what motion sickness treatments do you have for them? The ferry can be rough sometimes. I don't think there are paralysis ticks along that coastline - but I'sure Google can help you :)Better safe than sorry - checking is my recommendation. -

just in case ? Unfortunately it doesn't work as easily as that if you give your dog heartworm preventative tablets and they have NOT been tested ... it could end badly There is a risk of severe side effects because of worms already in the bloodstream ..and also any adult worms in the heart are not killed as are the tiny microfilariae. Please contact your vet before doing anything. Oh- you're going on Sunday . .... -
I also tend to think there is more than 'fussy', and would suggest you get her checked by a specialist . <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17.600000381469727px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247); ">has she been crate trained? Is she settled at other times ?
-
Not sure ..but I have always been told to let them drink to help dissolve it and swoosh it through.... rest is most important....they will be feeling a tad uncomfortable, and hopefully sleepy.....

This thread needs pinning!! (so do that's dog's ears :p :p ) Nekh..she's got drive & initiative ..good points, no? :D

I am accepting- it's what dogs do. yes I do take precautions as much as I can ..long lines/fences/keeping dogs contained/muzzles ..however things still happen from time to time, and it is usually a result of human error.

Oh...and Ronah , No one is calling you an abusive owner . What is meant by myself and others is that your method of dealing with the behaviour is both badly timed, and meaningless, for the dog - plus being confusing for her. Once again - you say you know dogs 'live in the moment', however your way of reacting to the shock you received involved 'the cold shoulder' long after the behaviour occurred . A lot of times , as dog owners, we need to deal with being upset at our dog's actions, while keeping to normal behaviour where the dog is concerned . It can be very tricky ! I hope you can find a good trainer to help you and your dog understand each other , and enjoy safe walks.

Mo4 we do need photos, you realise!
-
That is normal behaviour :) well done! - but do not trust that it will be 100% safe - :)
-
:) Thank you for updating , and I'm glad there is good news!. I hope it continues- well done!

if you did read posts in the training forum ..you would see things such as your problem discussed :) You have been given advice - keep your dog on a long line - seek help- keep training recall , etc. unfortunately, you didn't let us see that in your first post The bolded bits were the ones I took as being written by someone who was unclear on parts of dog behaviours ,had just suffered a big shock , and had learned a hard lesson.

to the OP: last year, we had some pups- 3-4 mths old . We lost about a dozen guineafowl from our free range flock - and thought The wedgetail eagles did it . One day I caught the pups catching and eating their organic/free range dinner My fault entirely. pups were then contained, , not punished ..and closely supervised when out!
-
No she doesn't - she is a dog with prey drive ..and knows these are easy prey. Breathe again. Now - try & stop projecting human thoughts/rules onto your dog - that is not how they think :) You have been really fortunate today - and have learned a lesson many people have yet to - that pet dogs are still predators, and still have instinct - and teeth! Dogs should be respected for these abilities and instincts - like they are for their intelligence and ability to bond with humans :) It is up to us owners to make sure our dog's instincts are channelled , and that our dogs are kept safe and happy. She is not the devil..she is the same gorgeous girl you hugged this morning.
-
Breathe!! she is a D O G . Dogs are predators , and most of them are very capable of killing other animals . people tend to forget this fact. Unfortunately you, in your panic, pinned her at the exact wrong time...and I hope that now her recall, and trust is intact. I suggest your dog stays on a nice long line when out & about , until you obtain good advice about trying to proof her with reptiles. Hug her and love her ..she has not done an evil thing - she has done a dog thing.

*nods* .I have only ever seen one case of testicular cancer in 'bush' working dogs ..and that dog was around 14 yrs old, with a retained testicle, sitting in the abdomen.

The sad thing about distemper is that they can recover from the initial illness - but then suffer brain damage /seizures down the track We had this many years ago. -
