  1. My dogs bark at the neighbour next door who comes home at 3am nearly every morning. They are used to barking when cars approach from being at our old house, they were the guard dogs and much appreciated. However at 3am its not so welcomend any more. Especially because once the beagle starts I physically have to go outside and either yell at him to be quiet or if he wont stop put him a crate. Very annoying!
  2. My old dog Sasha once wouldnt stop barking one night, and I couldnt work out why. I would go out the back in the middle of the night and call her name and tell her to be quiet. Strangely though she wouldnt come to me. Wasnt until the morning I went to the garage and she came bolting out of it! Locked her in the garage for the night...whoopsie Ramses has copped it in the chin a few times too. Once when he had bowled me over on a recall, poor darling I always feel bad because the noise it makes is horrible!
  3. Your not a bad owner. My poor dogs are outside in the rain huddling in one kennel because the other one was smashed in the kaffufle yesterday. Ive just bought all of them a coat and will be replacing the kennel.
  4. Oh he is definately intelligent. Comes when he is called and knows who is family is. As soon as he found my sister he ran straight to her. Also when he feels threatened (like when I put in the new backyard for the first time) he hides behind me or Ramses and sticks to us like glue. ETA: Yesterday prior to the animals getting out I was actually phoning around looking to re-home Ted as he didnt appear to be coping well with the change. Today however he is his normal self and is as happy as larry right at home where he belongs!
  5. Trust me my mum was at work manning the phones and laughing her head off at the whole situation! Afterwards I had a good giggle just picturing it..there was a huge crowd gathered at the school while Ted was wandering around casually eating the flowers and garden He had been taken into the school before for news once but that was 18 months ago and he was driven
  6. and I had a heart attack When I got home after work there was kids up the drive way patting Ramses! I cant wait to get the new gate on, all one kid had to do was slightly apply pressure to the gate and the wheel on the bottom would slip and the whole thing would open. Its that useless
  7. I just moved into a new house on the weekend and the gate is crap! Its a metal frome with chicken wire on it and its rrusted and falling apart. Currently saving the pennies to replace it with a colourbond gate. Left for work in the morning with Leila in the 6ft tall pen, Ramses and Ted free range in the yard and Friend on a tether. The gate was shut with bricks against it. Ramses is a good boy and it wouldnt matter if the house didnt have a gate he wouldnt leave the driveway. Leila, Friend and Teddy (Goat) on the other hand are young-uns and love an adventure. I phoned my housemates work to ask her a question and her workmate casually goes "Oh she has ducked out, all the animals got out so she has gone to catch them" Panic!!!!!!!!! Ive raced home from work rushing around the suburb asking has anyone seen a goat and 3 dogs running around..mind you this was 3.00pm in the arvo, and we are surrounded by 2 public schools. Housemate told me they had been seen in my siblings school and Teddy, the goat had gone straight to my sisters room and she caught him. A teacher returned him to our house. Friend had ran into my other sisters room and hopped in her lap, he is my housemates dog and Erynn (Sister) wasnt exactly sure if it was friend or not! So they phoned housemate with the number from his tag and told her the animals were out. Leila wouldnt go on the carpet of the classroom so sat on the lino and enjoyed pats off the teacher. Then the 2 dogs took off. Ramses wandered back home and by the time I checked on Ted he was in the yard eating a lemon from the tree So it was on to find Leila and Friend (DA and extremly fearful GSD and a bold outgoing young beagle) We were driving around asking anyone who we could find had they seen them. We eventually found them after they crossed the busiest road in the suburb and ended up 5 mins away in a stinky old swamp. Leila had jumped onto her kennel, smashed it up and climbed out of the 6ft pen, knocked over the bricks and pushed her way out the gate with the other 2 dogs and Teddy the goat in tow. We caught eventually caught the 2 dogs up and put them back in the yard. The electric fence is back up and all the animals are now secured in the yard. My 2 sisters and my brother are now the coolest kids in school because their goat came into the school and had to be caught Mum had multiple teachers ring her about the incident and having a great chuckle. Poor Ted though he would have been so frightened without the dogs, he hates being alone let alone being round up by strangers!.
