  1. Gold....could be bleaching /dead hair ..
  2. Hmmm.. what I would suggest is leaving her in a secure netted/colourbond enclosure when you are not there with her . also, IMO If the pup is to be an outdoor dog , it should be started off outdoors .. so that being put outside after having your company and indoor comfort isn't a big shock. I will leave the training to others who have experience of cane toads ...but it would be a very special dog who, left alone in a yard did not once try and play with a toad ...and once may be all it takes to make her very very ill.
  3. A big fully fenced property ..with all sorts of pools/sand dunes/trees
  4. because there are simply not enough homes for all the cats/dogs which are born.
  5. This afternoon, as I happened to walk past our concrete water tank.. I noticed a couple of flowers , a tangle of grass, and the texture of the concrete. Snapped a shot .. and spent a few minutes in Photoscape ....
  6. SK - Ham still has a (small) bowl of water with him at night , but hasn't touched it in ages now . He gets some dry during the day .. but I will not do it at night anymore
  7. I tend to agree. I also agree with the fostering two pups idea ASAP , while she is still fairly active and organised . That way she will get an idea of what two are like together
  8. Supermum! Twins may have to stay in hospital .... or need a bit extra care . two pups always need a lot of work ! teen large breed pups, humans suffering all sorts of sleep deprivation/stress/ worries , demands of new babies- two at a time , visitors... medical appointments .. Doesn't sound a good combination to me .
  9. I think whatever you put on there will encourage pup to lick more!
  10. As dancinbc's said a couple of minutes is good ..stop while he's being good, and NOT chewing I also tend to buy a cheap chain leash and use that for the first days ... they dislike chewing on the hard chain, so a habit never develops!
  11. All sounds fine to me .. of course there will still be some milk being produced .. but reducing her food , and getting her much more active will help bring her back from that state
  12. Glad all is well. My Hamlet .. who is def. NOT a pup..used to get dry of a night time. 2 or 3 times he peed in his sleep ..... LOTS .. and I was worried , but thought I'd try feeding raw as his bedtime snack . Now there's no big drink of a night, and a dry bed . The peeing in his sleep is still a concern, but as it hasn't happened again ... He does sleep heavily , poor boy .
  13. Apricot kernels, cherry pips, a lot of stone fruits contain a form of cyanide , apparently. The fruit is fine ..but the kernels /'nut' can be a problem. Our dogs love plums/apricots , but don't eat the stones, luckily ! Glad she's on the mend !
  14. So sorry . Run free and waggly, Gilly.
  15. ..Oh.. and I had a deerhound X for nearly 8 years, he was also a delicate little flower, if given the chance :p
  16. yep... I think now is a good time for HER to start deciding how much affection she gets in her day ! How? by you changing her way of behaving to N I L F (nothing In Life Is Free) She only gets praise/pats/love when she is behaving in a way which is appropriate. When she is playing nice..she gets love & games. When she sits/lies down ..gets told how beautiful she is When she comes when called , she gets cuddled When she toilets on command , she gets a mad minute of praise.. get the idea ?? Any other time ,she gets nothing .. no need to cuddle her/praise her for just being alive... but EVERY time she is behaving , then you must pay her a compliment . That way .. she learns very quickly that if she wants a pat, or nice words, or a cuddle or game ..she behaves in a certain way. That way ,SHE does decide how much affection/cuddling/praise she gets each day ... My dogs do not get choices . If it's wet, we still go out ... will she go for a walk on lead in the rain?make it fun .. play ball outside in the rain.. go for a long walk .. she really needs to get used to different weather conditions . She will learn, as mine have, that you do NOT come back indoors to the warm/dry until you have toileted .No negotiation will be entered into ;)
  17. Shae looks gorgeous! anyone else have young at heart dogs?
  18. thanks... I'm glad I caught him like that.
  19. he looks a lot younger than his almost-8 years :)not a`good' photo - but a happy one .
  20. yep ..I was 22 and renting , with a dog, and cats and a duck.... BUT I had had years of dog/animal ownership behind me. perhaps point her in the direction of an older rescue whippet or whippet X
  21. I always have capsules here ..never tried juice. I break open the capsules, and sprinkle bits in some wet food ..nice & easy, and even works for fussy cats!
  22. Maybe change something on them .. like putting a piece of carpet down? That way the texture would be a different one ..and maybe not trigger off her fear? What are the front steps made of ? is it different ? Will she follow you if she's on a leash? I'd practice going up them on leash ..so she can 'measure' them ..then try going down ...
  23. I'd try the cranberry ... and if it's still happening , then vet on Monday .
