  1. agreed. He's not made of meringue- he won't dissolve in a bit of rain- it's not cold, and leaving him indoors in a pen may well encourage more bad habits, like chewing/barking, as well as mucking up toilet training.
  2. SWF = Small White Fluffy dogs, no matter what the breeding. Bones with meat can be a meal, not just a toothbrush, and a nice soft bone like part of a chicken frame or a half turkey wing with meat etc on is a wonderful meal. oh, and you need not put *emoticon removed* in your writings ,we don't mind if you remove them!
  3. princess C- if you feel you could not provide adequately for the mental needs of a collie- IMO you should not even consider a poodle. Poodles are a very intelligent and active dog- great at things which involve thinking and 'working'. Unfortunately, so many people just see the fluff and frills- and fail to notice the sassy and smart canine brain within! As for grooming- no need for the fancy 'do'- just a 'puppy clip' for functionality. Easy
  4. Hi You may find some of your questions answered HERE and/or HERE.. this discussion is for a particular breed, tho. I would not do it
  5. There are treatments from the vet- she will NOT be doing it on purpose have a read of this OLD THREAD
  6. OK- I have asked the question HERE - see if we get any useful information
  7. Oh- and are you first- time owners, or have you had dogs before ( as adults) ?
  8. Living in the NT- you may want to avoid the short-nosed breeds, as they can have problems with breathing/staying cool in hot weather. Also - letting a dog run around the oval means that you will have to put in a lot of obedience training beforehand , and it is also a bit of a concern , with regard to other non- friendly dogs
  9. I was asking re: symptoms as I though a pup in your care actually HAD a problem Buscopan will reieve cramp/spasm... however, it will not kill virus/bacteria. It will not dissolve gas bubbles. It will not alter the acid balance, and it will not stop food allergies. That is what I meant by 'hiding' - yes, the pain may be gone, but the cause may still be present ...and getting worse without being noticed . It is a drug. Aspirin and atropine are both dangerous if used inncorrectly- both originated in plants. Cyanide has plant origins, too! Just because something is 'natural' doesn't mean it is safe.
  10. How can you tell if your pups have a stomach ache? What are the symptoms?Drugs like Buscopan are not to be used lightly- and they may take some pain away ,without helping treat the cause of the problem You may want to get information from your vet, who will have seen your pup/s previously, and will advise you on any suitable home treatment. They will also be able to tell you correct dosages for anything they suggest.
  11. I have no experience- phone a vet ,or emergency centre would be my suggestion.Hope your dog is OK.
  12. Dogs aren't rational- they act as dogs, not humans who can reason and think things through to a high level. An owner- who feeds and cares for a dog may not be the person the dog RESPECTS. Feeding a dog and having interaction with it is no immunity to being attacked. Having the dog respecting an owner is helpful....not FEARING, not avoiding, but respecting. Dogs in a pack, with no definitive human leadership, will challenge. Simple. It's what dogs do.
  13. GO! best of luck - yep they may well have been bitten killing the snake :D
  14. but I don't think they crunch the heads first? They go down pretty well intact- mouths closed...THEN get worked on in the gizzard. A dog may very well crunch the skull and open up the venom glands....
  15. Please phone a vet. if a tooth scratches the mouth etc, they could, in theory be envenomated :D better to be safe than sorry!
  16. Indeed . That is what dogs do- instinct can override everything we think they have been taught :D he is safe, you are safe, and know his limitations. The shaking will stop by tomorrow! :D PS: that was well written !
  17. FROGS OF QLD. You may find it here I don't think frogs are poisonous to dogs at all- only toads
