natural remedies recommendations

I'd like to try some natural remedies for Zelda's issues with her runny nose etc rather than all the meds being pumped into her atm which seem to be having little effect and don't actually address the issue.

I have been doing lots of reading up on homeopathic ingredients and it seems it maybe the way forward.

So far i have emailed a few herbalists and they have come back with a massive list of products i should buy from them , so before i jump i thought i would ask if anyone had any recommendations for the Sydney area?

I'm also looking at an air purifier .

That’s the problem we face:  people are out to sell their products and we are generally not qualified to judge the efficacy or otherwise.  That said, I really believe that consulting with a business in Melbourne referred to me by Valbitz, saved Danny’s life.

They are closed today and can be a bit hard to get hold of.  Their original suggestions to me, after a long conversation on the phone, were in a beautiful hand written letter - LOL - so they are of the old school.  They are a husband and wife team who are very committed to their business and to their customers.  However, I’ve used their contact us section on their website and never received a response.  So it is best to phone them.  Valbitz used to buy from them what I needed and send it up to me because that was quicker than ordering online.

I’d def talk to them before you go ahead with a huge shopping basket of goodies.  Mind you, I did end up with a fairly large shopping basket, but it certainly turned Danny around and we had another nearly two years together during which time, although he had his off days, he enjoyed his life.

Are you aware that the research on homeopathy is that there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective?  In humans it amounts to little more than a placebo benefit - and of course, a dog does not know what a placebo is!

Use natural medicine to support or complement traditional medicine but don't use it to replace it when there is a diagnosed health issue in an animal.

@Danois  and the fact animals DON'T get the 'placebo effect' is why I use homeopathy/natural treatment . I have, over the years used both , seen amazing results , and so will use them again.
For things like Zelda's runny nose, I would not buy online though ..visiting a reputable vet who uses 'alternative' methods  is essential :)

Humans can get the placebo effect on behalf of pets though. You can think something is benefiting your pet when it isn't.

Are you still having the same symptoms Juice? If so it would suggest that there is still something environmental at fault. And I think you'd be better off working out what that is.

You could also return to the vet to reasses the treatment protocol or take her file to another vet for a second opinion.

Juice have you stopped using all those air fresheners around the house.  I hope so.  The moment I am near one of those things, I start sneezing, coughing, runny nose - etc. to me they are poison.

Posting this made me recall the time I used to go to Enfield Vets when they were the pound.  It took me ages to find out why, that every time I went into reception I would start sneezing and coughing.   They had a clock which used to puff out scented air freshener !!!!

yes!

However ..  with clearly visible efffcts , eg:when a sheep will only relax & eat after a dose of Rescue remedy ( repeated several times a day )
When an old cat with diabetic neuropathy  starts walking better and regains some muscle tone
When a horse's wound clears up and heals
When a goat with bad mastitis clears up rapidly after using colloidal silver ..

That sort of thing    gives me confidence :)

Yes D I have stopped using them . I am also putting her outside again during the day , although she is very unimpressed , as it all seemed to start after I lost Ozz and let her inside 24/7.

She is still on antibiotics . 7 weeks in and last week we weaned her off the Pred and left 5 free days where the green snot just got worse and since Friday she has been on Metacam aswell with no impovement .

the specialist is not back from hols till weds , so hoping we catch up then .

I have also ordered an air purifier for the house .

My thoughts on homeopathic medicine is , allergies are the immune system going into overdrive , the meds she is on surpresses it , we want to regulate it not suppress it so it works as it should and natural remedies seem to do that .

I am having the carpets cleaned , although I only have 2 rugs in the lounge , and the rest of the house is vinyl anyway .

Oh .. I thought there were processes that just used steam :(

I’m sure there are those who SAY that, but I have become very suspicious of all claims of pure, green, clean, organic, etc etc etc :)  :)  :)

It’s like those items which are supposed to get rid of 99% of germs.  So do good old fashioned hand washing and water

Just read it and it makes sense . I'm waiting for carpet cleaner to pop around and give me a quote so will check the chemicals . I was also going to get the couch covers dry cleaned so will check what they use too . Her bed came from the states and it's too big to get in a machine to wash so need that steam cleaning too as I have sprayed the foam freshener on it as it said you could on label .

I had a guy when I lived in Western Sydney who only used water / steam. Prided himself on his crazy expensive machine - it was pretty amazing! he's get a full shopping bag of ikk (about half a fox terrier I think) from a clean looking carpet & you could walk on it in 10 minutes time.

Sadly doesnt do it any more so can't pass details on
