  1. I work with Joanne's husband. Joanne has helped me in the past so I can personally suggest her. She also has enough degrees that Corvus should be happy. I would also suggest strongly that dogs and baby and kept apart until help.
  2. Not sure if this will come out right as I have been sitting outside drinking wine, lol. I bred my first (and only) litter 10 year ago. I had one disease to worry about and there was no DNA testing it was done on parentage. I had a nice bitch, who I titled in obedience. I got help from my breed club in picking a male. There was no questioning about whether I intended to improve the breed etc etc. I don't think my mentor even asked why I was wanting to breed. I had a litter because I wanted the experience. Did I get Hip tests done? No. I had the vet give her hips a feel. 20 years in my breed and I don't know one dog with HD. A couple with OCD but that could be because they go too hard as pups. Why is this all so hard now? Is it because I read DOL and I know all the things I should be doing? Surely it shouldn't be this hard? Even the market annoys me. I would prefer my pups go to pet homes. The only pup I sold to a show home last time didn't end well. Wouldn't want to do that again. The pet homes though called me with tears to ask if I was still breeding as their beloved pet had passed and they wanted another of my breeding. Breeding for pet homes is a no-no. Why is it now so hard to breed puppies?
  3. Do you find the dogs sit at the fence staring at the sheep day Dova?
  4. I wonder if he's dropped off through the front door? That is what I was thinking.
  5. It does sound like he has a reason for wanting to be in the house though. I wonder if he is looking for his mum?
  6. You also have a limited time in which to get the message across
  7. One of my dogs couldn't care less about dogs rushing up, one has personal space issues and the other is a little bit timid. The offlead place I have been going to is actually a path by a river not a park. It is quite hard to give people space in that circumstance. All of my dogs loveeee people and I usually spend the walk yelling at them to leave people alone. Unfortunately it is not just dog loving folks that go there. I actually think it is rather insane that it is an offlead area. Apart from walking your dog offlead at heel it is virtually impossible to respect people's space.
  8. Cool so I personally think that Behaviorist-trainer-that-works-with-bitey-dogs is a good title!
  9. Woohooo SmoothieGirl How exciting. Hope there is the right puppy there for you.
  10. Probably best to speak to a lawyer. If you were in a de facto relationship it is not as simple as 'this is mine, that is yours'. Much better if you can get the dog with his cooperation.
  11. You did a responsible thing but you are allowed to be a little sad about the 'what ifs'. Doing the right thing doesn't always make you the happiest.
  12. I guess everyone needs different comfort. I prefer people to distract me with talk about different things. I really don't like talking about things like that to people.
  13. I'm not doubting your recommendation, but I'm just wondering why you would make this distinction? (I have some ideas, but I'm interested in your answer). I don't think the AB could deal effectively with a bitey GSD and K9pro would probably rather not deal with Snookums K9Pro deals very effectively with Snookums.. I've seen him do great work with a timid poodle. I have no doubt he does. I am doing him a favor though not inflicting him with Mumsy & Snookums
  14. I think it was worded perfectly adequately.
  15. I did not say that antihistamines will fix all allergies either. What I said was "Antihistamines will only work if it is an allergy". Note the "if".
  16. That is not strictly true, my dog has real bad allergies but Polaramine does NOT a thing to help him when he is real bad. Zyrtec does help but not very effective when he is bad in summer, he is on antihistamines and low dose of pred ( cortisone) at the moment and he is still bad. Aussielover Mason started showing allergy symptoms around 9 months, although before this he had constant tummy problems as a pup which we now know is food allergies as well as his allergies to pollen, dust, insects etc. Actually it is strictly true. Not all antihistamines work for all dogs, the only one that helps mine is Zyrtec, you cant try give a dog antihistamines and say 'oh well they did not help therefore it cant be an allergy" that is just not the case. Sorry i really disagree with you here. I have a highly allergic dog and this is the case for him. He has allergies, its been proven by blood and allergy tests - most antihistamines dont work for him - now that does mean he does not have allergies?? I dont think so. Aussielover loads of allergic dogs get staph infections - luckily for me my dog has not had one. Perhaps you should read what I wrote a bit more carefully. I said antihistamines would NOT work on a staph infection. Were exactly did I write that if a antihistamine doesn't work then the dog doesn't have allergies?
  17. Not the itchiness from the infection. I just had an infection it was bloody itchy and I am on antihistamines. They don't cure itchiness, they work on the histamines that the body produces. Personally I find antihistamines aren't a 100% guaranteed cure. Most of this year they have only taken the edge off for me. You also have to muck around with all the different brands. I was taking polaramine for hayfever and it did nothing for a allergy to shampoo. Zyrtec is working well on my dogs that have had some allergy problems with wandering jew.

  20. The animal behaviorist I know has a degree in Zoology, a PhD in Animal Behavior and a diploma in counseling. I would still recommend someone with a bitey GSD to call K9Pro rather than them. I would recommend this person to someone with a naughty white fluffy that bites every time Mumsy tried to get Snookums off the bed.
  21. Funny you posted this as I am sitting here currently regretting making the same decision 2 years ago. So make sure that you really want to do this as well there is no going back!
