  1. Corvus- did U end up choosing the feisty or the mellow Pup? I would be interested to know more of what his living conditions were like early on- was he with his Mum/siblings til you got him? perhaps he was never properly disciplined by his mum... so now he doesn't know to trust that it's 'just' discipline, and that he's 'supposed' to submit ? I second what nekhbet said, and agree with poodlefan that some things need examining.. Is the pup acting/reacting from fear, or is he bloody minded? BIG difference in handling for them, as you know...
  2. So Sorry that you are getting lots of bad news . You will know more after the tests- and then you can work on what you need to do ...and that includes dealing with your husband. Do you have anything surplus you could sell to help you raise your own funds? That way it would be 'your' money..and may make you feel better ... *fingers crossed the test results aren't as bad as expected *
  3. Not a bad idea for occasional kong stuffing
  4. Hi- I would suggest the FIRST thing to accomplish is to get them used to having independent time.. feed them each a bone/kong.. but in different areas/rooms/crates..out of sight of each other . do this often.. so they get the idea that being alone can be a good thing...then, you can have one out walking/training while the other enjoys his treat calmly and alone... This will take more than a week or two to accomplish, tho Totally ignore any tantrums or noise, or refusal to eat treats.. just do it all again next time...and clean up any leftovers thoroughly!!
  5. Did your breeder have any suggestions? If you tell us the area- someone will know of a good place to start him off in puppy pre-school or such Don't forget- you can begin teaching him at home! Teach him to accept his collar/leash...walk him gently around the house/yard so when he DOES go out, he is comfortable- teach him to sit for his meals- teach him to not jump up... may I strongly recommend you read the three "pinned' topics on THIS page ... lots of useful info! Also..just to get in early- you may find THIS useful! Have a read HERE, as well .
  6. Hi- no idea really- but with a foot which is twisted-- could she be compensating for an injury somewhere else? using her foot this way to take the weight off something..or take MORE weight??
  7. Is there anything happening around about? Weed spraying/building next door...have you cleaned carpets..does he have access to drinking shower/toilet water after you clean? Has he had any ointment/drug/spot on applied that you can remember? Was his food the same? Did anyone give him something different/fatty as a treat?
  8. I agree totally. With our pups- they may try it when several weeks old- they are stopped and corrected quickly and effectively- usually only takes a couple of corrections/redirects. Gosh- if a nursing bitch taught HER pups to at first bite , then bite softer, then mouth, then stop.......... she would be nibbled raw She tells them off loudly and with enough "oomph" to make them stop & think..... and they just don't do it again. They have respect...they learn quickly!
  9. it sounds as if he is having a bad attack of nausea for some reason... I wouldn't be giving the soda ,unless you know he has eaten something nasty.... You could try ginger tablets.. or even better.. a couple of drops of the ESSENTIAL oil smeared on his fur around his chest/neck..so he can get the benefit of the scent...Rescue remedy also may help. Maybe keep a diary of when and where and all that- it could be something he is treated with, or eats, or something else entirely..poor boy. Of course he won't stop.. he is feeling wretched, and his instincts tell him to eat grass/herbs... . Nausea is a horrible ,horrible feeling,as you know...and while humans can understand that it will pass..and what is happening- dogs can't..and just feel awful What puggypuggy said is interesting,too..and worth thinking about. Hopefully it won't happen again for a long time
  10. Hi- In our household- there is NO teeth on humans at all. puppies are 'gruffed' at,and moved aside (usually by the scruff) if they try it....bearing in mind most of ours are born here- so we can train them from the word 'go' here-have a read http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/puppybiting.htmI don't believe that a well timed and carefully carried out physical correction..like a quick scruff grab ,will automatically cause an escalation.with our pups, I have never found it to do so.A scruff grab or nose tap or other procedure carried out without the skill/knowledge needed may well do so!Any correction, or for that matter, reward, must be timed to perfection to be effective!!
  11. If you choose to use Bonnie- try the working dog one! More fat & protein...
  12. Better news, indeed- hopefully he will be feeling MUCH happier soon .
  13. A LOT of stuff won't show on Xray but the little barium balls will give an indication of exactly where the problem is , thank goodness! Things like material/some plastics/leaves,etc/cork... often will not show on xray ..but can have devastating results. Some years ago ,Hamlet ate leaves/sticks, and had to have surgery.. it all went well- he was in hospital for several days, had a longish convalescence, and has been fine !!All the best for your boy !
  14. feed her cheap cuts of meat..on the bone fatty brisket, lamb flaps, chicken frames..or half chickens, etc. roo is not designed to help a dog gain weight..it is very low fat meat. sirloin steak, and human grade chicken mince are also not going to provide her a lot of nutrition, really... She is a beauty!
  15. I don't see a problem with it...except that thighs usually have a lot of fat! Once this removed, it should be a good meal
  16. That doesn't sound good ,. poor dog What does your vet say? How about you phone the manufacturer, and discuss it with them as well? They may have some ideas for you,and I guess they need to know this sort of thing, so they can adapt their product . I have had occasion to phone that particular manufacturer on a couple of occasions, and their vets have been extremely helpful
  17. I am not a photographer's shadow... am a 'heart', not a 'head', snatcher of life's imagery;get totally confused with all the manual controls ..and much prefer the basic point & shoot stuff these days .. but, when I am 'in the mood'.. images appear A subject with which I 'click'..be it a dog ,or a mushroom, or even a shadow... usually makes for a better shot... I guess because there is a story or a feeling or a 'look' that I am trying to capture and share with others ;) Photography to me is seeing the world up close & personal.. and hoping to convey what I feel to the viewer. Some of my favourite shots are those serendipitous ones Where I literally look around and go "ooh! Gotta grab this moment!" Like THIS where, a minute later, the sun had withdrawn, I had shifted position, and the beauty was gone ... or THIS.....
  18. I think you would be better served buying a compact camera from a recognised camera 'name' have a look here LINK 1 LINK 2 LINK 3 LINK 4 and LINK 5 just to get you started! Don't be fooled by heaps of megapixels, and digital zoom!! I use an ols sony cybershot.. a small one ..and a fuji finepix...no DSLR..and definitely no 12 megapixels my pics more of my pics not as good quality as a DSLR.. but good enough for me Optical zoom is what you get when you 'zoom' the lens. Digital zoom is kinda like zooming in on the already taken picture.... not very clear, and not a true 'zoom'
  19. What methods are you using to toilet train the pup? It hopefully wont take too long :p Puppy may well be cold- laundries can be very cold and isolating spots..and boring Lots of bedding..maybe a chew toy and something warm
