  1. I was tempted to package up some of the "composted" poo and send it back to them but.. eh. I think they have some bullsh*tty disclaimer on their website about clay based soils not providing the "best" of conditions for it to work. Now, we just use poo to fill in the holes that FF Jelly digs for us. For some reason, those filled in holes never smell FF Jelly has probably aerated them beautifully
  2. I hope you related your experience to the company, Maddy? As I say, these contraptions are just a way of getting people parted from their money.
  3. Another reason for me to move south. I am sure Tammy will find loving arms very quickly.
  4. Malamute X Ridgeback . Some people need to be very severely chastised.
  5. Well for a start, you didn't need the PVC pipe as that would have left only the size of the circle for the earth to work. Just dig a hole and if you think that isn't going to be enough, then rake in leaves and garden litter. And if you still think that won't work, get a bag of garden soil and sprinkle some over every time you give the hole a deposit.
  6. Wonderful photograph. Those dogs look so happy, invigorated, loved, being allowed to be dogs ........ every thing that so many dogs are missing out on in today's world. And the little one ---- is this the pose you want, or should I tilt my head the other way?
  7. I am experimenting with so called biodegradable bags and putting them into the compost heap. If they don't degrade, I will be making a claim on the company for false advertising
  8. I can't believe these things are on the market and I've never really understood the problem people have with disposing of dog poos. These contraptions are Just another very clever way to part people from their money and I can only assume, from the proliferation of designs, that they are successful  If you have a garden, just dig the poo into the garden. If you have a compost heap - ditto. Even if you live in a flat or apartment, there must be gardens of some sort around the complex. Poo is biodegradable - put it in the ground. For my kitchen scraps, I have a little plastic bin with a lid and all my compostable scraps go into that. It never smells, I never use any of the products that are on the market. It just gets emptied into the compost heap every couple of days and rinsed with the hose.
  9. I thought the same, BC Crazy. The dog was jaw droppingly in sync. So much talent amongst dogs and their owners, that just when you think the summit has been reached, along comes another.
  10.  He is a good dog and a smart dog. Perfect timing with the temperatures dropping.
  11. This is what I have done in the past. It does depend a lot on a dog's personality as to,the course of action you take. I like the idea of going to a park and let the younger ones run around and the older ones sniff around - but depends on other users of the park, other dogs etc. I agree with the points that dogs get used to a routine and often the excitement and running to the door/gate when leads are brought out is just habit. So we get the idea that the dog still wants to go for a walk, but really they are just acting out of habit, hence the slowing down not long after the start of the walk.
  12. Yonjuro, as others have said, $1,500 raised is fantastic. And it isn't about just the money - it is about raising awareness and education. You probably did this, but if you didn't, for the next time, plan on having flyers to hand out and cork boards/sandwich boards pinned with information sheets and flyers about the dogs available for adoption. And don't be afraid to stand up with a mike and spruik. I used to bury all my inhibitions and shyness at doggy days.
  13. Thanks, Rappie. I'm glad you are a vet and not a ninja :) . A ninja would not have known that
  14. I will be seeing the vet on Tuesday, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone knew if Aminyllin can cause diarrhoea like poos? Bunter has been on Aminyllin for a while now and a week or so ago, just out of the blue he started having very sloppy poos. I thought it was his diet, so reverted to what he'd been getting for a couple of years - VAN and raw meat and occasional treats of roo jerky or dried roo bones. This hasn't made any difference and the deck this morning was from a horror movie Luckily it was all on the deck and not in the house. And luckily the sun is finally out so the deck can dry out from the scrubbing it's been given. Good thing you are cute, Bunter !!
  15. Stunning pup. I've seen an RR pup grow up walking around my neighbourhood and she is the most delightful dog. Good genes and good owner :) :)
  16. Mojo is looking fantastic for an older dog and obviously had been shockingly neglected previously. I find it hard to believe that someone who would be inspired to take on an old, big dog knowing the chances of having much more than a year with him to give him all the love and comforts deserved would be put off by a price tag.
  17. Hugs, Lhok. No we never forget them, even those who have been gone for many years.
  18. Maybe Gumtree could set out some requirements ?
  19. I know, I'm sorry, SM. I am rubbing salt into my wounds too. I should not go anywhere near stories like this one.

  21. We could say this about anything to do with human wants/needs/desires, really. Money is god and anything that stops people making money is evil. I am still amazed when I see supermarket trolleys laden with goods all packed into plastic bags. You'd have to be blind and dumb and never listen to anything to know the damage these do to wild life. This example could be spread over just about everything we do. As a species (not speaking for those who spend their lives trying to help others and animals), I think we are incapable of thinking past our own comfort and appetites.
  22. I haven't linked the Care2 petition in case I violate DOL rules, but a petition has been started to stop the sale of animals on Gumtree. People may be interested to sign.
  23. I reckon it is the luck of the draw. Honestly I do. Of course if an animal or person gets sick and then looks into diet, exercise, yoga, whatever, that can change things. But in terms of why some people/animals live long lives is pure luck and a helping of good genes.
