  1. I was thinking this morning just how many folks are buying PS and other editing programs.......and wondering just how much editing is actually done- why, and what sort ... I rarely do anything other than crop..maybe some colour work or background blurring sometimes. Of course I use programs to chnage the look of a pic- create textures, add in objects,do collages etc... but everyday photos.. my editing programs are going rusty have fun with this one
  2. regarding THIS thread.. is it now common for other people to handle young pups during classes? Whilst I accept that it is neccessary for show dogs to be sometimes handled by others.. I find this method leaves me with questions :)My interest has been sparked ! Can someone explain... I have NOTHING to do with showing... how do you get your dogs comfortable with professional handlers? I would have thought it to be awfully confusing for a pup in the early stages...and in a class situation.....and not really helpful to the owners. What is the expected outcome? Thank you
  3. I will just say that to expect a puppy to only toilet twice a day is a BIIIIG ASK
  4. Puppies can eat bones at any age :p whole chicken wings would be better than tips- they need to chew on bones ..not just crunch&swallow! I agree- with necks..just sort of 'flatten ' them a bit... but don't cut them smaller!
  5. I wouldn't worry unless he looks distressed, or is having toileting problems .. Our dogs do the same.. some bits of bone just won't pass thru the sphincter, or get digested enough.. so up they come :p
  6. paw paw cream can be found in supermarkets/chemists/outdoor /camping stores.... ETA. I have tried it- but the dogs found the stickiness annoying... plus when they lay down it collected dirt (no lawn/concrete here:P ) It is good stuff tho! :p
  7. Until her stitches are out and she is back to normal exercise etc... don't worry about giving her anything different She does NOT need an upset tummy while her body is healing :p if she always has soft/sloppy poo... you may need to change something in her diet. But not now. Let her recover from her operation first! What exactly is she fed, and how much? What brand of puppy food, what treats, what sort of mince? How often each day is she fed? what bones does she get? I would agree again that the vet sounds like one you do NOT talk to about dietary matters A dessertspoonful of allbran for a little pup is a lot of fibre!
  8. I have used it on flybitten ears, and it doesn't seem to sting... the dogs don't mind it at all... Obviously the best for this old boy would be to keep him out of the sun, and inside away from insects, but if that's not feasible... once his ears have healed a bit.. some good sunscreen with insect repellant in may be very useful .
  9. Giraffez- agree with cosmolo.. because of his protected puppyhood, your boy has not learnt doggy manners. You will need to be carefully taught how to socialise him... preferably with some one-on -one time
  10. All Bran, is fibre from wheat. if you feed this to your puppy, you will need to give her more liquid..otherwise , yes she will have LOT of bulky matter to try & squeeze out, and it may hurt This is NOT A GOOD IDEA just after surgery..straining could do damage hey... when the vets saw her..and she obviously went to the toilet..remember she had not had lots to eat the night before... or that morning... so there may not have been much to come out! If a dog is fed a diet with not a lot of cereal in it.. the droppings/poo will certainly be smaller and a bit harder. This is not really a bad thing... Also remember she is only a little dog. Ask the vet (or maybe not, if all they can suggest is allbran) and try adding a dessertspoon of mashed cooked pumpkin instead of the bran. My Dog Hamlet, one old cat, and some humans take PSYLLIUM husks (from health food shop or pharmacy) This , when soaked, forms a gel.. which is much kinder on the gut than bran...but increases bulk, and lubricates the gut as well... hamlet weighs about 24 kgs and only has not quitye a 1/2 a teaspoonful..soaked in water for a few minutes, then mixed in his food. sorry for the long post...
  11. Poor old boy depending on what other flea treatment chemicals he has in/on his system..I would recommend PERMOXIN..sprayed locally every few days !! Works amazingly well here..we have heaps of flies. CAUTION TOXIC TO CATS. If the wounds are infected/oozing..may I suggest a few days treatment of the dreaded purple/pink spray..CETRIGEN.....(before using the permoxin) used mostly for horses and farm animals... but containing antibacterial AND insect repelling ingredients Only trouble is the BRIGHT colour b
  12. but it doesn't mean he is the 'top dog', really I do all this for our working dogs..... but will they listen to me when working? NOOOO ! Their attention is all for their 'boss'..my brother.
  13. It is probably normal..., but often puppies get infections- localised ones. Male adult dogs do as well.. it is called balanitis. You can't hurt by gently bathing his sheath with warm salty water night & morning... this will clean it If it gets worse..by all means take him to the vet!!
  14. What breed do you have? they are normal in some breeds... and a fault in others, and totally nonexistent in most dogs, AFAIK
  15. he knows darn well who was in the bed! he is being a terror Get OH to do some of the exercises as well.. so The fluffy tyrant sees OH as a leader too!
  16. You are on the right track... any privileges, such as being on human furniture are to be worked for... and only taken when invited . he is now getting older, and making his presence felt . have a read here LINK and LINK
  17. toughen up on yourself!! first .You have to learn to see the world and what it offers thru your pup's nose/eyes/ears...and that can take some doing!
  18. Hi- feed him a nice big meal of canned P*L food ..get him to drink some extra water if you can... also- some mashed well cooked pumpkin may help hard droppings are not a bad thing at all....and there should be some effort required to get rid of them... but if they are tiny 'pebbles' he may need a bit more fluid...
  19. Glad you have him back! Hope everyone gets a good sleep tonight .
  20. I'm sure you can 'force' him to drink chicken broth or something if he needs extra fluid.. ...you are a good cook! If there's no one there, he''s better off at home, definitely!! If he does get sick- then you are there with him, and can take him to an emergency vet! he will be much happier with you ;)
  21. IF the clinic has staff present overnight, and it will be more reassuring for you to have him there- then by all means do it If there are no staff overnight..don't do it .
