Turkey necks can be HUGE :)

Thanks folks... yes, we have multiple dogs ...but they are all individuals... she was wacky :) I will miss her carry -on About the only snakes we get here are browns ... so presumably that's what it was. There are so many watering spots around about... away from dogs ... I guess sometimes the snakes just go to the closest... just in our yard (mind you, it's an acre) there are 6 water points that the dogs hardly use .... then there are 3 troughs all within 50 mtrs of the house ... I need more guinea fowl!!!

:) Don't chop & change .. she gets what she gets..and if it's not eaten , then she gets nothing else til next mealtime..esp no treats ! :) I have never had a fussy dog, so am not very helpful

'Oi' Funny looking, crazy dog ...she couldn't greet anyone without her chewed up soccerball in her mouth..she loved to hear her own voice ...and was such a good worker .! Middle aged only ..just starting to settle into seriously good thinking and being pro-active... She was chained in the best spot, under a huge pine tree, where she had been born, actually ! She always had cool sand and shelter from the cold southerlies there ..she hated a kennel ..would rip up her bedding and sleep curled up in a little 'den' she dug. Obviously this morning, a snake also found the cool sand attractive... and didn't want company. :( Oi, Oi will be very much missed , and leave a hole in the team of workers. I hope she has found her family members over the bridge , and maybe also a chewed up plastic soccer ball .

I hope you send them in to the newspaper or somewhere...they are just brilliant!! :)

Calcium Supplement With Magnesium
persephone replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
:) Thanks for the info . There are probably one or two magnesium types most suitable for the canine metabolism.. perhaps try the colloid one? The one I have here is a chloride base , so tastes amazingly salty and not pleasant ..but only very small quantities would be needed . Blackmores put out Mag Min tablets..they are an aspartate ..less likely to cause diarrhoea. magnesium+ Calcium can be found on DOLOMITE Tablets (humans) . just saw your bit , trifecta epsom salts /magnesium sulfate will cause diarrhoea..good for plants, not so good for mammals ;) -
Stitch, would Triangle Of Temptation work , perhaps? :)

Calcium Supplement With Magnesium
persephone replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why do you feel they need magnesium supplements? not trying to be rude ..it's just that AFAIK there is a fine balance between calcium/potassium/magnesium ... and there can be problems with calcium absorption if mag. levels are high ..and mixing up ratios can do odd things ( heart rhythms etc , in humans anyway ...) I believe magnesium deficiency is very rare ? Would hate anything to happen to your girls .... -
:) and worn out from his scare earlier, too

hard to decide ..if he was bleeding a lot ..def. vet . re: tetanus ... Our dogs work in & around sheep yards with rusty tin/wire/nails/dirt /manure .. they are forever getting stuck/stabbed/cut/scratched ..and have never had tetanus it is usually deep punctures which aid the clostridium bug..as it is an anaerobic one ..and likes dark airless places .. if this is, as you say, a 'nick' which has bled a little , and been cleaned , I think the risk would be minimal (disclaimer..I am not a vet ) I suppose if you can afford it , and are very worried .. take him to the vet .. (and maybe get him a sedative for tonight as well ?) :) just NOT 'A C E' / A C P

No problems here :)

do dogs really "need" flaxseed oil, etc if they get meat with fat, offal, veg matter/eggs, and some fish?

Moved To A New House With No Grass...
persephone replied to Inka3095's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not much help to you at present ..but I suggest teaching your dog to toilet on command.. not in response to texture under her feet . :) It makes life so much more relaxed for everyone .. and is not normally hard to do - just use a word as your dog toilets ..and praise at the end of it ( this, like a lot of commands / new lessons seem to work better when there is not a continual conversation happening ;) ) Then, say the word as dog begins to toilet , then when it sniffs/circles, then when you reach a suitable area .... It's such a great thing!! I often giggle at night here ..3 dogs and two cats all going "quicks" before bed :) Oh..and I would give my dog lots and lots to drink .. no lactose milk, chicken stock ..water ..and know she would go on the dirt eventually ;) -

Thank you. I had only activated the phone about 3 hrs previously ! It's a learning curve, alright :) :)
-
Just remember acouple of important things : start training the minute pup comeshome .... as in ... this is your toilet schedule ..every 20 minutes, or whatever ..and be consistent! Do not fuss over puppy a lot. START AS YOU MEAN TO CONTINUE! if you spend teh first week continually carrying/cuddling /talking to puppy ..... that is how he will think loife should always be . ;) Make sure puppy has time away from physical contact /eye contact ... learning to spend 10 minutes or so alone with toys/bones is a vbery important thing at this age :) Do you want pup to be on teh furniture? If NOT.. then do not reward him for jumping up..or putting paws on the couch, etc ....

Hard to pick faves..but I do keep coming back to those sneakers :)

Oh, and , please, always CHECK INGREDIENTS in human medications before using them ON or IN dogs .While a lot of medicines can be used safely .. an awful lot can not ..so please check , either here or with a vet or on Google for individual ingredients .......

Definitely a cool rinse..and an antihistamine ..and a vet visit tomorrow . Unfortunately, when they army crawl etc , they can open th eskin and let in bacteria..infection may then follow and things get nasty It looks much like a contact allergy. Look up wandering jew/dew..it's a garden plant to which many dogs react. Think about what you have used on your carpet /when washing his bedding /sprayed on the garden . Are there bark chips , or different grasses? Allergies are such a difficult darn thing

Random Person Taking The Dogs Photo

Agreed. I wonder how many do it, and do not make themselves known to owners ?..That would be my concern, and keep me very much out of the public eye wherever possible... -
