  1. Can i have a link to the Rally-O video pleassseeee? I was trying to explain it to some people today.
  2. I am not really having a problem with the advert either. She has only had them for 2 months so IMO isn't the 'dog dumper' that would be the previous owners. We have no idea how she came to have the dogs. Sounds like she might have bitten off more then she can chew. What she hasn't done is take the easy out and dump the dogs at the RSPCA. So for that good on her.
  3. Congrats Rubystar on your first jumping trial and your wins Congrats amypie on the title Congrats to xena98 and DogSportObsessed on the passes!
  4. Sometimes the freeze happens when flight or fight aren't possible.
  5. Good luck for the weekend trials Croydon trial had 26 in CCD and 17 in CD. 24 in open split into 2 rings (but not depending on title).
  6. When I go into a trial I am really only interested in the pass. I like to get the highest possible score but not so that I can win but so that my work is good. So I really don't care about trophy hunters. They only get to go in a certain number of times. Competing against good people helps you to lift your game too. None of the people that placed in the CCD at Croydon were experienced triallers Trophy hunting type talk can only hinder a sport IMO. My trial group are only having 1 week off from training so I guess we are fairly nutty Busy sipping on a rather nice Pinot Gris!
  7. Ok whose been drinking then??? Had a great night of training last night. Poppy didn't put a paw wrong. Amber did some nice prancy work. The judge was surprised by her age. I had been working her off lead before her turn and just continued that way, so pretty happy with her. Brock had a go too and he was pretty good, judge even thought he could have a whirl in the CCD ring Played with positions on the move and he did that pretty well too. And that was all in the rain!
  8. You can't avoid other dogs, you need dogs around for the distraction to train alternate behaviour which is the problem most owners are faced with. You can train in a dog free environment some wonderful focus exercises with great success, but it's difficult to override a strong fear reaction in a dog with commands learned in a stress free environment. But you need to use the dogs in a controlled environment with sensible handlers. Not idiots walking their dogs off lead in an on lead space that insist on their dog saying hello to yours. Megan try singing when you see an off lead dog. That might help your stress levels. Hard to stress and sing at the same time.
  9. Sounds just like me, except I was never dog aggressive pre-medication  ;)
  10. She only does it in the ring and only from the start pole Actually not sure if the ring being up makes a difference. Can test that on Wednesday. Actually I have start poles here! Will see what she is like at home too.
  11. I agree that drugs should not be discounted. I had a little pup that was the most miserable thing I have ever seen. She looked like a grumpy 20 yo dog that just wanted to die. Was both dog and people aggressive. A couple of weeks on prozac and she was a new dog. It is also amazing what imbalances in vitamins/minerals can do to a creature.
  12. I've got ones that you put in the ground individually. (not on a plate). The poles aren't comp height.
  13. Only just realised she is doing it. I've only had 3 training sessions were I've been not freaked out enough to think what is going on. The day I realised we tried verbal encouragement, tapping leg and luring. That didn't work. Then I played with marking the very first step and that worked well. Then marking the third step etc. That worked well. Maybe that will work and it just wasn't enough time before the trial to change the behavior. She 'likes' the post as when heeling near the post will veer towards it. Something else to work on. I am happy that I am know ok enough in the ring to work on things
  14. Yep does the same at training. Any time I walk off from a post.
  15. she only does it from the post though? Doesn't matter which side of the post I go on.
  16. Lets not forget that agility training is done OFF LEAD. No dog is onlead for any part of training at my club. AD said the dog dragged its owner 3 metres to get to the other dog. So either the owner was holding on to the collar at the time of the attack or it was onlead. Either way the dog could drag the owner. That is dangerous.
  17. I do charge my 'yes' word. I think apart from charging the 'yes' it starts to create that bond between dog and handler. Ok thinking now about training and what needed to be approved on yesterday! Recall presents. I do all the close presents in training. But it isn't transferring into nice presents in a trial situation. I have my hands in front in the same place as if I had food. One reason I think is Poppy wants to see my face so she likes to sit a bit further away. I also can't get a consistent straight finish. The other weird thing is maybe our first 4 steps off from the post she goes wide and then comes back in. During the last week I was rewarding heavily for the first step. Didn't translate into the trial though. So she is sitting at the post giving me focus. We step off and she looks away, no tail wagging, 4 or so steps in I get the focus back and tail wagging. Really weird. Means she is usually wide on the stand for exam. I did my recall up the other end and had a lovely lead up. Any ideas on those 2?
  18. My immediate concern is that the dog can drag the owner to get to other dogs. I know you are a positive club but how are you addressing that? It really needs some gear on it that gives the handler control. Even for out of the club. Or it needs a muzzle.
  19. I was impressed with my K9 Softcrate yesterday. It certainly stayed a heap cooler in the crate. They have an insulated roof.
  20. AD speaking now as a handler - I would go nuts if this dog was allowed off lead in a class I was in.
  21. I've been chomped this year by 2 different Chi x. Feisty little things.
