  1. A vet can and will desex a pregnant bitch if the risk of pregnancy /whelping outweighs the risk of surgery. If you suspect this bitch is pregnant , and you do not want a litter ..then please get her speyed asap.
  2. is the bitch ill/on medication? Any chance she has mastitis, or a tummy bug? Hope they all get a good check a the vets and that it is nothing serious.
  3. It could be a food intolerance .. or something that doesn't respond to that particular antibiotic................
  4. Staghound ... 44 kgs of sooky gorgeousness.
  5. That is how I lost my Kieran .... he scoffed a small quantity meatyb!te dry bits ..stole them from another dog. That's all. Some time later I noticed him looking uncomfortable . Long story short .. it was too far and too hard to attempt a vet visit with such a poor outcome ..and after a few vet conversations, Kieran was sent over the bridge by me later on that evening...when it was pretty clear he had a torsion. never, ever again will I own a deep chested breed ..for 7. 5 years I waited for the day,... fed and watered and exercised in ways which were supposed to cut back on the risk...I will also never ever feed that sort of dry food again.
  6. My Mitchell once ran onto an oval and grabbed a cricket ball ...........which was in play ;) Kieran , on a couple of occasions took a lick at icecreams ..... being clutched in sticky toddler fists ...in pushers Kieran also once very gently took a lady's hand in his mouth as we were walking in a crowded mall ..he often used to walk with us in this way .... (he was a staghound - very tall!) The poor lady ..lucky she didn't freak out She thought it was very sweet .........
  7. thanks for that link (callicoma) I have finally found plain leather collars at a good price
  8. that seems a long way out of date .. I would phone them definitely!
  9. Not much help.. but I hope the poor old girl is OK .
  10. keep her behind VERY high fences and under lock & key. literally. If you walk her .. take her in a car to a beach or somewhere ..so dogs cannot follow a trail to your door. Some dogs (and bitches) will go to all sorts of lengths to mate ... make sure she is confined well when you aren't around.
  11. Unfortunately, a dog confined to a crate is completely dependent on its owner to make sure of a suitable temperature . Not bad in Winter .. coats/curling up , indoor heating.. but in Summer ..with not much option than to lie on soft thick bedding ..and not be able to seek out cool drafts, or cool tiles/concrete..or shift away when the spot in which they lie becomes warm... care needs to be taken to ensure they are comfy ;) It certainly can be done ..but takes some thought and a few changes...and a thermometer might be useful as well! Someone may have already invented them.. but those breathable bed covers would be wonderful, crate sized, and only raised a cm or so ..just to allow a draft and some heat transference in Summer.
  12. Awwww what a beautiful tribute to a special boy! R I P Rex.
  13. Oh poor Willow. So sorry, sWay and the owners...... at least though she has been found, and can be now laid to rest .
  14. best to get a vet to actually see it/poke it/biopsy it if needed That way you know definitely! Hope it's an easy fix
  15. I thought you would have - but it was all the idea I had I so hope she is located soon...
  16. It can and does cause problems .. we saw a few cases at the vets and the dogs were very poorly for a few days .It is a very concentrated form of protein ( nitrogen and phosphorous)..and some mixes contain a wetting agent.
  17. Is there any way to check if a great dane has been freighted anywhere?
  18. This is really hard- as I have never chosen a dog ! If I did though.. I perhaps would look for .. a non clingy dog a not too vocal dog a not too drivey dog a not enormous dog a dog put together nicely .. not excess skin/coat.
  19. Hopefully. What they may do is dig it all up, though. if your dogs eat it it may may make them ill...
