  1. it is def the rasberries which help ... I have used it with success with piglets and human toddlers :)
  2. Ooh, ooh ..I can post in here now :) :) This is one of my very first iphone pics taken this afternoon!! (yes, there are roos in the photo ..and the long dusty road behind ...) This is Austraalia......on a 35 deg day....
  3. At present, as the vet has explained ..pup needs a low residue /easy to pass food ..soft, and not at all bulky or formed .. Pup does not need to strain at all if possible, those stiches do not need any pressure put on them, lest there is tearing , etc. ... and canned food does this, as it has lots of water in . Meat/mince , esp with bone, will be dryer and harder to pass .. and dry /fibrous food adds bulk, which may stretch the bowel/anal muscles . My two cents worth ? I would stick to the canned until you see the vet again...then change gradually onto a better diet , if all is well. having canned food for a couple of weeks will not do any permanent damage to your boy , AFAIK....
  4. So, what exactly is the puppy being fed now? What 'more nutritious ' food do you expect to buy at petbarn? and what exactly did your vet suggest you feed..and for how long? When you speak with the breeder .. tell her what you told us - that you love Cid ..he has been unwell, and now he has had surgery for a prolapsed bowel . keep it simple and honest .. :)
  5. LINK excerpt " its a 32 day tour, so its a long one and shooting in the southwest, its such an amazing place the southwest and we are just touching on what is there but there are a few really special things lined up for that shoot."
  6. Bones And Raw Food :), or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food .... Sounds as if she is doing Ok, really .... if she is getting bones and a calcium supplement , the stuff in her water possibly is overkill ?
  7. what a worrying Christmas. DEFINITELY contact the breeder asap. It is important they are aware of any problems . I have no experience of this condition, but hope it all turns out well for your gorgeous boy.
  8. A mix of meats is fine .. PLUS a CALCIUM source! Those pups will be dragging calcium out of her and she desperately needs calcium from soft /minced bones ..or a commercial supplement . I am very happy if lactating bitches are lean at this stage ..it means that when I start reducing their food, and increasing their exercise, milk will dry up faster, and they will be happy to become active. Can you get a minced chicken carcass mix from somewhere? That will give her nice bone and some fat :) Will she eat sardines? They would be good for her as well :)
  9. :) freeze large ice brick things, or sealed bottle of water . Wrap in a towel and place them near where he sleeps... Hamlet took a while , but these days , in the warm mornings I find him draped over his ice bottle ;) Any baby puppies we have here have ice bricks to sleep on from a very young age ...they just love 'em!!
  10. The a/c in the centre will be running even though the centre is closed. I wondered this as well ..as I'm sure shops would not be impressed if all their goods melted , etc because of high temps... ?
  11. You possibly know better..but to me, his coat/skin look a bit dry , and I would be inclined to hold well off on any chemicals which may dry out remaining oils ...
  12. yes- and another good reason to have a professional observe and offer aid .
  13. Nature's gift isn't really a bad food ... maybe also add a whole egg every couple of days and give him fresh meaty bones like chicken carcasses 3 X a week instead of canned/dry ? I really do think Thyroid test is essential here... as well as a ringworm check (do NOT bath or apply anything for a few days beforehand )then you will at least know ..and can plan accordingly. Much better to treat according to the problem, than waste money on lotions/shampoos etc which are doing nothing , and may be aggravating it . :)
  14. Robert McDowell herbal have an anti inflam/painkiller which doesn't taste too bad .. I have used it for horse and human :) If you speak with them, they may tailor the mix to help with other problems with which this dog is dealing.
  15. Then don't buy a pup, because there is no guarantee if how it will turn out when mature. If you want to know exactly what your dog will be like, get an adult that has been thoroughly assessed as a mature dog. My advice for you is to get the pup you are waiting on, and forget getting another dog in the mean time. What's the rush? Every dog regardless if where it is bought from deserves its own time to be settled in to the family. So unless there are really good reasons why you need to get two dogs around the same time, don't go looking for two. Get your collie pup, and have fun with it socialising and training and having friend's dogs visit. Once you've gotten to know your dog well, and it has matured, then decide what traits you want in a second dog.
  16. Pesh, I do like the daisy, and , dogfan that pink flower is lovely!! This an old door lock in a ruined building ....
  17. First off, I would suggest a thorough check up , eye/vision check, and hearing test ....., then maybe a consult with a behaviourist like jane harper?
  18. Oh gosh..... mites, thyroid, ringworm ...... a vet visit is the only way unfortunately. Curash will only help if the spot is wet & mucky ... That 'lotion' may also be useful for wet excema/hot spots ..being Tea tree oil and Boric acid ..but it will not be useful in dry skin., hair loss, AFAIK. What diet is this dog on? Skin things are so difficult ....
  19. Hey, MtS ..I am sorry Buddy needed to be put away from his pain..but now he is over the bridge and pain free. After having him around for so long, you will miss him a lot Take care ..and hug your other guys :)
  20. Welcome :) What daily training are you doing with your juvenile delinquent? Pups need a few minutes spent on manners every day .. and they need constant reminders that recall/paying attention to the human when they speak , is a Very Good Thing! I will strongly suggest that your pup and you will benefit from these two things ... they will help you realise your dog is all dog ..and doesn't think as a human does , and they will help your dog realise that humans are the all powerful, and provider of good stuff------------------- and that the DOG is responsible for how much good stuff he gets!! LOL Triangle of Temptation Nothing In Life Is Free have a read HERE as well . a couple of points your dog is not seeking to dominate you and your household forever. your dog will unfailingly do the 'correct thing' if his reward is great enough ( and rewards can be a simple pat , or playing with a ball/tug toy) . Your dog will often learn bad habits MUCH easier than good ones, because we humans encourage it :p I also suggest feeding your pup outside .. giving him a big bone outside ..and having pup friends who are gentle come and spend time outside with him... there will be others with advice ... and I hope that you & your pup can get a better understanding of each other :) I am thinking (and it may not be correct, as I have not seen your pup )..that your puppy is simply doing what puppies do a lot .. do submissive mouth licking of adult dogs .This starts when cubs/pups are young and being weaned.. they lick/bite at a parent's mouth, and the parent then regurgitates food for the litter . It is an instinct :) A lot of adult dogs will still do it to other dogs ... meanwhile sending out body language that says, in effect ..." Hi, it's just me - I mean you no harm ..aren't I cute and inoffensive?"
  21. I actually that outfit .. I think a schnauzer girl models it well ! :p
  22. Yes .. 5 kids was it? A new dog, then a new puppy = an awful lot of re adjusting for everyone over several months ....
