  1. Kieisha, how did you go at the vet's last night?
  2. Don't you hate it when they perk up at the vets? "fingers crossed for you"
  3. I believe all dogs 'should' be well mannered and be trained the same.....unfortunately it doesn't happen. Many owners of small dogs (A K A perpetual puppies) never bother with the training ,as it's convenient to carry/spoil and pick up dogs which are either showing aggression, or acting scared.
  4. kiesha, is your girl drinking? I too am thinking perhaps foreign body, but hopefully it is 'just' a bug of some sort.
  5. She should definitely be at the vets again!! tell them she is SICK.. show them her gums, and insist on them not just 'sending her home' without some extra tests .Listless, nauseous, since Saturday = a return visit.
  6. Could you put his food on a large tray.. so it is scattered, but not on the porch? Can pugs chew? (I know nothing about them)Could you just feed him large bones, like lamb shanks.. and make him chew his meals off it?It would take him ages, and use up some of that frenetic enrgy! Supplement with a small amount of soupy veg /kibble stuff.....
  7. luxating patella?? Hope all goes well at the vets
  8. and, note: oral meds may not work fast enough ,if the dog has a severe reaction
  9. I always have prednil in the fridge!
  10. *shakes head* Interesting concept... but I think a bit of a ploy Why not let the fish do their own 'tricks' amongst clumps of weeds(real), and rocks with holes in, and masses of bubbles from their aerator?? I love watching fish disappear into the weed 'forest' and 'hunt ' their food amongst rocks and logs...
  11. I can't think of anything you can do, sorry.... maybe someone else can help
  12. Good news! Glad to have an update- I hope YOU are your usual bouncy happy self as well
  13. stormie... Unless dogs were bright and clean and wide awake, we didn't send them home . On the page sent home with owners , it was explained that the dog may sleep a bit more, and that any discharge from wound, or unusual behaviour, excess swelling etc was cause for a (free) return visit.
  14. Puppies = poo searches Small, round and smooth usually cause not much problem.provided all appears normal, don't panic he probably eats lots of stuff you don't notice! :p Make sure he has little filled kongs/treatballs, and interesting bones to amuse him ...maybe make him a sandpit, and bury treats/toys in...take his attention away from pebbles !
  15. ANY positive/correct response wouil;d end the session, and we would go straight home for a bit of a health check, as previously mentioned. ..also a dissection of what YOU were/are feeling/thinking ...as a dog's behaviour can reflect this!
  16. For a simple castration, I have not heard of keeping them overnight . I would not be comfortable with leaving a dog in an unattended clinic overnight Where I used to work, the vet lived on site, so someone would always check any animal in 'hospital'....and we never kept any normal desexing, male or female in overnight
  17. Doesn't really sound like nightmares from that description......have you owned a dog before? They will often dream for quite long periods, vocalising, trembling, twitching...all very normal! I have known dogs with nightmares, and they really react! I would advise NOT waking her... this may interrupt an important part of the sleep cycle... If it disturbs you, then put her alongside your bed to sleep- that way she can be nearby, but not waking you as easily. if she is in a crate full of cuddly bedding, she is safe, and within arm's reach if needed! being a poodle X spaniel, make sure you get her used to having her floppy ears played with/checked/groomed every day, as well as the rest of her, naturally it makes for much more peaceful grooming later on!
  18. R I P Feral........ make em feel your presence over the bridge :hugs :
  19. did someone get it on film?? I know it's hard!
  20. I have been thinking on this........... and I figure that pups , from neonates up, learn by trial & error. Do the 'right' thing, and you get a reward..food/warmth/comfort/play/relief Do the 'wrong' thing, and you stay unrewarded, or even receive something unpleasant/painful. simple and balanced. (right & wrong are obviously a human concept )
  21. I wouldn't use one .. in case it got chewed .. there's a lot of grain in there! We are lucky having a slow combustion heater... on which I heat housebricks!! They are on there all day.. and are hot at bedtime. Wrapped well in a piece of woolen blanket, then put into a woollen terry type sock .. they stay warm pretty well all night- cannot leak, or be chewed much, and the pups/cats/piglets/baby birds love em!!
  22. Hamlet wears a muzzle when I'm worried he will scrounge stuff ... he has a plastic basket one . if YOU treat putting the muzzle on as an everyday occurrence, same as putting on the collar and lead- your dog will soon see it the same way. if you hesitate, and apologise...... she will feel that it is a bad thing . My brother has one working dog who needs to be muzzled around young sheep- he gets impatient he learnt VERY quickly that work came after he put his 'helmet' on- so now comes eagerly when we say " C'mon leo, put the helmet on"
