  2. :) IF he will chew on them :p a lot of dogs are sensible and refuse to chew on synthetic toys ,(which are mostly marketed to be appealing to the human eye , by the way) ....... Will he chew on an apple? (wash, but leave peel on). he can also play with apples ..roll them around and chase them like balls ..and then sit down & have a nibble ! I love using them as puppy toys .
  3. cottage cheese is really not classed as 'something to chew' If you are interested in learning more about what foods contain the nutrients needed ...and read about other's experience in feeding all sorts of diets .. CLICK HERE :) Snowy is lucky having such a concerned owner... but just remember , worrying does neither of you a favour ....

I have been thinking of you today ...and am glad you have heard from Jane at least. Good luck to you and all your furries ..hope you now have a period of peace .
  5. So - she does it while you're there? Little horror :p does she have a really special treat ball or chew object that she could only have when inside ?
  6. Either third or second for portrait :) I love the second one, actually! That first one has so many great angles/shadows! ..and interesting broken windows ..old poles with porcelain insulators- lots of good stuff! :) What happens when you crop certain areas to get those angles featured? Does it look different ?
  7. LOL!!Least you have littl'uns. I used to do similar with labs ...
  8. there is Koehler discussion ... in THIS THREAD.... :)
  9. Why bother? if he does NOT throw up...then he is just like the millions of other normal dogs :p
  10. yes ! A lot of behaviours which are normal for dogs ..are also not acceptable when those dogs are in close confines /living with humans, in houses. To a lesser extent, behaviour like protecting resources, marking objects, digging beds/dens are normal canine things..but not what owners want happening in their houses/around their families.
  11. having him empty one day will not cause an ulcer .... and when fasted , all dogs have some acid/liquid in their stomachs ..don't panic! :) *breathe* !! Ask your vet about giving the 'supper' biscuit ...and follow his/her advice. :)
  12. It is for Snowy's safety to be fasted. Sometimes dogs throw up ..and if there is food in the stomach when they do , this may then go into the lungs...which is a very bad plan So, an empty tummy means much less risk of trouble! Snowy throwing up a bit of stomach acid/bile is nothing drastic ..he is just cleaning out his tummy .... and so I would not suggest giving him anything at all!
  13. The rose is a blackboy climber ...it has absolute masses of trailing branches, full of scented flowers ..a real rush first thing ..but they don't last long, as you can see by the petal 'carpet' . I then cut it back fairly hard ..and let it do its thing again - poor thing was planted where I thought it would be a big shrub ..didn't realise it was such a very vigorous climber .The scent and masses of flowers are just gorgeous, though. :)
  14. if you are concerned.. dab betadine around ear margins ..it is anti fungal.. but a vet check is wise .Fly bites can cause a similar problem ..they suck out the blood and chew on teh ears , which scab and get crusty... but there may be another cause,
  15. have you read the whole thread? The OP was the first one who raised the PTS option ...and we have strongly suggested she gets a professional assessment before making any decisions. Many of the people who have posted here have worked in rescue, or trained dogs, or have had experience with large breeds.... You are right - which is why an assessment is called for. ..and if it is ONLY these two dogs not being able to co exist peacefully ..then the owner may well make other plans. Once again, consultation with a professional , who will look at things IN PERSON , and with an objective and very experienced eye will help take the pressure off the distraught owner , and help explain things to her. Unfortunately I have seen first -hand the unacceptable behaviour of dogs bred for things other than household pets ...and have also been blessed to have had one of my most gorgeous dogs from a definitely non-pet oriented breeding . Large dogs who may be either pushy , or defensive are not for inexperienced or impulse owners , so care needs to be taken when rehoming is done - a lot of soul searching is being done here, and the owner is trying the best they can to cope in a very upsetting situation.
  16. It was something a bit different, I thought...he can look sweet sometimes :) here is a play edit :p
  17. For my dog , who was a 40 kg dog , he just had 1 or 2 of those bone shaped biscuits one buys..... What did Snowy chew when he was teething to help loosen his teeth ? often I have found teeth that are a bit slow can be loosened by extra bones not 'crunch & swallow' bones ..rather, 'lie & chew for 20 minute' bones :) Dogs love this ... it helps release endorphins , which make them feel good :)
  18. I had to go back for another look! :)
  19. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 17.600000381469727px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247); ">if YOU stress, so will your dog. Simple. If YOU are uncomfortable /scared /acting different ..this is what HE will feel ..and so, yes, he may be uncomfortable. Millions of dogs have castrations at the vets ... most do not then hate going .... there are ways to help, if that DOES happen , though. Removing testicles, of course removes the source of testosterone ..and so has some effect on later sexually related behaviours. Dogs think and react differently to people. remember he is a DOG , a fluffy ,cute, special DOG ..not a little person who works stuff out like we do, has the same dietary needs as we do , or who will hold it against you when he is castrated . :)
  20. I feed him chicken liver at the size of "50 cent coin" twice daily. Is that a lot? I mean, I mix it together with the meal. Where did you get your dog food recipe ? Chicken liver is probably best fed with other offal ...and not every day . How much rice /veg does he get compared to meat? What does he get to chew? One of my dogs used to vomit very early morning ..just because his tummy was empty ... so, after reading on D O L , I think, he had a biscuit for supper ..no more vomit :) he most certainly had no sensitive stomach ..and was fed anything & everything - lots of bones, fresh meat, commercial dog food, fruit, eggs ....
  21. No one is saying that a behaviourist can 'fix' it...or that this is the route you should take ... What a behaviourist will do is make an educated assessment , and then you have information on which to act, and make whatever decision you feel is responsible.
  22. Not a bad idea for folks who have oops /Xbred litters either ...
