  1. I second the calendula tea !! Plus , if licked off, it will do him good - unlike most things! Buy the calendula from health food shops . Rinse his feet in the calendula after walks . I would also suggest removing grains and any artificial colourings from his diet :) he sounds like he's found a good person to help him!
  2. they are good feed/water troughs too :) I have seen them in cooler areas with a little air vent and a small door cut out , used as dog kennels with much success
  3. if he is one of the unlucky ones that get an early cancer due to de-sexing or joint and ligament problems he won't be relaxed either. Our family has always had male dogs and all have been desexed. To be honest they have all passed in old age and none of them have had cancer as you state Willem. Me personally, would always have my dogs, either male or female desexed because, even though I buy them through registered breeders, have no desire to show or breed with them. The decision is ours as a family and I envisage this decision will continue My last 4 male dogs were all castrated - None had cancer two lived into old age , two had catastrophic health emergencies and were PTS. All were VERY active - and one only had a luxating patella - due to an injury sustained as a youngster . It was surgically fixed, and he never had a relapse. I have had pet bitches who were speyed ..these all lived into old age with no cancer or joint problems Willem - can you show us what cancers and when desexed dogs get ?
  4. It is still a novelty to have green stuff :) Oh- and a minor flood ..... Thanks for lookin'
  5. The raven/crow was being a tease!! Molly just had to engage in pursuit ;) Mum & daughter Family - Dulcie , Molly & Wags . Mum, dad & molly (daughter )
  6. would you have bought him if the breeder would have told you that there are some issues with this pup as he was born without balls?...or do you think this would be a defect compromising the value of the dog? Do you also consider to crop his ears and dock his tail because there are 'some pros and cons' in it? Why do you think de-sexing would improve the value of your dog?...if you want a de-sexed dog, why not getting one from the pounds? What a rude post to answer a query . the new poster was confused enough ... to reply in a terse and angry manner was unneccesary . What is the 'Value' you speak of ? unhelpful ....
  7. You & the new 'toy' are a pretty good team!! :) Those are very pretty shots.
  8. I have never owned one , and only met a couple - but they strike me as solid, sweet and pretty stable ..and just downright gorgeous ;) This youngster- although he has his fears ( stairs and a couple of other things) settled here beautifully ... and impressed me by immediately settling when his owners sat down for a chat or a coffee .he just lay down and snoozed . He has a BIG bark for a youngster .. when I approached him behind a closed door but then immediately was friendly ... I guess as they were a shepherd/protection dog they needed to be calm and to think of stuff , and live in the moment ? Anyhow ...this boy is off to a good start , and whoever his breeder is gave the owners lots of very sound info and advice :)
  9. She has been on 225mg twice a day since May and they recently upped it to 500mg twice a day because of her upset stomach. She's been on that higher dose for 5 days when it happened. She is 17kgs. From my Googling it seems that later dose is top end of normal but with her liver issues, I don't know. I'm just so confused. This latest Specialist certainly sounded like she knew what she was talking about and she said it was a toxic ( or very close to ) dose. I've checked with my OH and he said yes, she definitely did say that. But I came out a bit bamboozled after talking to her and tbh I just wanted to get Mya :) :) She actually said that the blood test they ran at the end of Mya's treatment came back normal for liver enzymes and questions Mya's original hepatitis diagnosis????? She is going to ask for a copy of the original liver biopsy report and we go back to see her in 2 weeks, so I can ask more questions then. It all a bit of a mess and for now I just want to concentrate on looking after Mya. I'm exhausted. I will talk to my vet but want to be absolutely sure of the facts before I do. Here's a couple of phone pics of my skinny girl this morning. Goodness she has lost weight quickly, it'll be hard road to get the weight back on her, she's not a great eater at the best of times, but we'll get there. 2016-10-15_09-36-30 by Tee Kay, on Flickr 2016-10-15_09-35-59 by Tee Kay, on Flickr And a little video of her walking ( and almost getting pee'd on the head by Luka. Thanks Luka, you doofus  ) Mya's recovery from Metronidazole toxicity. She is walking so much better but still not quite right. by Tee Kay, on Flickr :D so lovely to see her at home again . I think you are both exhausted, confused and need some recovery time ! I am also glad that the current vet is doing some followup .
  10. provided the vet is experienced with tooth extraction ..just pull it :)
  11. Such good news :D Your vet certainly does need to be informed , it was an almost fatal mistake, and hopefully won't happen again if they have it calmly explained, with facts , IN PRINT now! Do we get to see photos of the miracle mya ?
  12. That'd be great! Especially if they understand the Spitz temperament! I live south of Perth CBD, close to Belmont area. ...'quite significant'?... the difference can be extrem! that refers to behaviour, needs, maturing, training, bonding, food requirements etc. etc... See, I mentioned that my puppy is a Spitz and they are more independent and stubborn than working dogs and my trainer told me that basic principals are the same (she's probably right) and I must be doing something wrong at home (then she suggested that she does home visit because she needs to see what the dog is like and that I'm probably misinterpreting his behavior - all fine but just a little hard sell especially considering she hardly deals with him in class) :/ Also she's never heard of Japanese Spitz before... eems a new trainer /school is the go ;) It's nice to work with somebody who knows dogs .
  13. quite well, apparently :) We used have an OESS ..and she always had her fringe, even when the rest of her was clipped very short :)
  14. Just a few days ago there was a poster who very nearly fell for a similar scam Fortunately they asked a question on D O L first ;)
  15. castration if possible ....tho, at that age , he will probably still 'want' to ! I have had castrated when mature dogs behave worse than the entires!!
  16. A very special visitor :) A 7 mth old BRIARD , with the sweetest temperament , and softest coat ( which is a burr magnet ) ...Oh - he was here with his very very proud and loving owners , and apparently has an impressive family background , and lovely sire & dam . What a pleasure ! Mind you , I am so thankful he is a sweetie , as within 5 minutes of him arriving , he found a chop bone someone else has thrown away (grrr) , and had a piece very well lodged across between top molars . My first contact with him was to grab his muzzle ,and throw a hand into his mouth ! I did think there may be a vet visit needed ... the darn thing was wedged SO tight ..but luckily he didn't wriggle, and I eventually flicked it out! My visitor of the week!
  17. lamb flap , sardines in oil, eggs, ox cheek ,,minced raw chicken , a higher fat kibble, where she won't have to eat as much. ( too much kibble may be a cause of bloat ) Of course , this is all provided she has an all-clear from the vet , and has no health probs which may cause it :)
  18. Seems Shoelace's hunch was a good one! Shoelace for president :) for MYA ..and a for teekay
  19. That is SUCH good news :) here's hoping each day will see her a lot less anguished and a lot more comfortable .
  20. Don & Mary playing 'chasey' this morning ...and she just LOOKS larger than him ;)
