  1. a GSD with a decent coat , provided there is an area which stays dry , would be fine outside , IMO :) Provide a kennel or large cardboard box (like one that carried a fridge ) under shelter ..some chewy things, and interactive toys .. :)
  2. Muzzle (the soft basket type like THIS )when indoors and supervised ..outdoors with old tyres/lots of edible bones , cardboard boxes - toys which make him think/work until you can get an appointmemnt with a recommended trainer/behaviourist the only one I remember reading about on DOL in QLD is Jane Harper. I hope you can get some help soon ..it must be frustrating
  3. just on what you've written ..it almost sounds as if ,sometime, when you have approached like that, at the same time he has has a pain twinge,(maybe standing up , or when hugged) or there's been something which concerned him , and now, that posture of yours brings back those feelings? have you tried..instead of approaching him - and encouraging him to do stuff, as previously - sitting/squatting, and call him to you for a 'hello' , while he's sitting calmly ? treats/hugs ..then just go about the routine .Maybe a change like that could help? Dogs which are excited, like us, can zig when they should have zagged..and tweak a muscle or joint momentarily .
  4. yes, they will.............. however, getting used to one another's presence is NOT automatically being friendly, or being able to be left unsupervised. some dogs, male or female, just do not like certain other dogs, IMO. -
  5. Vet check first , then, if all clear- training again ... I hope he's OK.
  6. the Winter one has had virtually nothing done ... the ant has been cropped a bit, had the picasa 'cross processing-ish' filter applied, and frame.
  7. What did the vet say they found with the ultrasound? Sounds as if a new thorough and caring vet is needed. I think dog needs blood and urine tests to find out exactly what is happening in his body ..., and IMO until those results are evaluated , the owner really has no idea what is wrong .
  8. oohhh lovely markings! Very eye catching :)
  9. what colour will he be? Pally? he is pretty darn cute :)
  10. :) good update ..and I hope that this time, he realises that you will come back , and he will get to sleep in your room :p , and he will be more relaxed.
  11. :) the ranger was doing his job , and that is a good thing.
  12. What an absolutely lovely tribute to your lifelong shadow .... She did, you can be sure :) Rest well, Tara.
  13. great shots :) what a happy girl !
  14. My eyes were a bit too busy, what with slope correction, and focus :p Looking forward to seeing more though .
  15. maybe this would be better observed in a photo with less distracting things like slopes ? Nice colours :)
  16. I don't know enough about it to comment , just it is one of the few HDR that I actually like :)
  17. the salesman (NOT DOG NUTRITION expert) has you buying what he wants you to . ...and the bit I've made bold is untrue .. our dogs eat whatever's in the bowl.. sometimes meat, sometimes whole rabbits, sometimes kibble .... they don't eat- they get hungry. So, they eat. A healthy hungry dog will eat pretty well anything :)
  18. train your pup to toilet on command :) best thing you'll do! start by watching him, and when he poos , say "toilet' or whatever ..and praise him ... do this EVERY time for some days ...then, when you notice him stop...and start to squat,,say your word ... then say the word when he slows down or whatever he does ...then when you are both comfortable with this ..try taking him to a spot he uses often, give him lots of leash ..and just say the word a couple of times ...don't watch him, or anything too intense...and HEAPS of praise if he does something ... I have our house dogs trained to respond to a word ..and it is so funny before bed ..we go outside , and there are several dogs ,and two cats who all toilet , plus a couple of 'free range' puppies have learned by watching ...so they go too :)
