie specific' products, but I tend to stick to gentler products for their skin. In the summer mine just get washed outside under the hose, but in the winter I'm not so mean and take them in the shower with me :) I use this shampoo - http://www.fuzzyard.com/collection/shampoo-conditioner/puppy/ And also occasionally the conditioner and suncream from this range - http://drzoo.com.au/pet-skin-products.html Be sensible with the sun and treat him like you would a child - cover up, suncream or keep in the shade. Luckily mine aren't real sun bakers and I go to the beach in the evenings with them. flame ryder Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Hello Fergiesmum. I am a Crestie owner too. Pretty much what CrazyCresties said. I don't do much to my boys skin. Bath once a month, cream if I think he needs it and for the occasional rash I use pawpaw ointment. If you use any of the good baby type cleansers or creams you cant go wrong, I figure if it's good enough for a newborn baby then it's good enough for my dog. Coconut oil is good too. You'll need a nice range of clothing for winter :) My boy has more clothes than I do. There are plenty of Chinese Crested FB pages if you need any further advice...and I like to look at the pics of all the other Cresties. You see so many people saying they are a high maintenance breed...I don't know why they say that, mine is easy. There seems to be alot of talk about blackheads on the groups...well I dunno even know what they look like, do they mean the pimple type bumps? Anyway whatever...just leave them alone, dont poke or prod them, leave them be and all should be ok. I dont think they are anymore prone to them than any other breed, if you shaved all the hair of any breed of dog back to bare skin I bet they would have a few skin blemishes too. A little scrub with Arebonne exfoliator (if my husband knew how much that was he would kill us both . lol) and a teatree shampoo (cheap n cheerfull somone donated) And he will get some coconut oil once the school run is done. I am familiar with crestie teeth issues but not well read . So thank you . I have s Tzu cross which has teeth that looks like a car crash. He has had 10 removed so far. I am trying to save the last one at the back but its not looking or smelling good. My Tzu is a rescue. We have been fostering for 3 years so are WELL versed in teeth.....the most common and expensive ailment. I will do a close up of the balackheads flame ryder........there are thousands!!! Zeddy has not been well socialised with big dogs. We actualy have to leave a park on the weekend as he carried on like a pork chop.
