  1. perhaps the bed isn't comfortable/thick/soft enough? what is the temperature? was she checked to ensure no puppies were left ? is everything else normal?
  2. I use colloidal silver for lots of things, incl. eyes :)
  3. Oh Dear! there is having a dog rush past you ...and there is just standing there, even patting the dog as it wanders past you and out!! I hope there is some educational input as part of the job training !!
  4. Of course they know :) dogs are amazingly good at reading the smallest of cues .
  5. Ok . What I would suggest ...I have done this on a couple of occasions - with adults - but pups should be easier ? For a few days - EVERY bite of food/drink of water(or use lactose free milk as an incentive) comes from a HUMAN HAND - either holding a bowl, or offering food piece by piece. Obviously you will need to remove water bowls - and make sure Spud has access often . My biggest success was a kelpie bitch we were given . She was described as "not responsive "/won't listen/can't work her ... . She had come from nice people . Lived mostly in a very nice run , alongside other dogs - had a warm coat for Winter - food & water available . the trouble was- humans had no meaning for her - she had everything she needed :) So - for a few days of intense re programming- she was confined /walked on lead/ offered food /water at regular intervals from my hand ONLY . There was nothing else available . She was loved & praised for making contact of any sort .... We had her for about 10 yrs after that - she was so friendly and was a brilliant worker (sheep dog) - tho she did have a few foibles ;)
  6. Dogs can indeed be 'wired wrong' ... what it is named, I have no idea . I have also seen puppies after a birth where they needed reviving- as they grew, they were definitely different - brain damaged due to lack of oxygen.
  7. She has been in care for a while - and they know her inside out by now :) She also looks 'macho' enough to appeal to the male point of view
  8. :) I am not a fan of spoiled and 'prissy' poodles myself - but I have also seen them scruffy and thoroughly getting down&dirty ;)
  9. I know you are asking about buying a puppy - and I know she's interstate - BUT LOLLY
  10. "not a poodle person" may I ask why not? Poodles are smart - and brought/trained like a dog , are resilient, loving and wonderful. they love people , IMO. The haircut - that can be whatever style you want!! You can have an all over clip - or a cute all over shaggy :) friends have had poodles in the country - these rode on the back of motorbikes- accepted other animals into the menagerie- were good with the kids ... :) Attitude of owners ,and an understanding of whatever breed is chosen goes an awful long way to getting the dog you want ;) You are doing a terrific job in researching and discussing :)
  11. I have only just realised how BIG she is :) Beautiful and lucky girl.
  12. Oh Dear - poor Danny - it's hard on an old body when things stop working Hope you found somewhere dry to lay your head
  13. Persephone, may I ask what you use for bedding instead? Obie and Flipp both shred beds as well as soft toys and a few lounges now, I'd love to use something else for bedding that's soft and snugly for Obie being a whippet. Flipp has more chubby to her so is happy with old blankets on the old lounge. I don't mind picking up disembowelled toys but bedding every day is driving me nuts. I'm the neighbour that has been known to vacuum the backyard to clean up the snowstorms! I just use opshop blankets , both wool and that polar fleece I guess your boy needs something soft for his bony self - what about a trampoline bed with a blanket "nest" ?
  14. If I buy stuffed toys- I expect them to stay that way . If a dog rips/chews , they don't get them anymore. :) Don is using toys which have had two owners before him!' I have given up using pillows /stuffed bedding because of snowstorms
  15. I can neither spell, nor say 'osteochondritis' - so Thanks for that! Yes, that's it. :) it's a tricky one. Not an uncommon thing - I used to see it a lot when working with labs ..elbow and/or shoulder
  16. So - the dog has osteochondritis dissecans ? is that what you are describing? if it is,it can be surgically treated- and with rest etc may well not be a problem again ... not easy ..but can be done . and the glaucoma was noticed very soon after you took the pup home - ( I spotted this on another site THAT would have been the time to return it , or get legal advice- not 12 mths down the track I think that unless you can prove - lord knows how - that this was a result of the breeding - there is nothing to do ... :/the glaucoma you described as 'congenital" - so she was born with it - BUT it may not be something she got directly from a parent ..may not be ..... congenital is not automatically hereditary , AFAIK.
  17. Hoe disappointing - and expensive - and painful for your dog .. is the breeder is registered with their state's canine council ? did the pups come with pedigree papers/ what is the problem with her leg exactly ? Is it a common thing in that breed ? legally - it will depend on what the breeder;s status is - backyard/puppy farm/ registered with some pet dog breeding thingy, or an ANKC breeder .
  18. I've only ever had them with dogs having that thick undercoat - like labs/sheps/newfs Humidity will work WITH the bacteria ... so clean & dry & aerated is good :) Don't forget to use grooming tools with NO sharp points - and disinfect them, so you don't spread the bugs . raw diet sounds a good plan :) Good luck with it .Oh - I second betadine - both the scrub, and leave- on solution .
  19. I thought that may have been the case , and am glad tara is now settled :) It's still funny though ;)