  8. What a lovely story!! Im so glad Chi Chi made it through and is now waiting for Jed to come home! How is she coping in her foster home?
  9. Best advice, Wait it out. My boy is 4 and has only had priveliages of a bed in the last 6 months. He would destory everything else and then sleep on the ground. Tough love but he is enjoying the beds these days. Occassionally I hear him having a chew even now and I take it off him for a while and give it back while he is supervised and he doesnt touch it. To this day he will not leave a blanket in his kennel, he drags it out onto the grass.
  10. We have 2 desexed males and 1 desexed female. Works well. The female and the youngest male get on well whereas the oldest male is just the mediator. He tells the younger 2 off when they annoy him and thats about it. They all get on great.
  11. The "owner" didnt even ring up about his dog!!! Rediculous!
  12. Thats a bit sad to think that if I asked for a price range for a pup in the first emails/telephone conversations Id be knocked back by some breeders. Im researching a new breed Ive never considered before and have no idea how much they are worth its something that I wish to find out as a first off type thing before I go spending time and energy on finding a breeder and developing a relationship in order to get a pup.
  13. Absoluetly devestating! Ive experienced a house fire but to have the added loss of pets as well as injuries would have been too hard to endure. I hope Jed pulls through. To have nothing but the frame of the house left would be just so horrific! My thoughts are with Jed and her family! Its so comforting to know in such a dark time for Jed she has so many people surrounding her and her pets.
  14. Good on you for helping! Im glad my partners GSD never attacked another dog or person. She had jumped the fence to get to a person walking their dog to have a go at the dog however parter was outside and has never jumped the fence so fast! Another time she jumped it to chase a person who was walking past. That was the final straw we got a behavouralist in (who was no help at all) and put up an electric fence which has contained her ever since. Works so well it isnt even turned on anymore. I wish other dog owners had the commensense to stop their dogs getting out and to prevent attacks like the one you saw from happening!
  15. I have a lab, GSD and Beagle and my car is a Magna station wagon. Fits all 3 in there nicely and all have an anchor point to tie to which works out well.
  16. If the vet suspected parvo he/she should have carried out a parvo test! To assume something as serious as parvo and only give antibiotics to the owner and tell her to take the dog bag if the antibiotics didn't work. A dog with suspected parvo should be on the drip, first and foremost. This is just pathetic really! I would expect better from a vet and the owner obviously doesn't understand the seriousness of parvo to simply toddle off with antibiotics in tow! Anyone with an ounce of common sense would not allow their dog to go on vomitting and diarrhea for weeks; downright bloody idiotic!!! :p Did you not read the post properly? It wasnt parvo.
  17. I cant believe I couldnt think of that! I couldnt get past the program at work
  18. Maybe but whats it mean? Im ony 18 and havent seen that abbreviation before
  19. Aziah- Yes but she states in the post she was going to ring then back and check up on the pup. That is certainly crossing boundaries when youve only spoken to the owner for a few minutes.
  20. MYOB? To me thats an invoicing program at work
  21. I agree with Cordelia and find it a little bit odd that you have reacted this way when the people are clearly doing something right by having already been to the vet and are now back because the original treatment did not work. Think you need to step back, not be so dramatic and realise the owners are doing the right thing.
  22. This is my fave pic from yesterday. You can see his round belly expanded at full capacity
  23. Will store that info for the future Pers! He is almost back to normal now. Only I now have to put him on a diet to get him back to where he was. This was him on Sunday Morning about 11.30am. We had family photos and he was supposed to be looking healthy and good instead he looks bloated and fat and a tad uncomfortable. At least he performed well and loved having the kids over!
