  1. yes.. but feeding time is not a time to have them together . Food is a cause for many disagreements/attacks .. and feeding dogs seperately , in different rooms/ crates , takes the stress out of it for everyone No way would I feed a tiny puppy and an adult together ....
  2. How exciting!! :) :) You know what? A puppy trying to jump out of a laundry basket to toilet/get near humans .. can injure itself very easily, or start yipping/crying with frustration . A crate with bedding , placed where you can hear her/reassure her .. and in which she cannot hurt herself sounds to me like a much better option :)
  3. What exactly is she doing? Growling, knocking over , fighting, standing over, mounting , hackling, pushing the small dogs out the way .... ???
  4. Looks as if the owner may need to change his management style to avoid a repeat performance .. castrated dogs can still mark and show agression , too .
  5. sounds like too many/too MUCH dog for the time/energy you have to spare, sadly I have no suggestions, as I am not you ... however , there would only be one of these dogs at my place ;) Hope it all works out.....
  6. Fasting an upset tummy for 24 hrs will not hurt him :) Good luck at the vets ..write everything down tonight ! What he eats, what treats he gets, what cat food he gets, any human food he gets ..... how his poo looks ..how much you notice him drink ...his energy levels ..all that stuff . In a consult it's easy to forget things -and .... hold off on that heartworm shot until he is all well ;)
  7. It was suggested he get boiled chicken & rice or sweet potato/pumpkin. It tastes/ smells better if you boil the chicken then use that water to boil the rice/ veg :) Personally I would not wait til Thurs. grab clean faecal sample to be thoroughly tested and ask your vet puppies can go downhill. Rapidly Keep us posted.
  8. there are many threads on dry foods :) click HERE ..best thing may be to feed boiled chicken and rice or sweet potato and see what his tummy thinks ..then GRADUALLY introduce whatever new food you have carefully chosen .....
  9. Many dog foods have cereal/grains as the first ingredient ..and /or second. Dogs , esp pups, need MEAT first .... so, the foods which have most amount of good protein rich meat will cost more. The thing is.. with a dog food containing easily digested meat , and the vitamins etc ,,there is less wastage, less to pick up in the yard, and , most times, less chance of upset tummies. If you feed either home made or pre packed RAW food ...then dog gets enzymes, real bone, and food which can be seen as more natural :) It doesn't have the colourings/fillers (wheat/corn, etc ) or flavourings added .... Feeding a healthy dog a quality diet is MUCH cheaper than trying to treat tummy upsets caused by grain intolerance, or food colouring allergy ... :)
  10. Run Free little man ... no more confusion or pain... Sorry you lost him ..
  11. ...and if you have a dog with problems , a heartworm shot may not be a good idea. Injecting chemicals is just something else for his little body to work on have you had a faecal sample tested ? What is he like when just fed raw ? I agree with a gradual change if you need to change food .
  12. Glad he's home :) - We have had dogs suddenly lose sight in one eye, and they did not walk in circles ....in fact, we hardly noticed for a little while ! My thoughts are still with something such as vestibular problems , or something caused by a neurological problem. Hope he settles and sleeps happily tonight :)
  13. Awwww... My favourites are the two where they are on the grass ... lying together , and looking at each other .... What a lovely old boy.
  14. They must be pulling damn hard and consistantly to do that much damage. Are you sure this is no genetic compontent? Or perhaps they are unwisely/incorrectly attempting corrections made by famous trainers .. where collars are placed high up on the neck ?
  15. keep the dog calm & cool ..and yes, vet asap. That's all I know.
  16. How useful!! :) :) slight OT .. but I found these invaluable when I was caring for Mum. At night , there was always one within reach somewhere, as some brands have extra button units you can buy! :) Hope Wilma gets some extra TLC today :)
  17. Glad the hydration has helped :) here's hoping for more good news !
  18. Play is for all sorts of reasons anyhow , isn't it? learning, relationship building, stress relief, exercise, enjoying an endorphin kick ..... :) I used to love watching Hamlet .. who didn't play all that often ..wearing a circular track around a certain rosebush as he & any pups would race each other round & round & round , til they collapsed in a grinning, drooling heap :)
  19. wuffles .. I was just wondering about an internal bleed .... it's similar to what my Hamlet was like ....but it was also then evident by abdominal swelling
  20. Dogs definitely enjoy play!! :D ..and yes, it is very often just that - racing around playing chasey , "keepies off' , & good humoured wrestling .!!!! I love watching dogs meet and then suddenly deciding they are friends - racing off to go mad . However .. in some urban smaller 'dog parks' the dogs don't have many ways they can avoid unwelcome attention if their owners do not notice ..and that's what's unfortunate ..a bit like a small kid going to someone's birthday party because parents think it will be socially beneficial ..and their little one gets picked on and desperately wants to go home ... while parents chat and network ;) having our own pack , it's interesting who plays with whom .. who will do free ear/body piercing for whom .. and who is just beyond it all :)
  21. Good idea, Kirislin ! Oh yes ! With a bow :)
  22. that's ok.. just there are a lot of itchy dogs where folks don't see the culprits! At least you know who the enemy is :)
